Date #1 with Destiny

I opened my eyes to see a brunet with an umbrella standing next to me. His big blue eyes stared at me, or possibly my crazy-humid hair.

I honestly couldn't tell.

He was wearing a navy jacket over a plain white t-shirt and some jeans. His jawline was sharp and could probably cut me at will if it wanted to. Not that I was staring at his face for a whole entire minute because that would've been really awkward.

"Um, excuse me?" I asked him, confused. He sat down next to me on the bench and stared at the empty space in front of us.

"You were saying how fate was finally being nice to you, but it could've been that destiny had the courtesy to ask you out." He remarked as if he had made actual sense. Giving him a weird look, I turned away.

"But aren't fate and destiny basically the same thing?" I asked him rhetorically. The mysterious man shrugged in response.

Now that he was sitting down next to me, it was much easier to see his facial features. Stubble painted his chin lightly, and he had small crinkles by his eyes. They might've been from laughing, they might've not. His lips were a bright pink color, complimenting the rest of his face quite nicely. His brown hair fell to his eyes, almost touching his eyelashes, but it suited him well.

"I can feel you staring at me." The man turned to me slightly so that his blue eyes made contact with my boring brown ones. I immediately looked down at my hands that were just sitting idly on my lap.

"Oh, sorry about that." I muttered to him, hoping that he heard me. He seemed to acknowledge my apology and returned to his stone cold face.

After looking at his beautiful side profile for a few good seconds, I decided to admire the rain.

Admire the rain? Who the hell does that?

Water has always been my comfort zone. When I was younger, I basically lived at the beach (ok... vacations twice a year were still awesome), but as I grew older, I realized that rain was even better. Now as I watched the rain, it was calming, especially with this extremely handsome male sitting beside me.

"So did he cheat on you?" He asked me, all of a sudden.

"What?" I asked partially confused and partially kind of offended.

"Let me guess, he took you on a date because it was your two year anniversary, so you got all dressed up for him, hence the dress and the heels. But he actually just called you there because he was starting to get tired of your womanly bullshit so he dumped you." He summed up.

Honestly I shouldn't have been surprised that he thought that; look at me. But just the thought of such a ridiculous and crazy idea made me laugh.

"That's not what happened at all." I tried to say within laughs, but he probably didn't catch it. He furrowed his eyebrows at me and looked at me in an odd manner.

"Well, there go my psychic abilities." He joked.

Ok, if there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I laugh at anything that could be even remotely funny. If you tell me a really corny joke, I will laugh at it. If you fart or burp when you are trying to be serious, I will probably laugh at it but silently judge you for being disgusting. Definitely judge you.

Anyways, back to the not-so-mysterious man.

"My name is Ezekiel, by the way." He said, sticking out his hand for me to shake. I shook it eagerly, with a smile plastered onto my face.

"I'm Destiny." I answered back. His eyes widened for what seemed like a millisecond, then returned to his strong gaze.

"Destiny." My name seemed to roll off the tip of his tongue.

"That's a beautiful name." He complimented. A light blush painted my cheeks as I giggled. Geez, Destiny, what is up with you today, acting all bipolar? I guess men just make me have this effect.

"So, Destiny," Ezekiel put the emphasis on my name as he spoke, "What are you doing at Jefferson park at 9:30 on a Wednesday evening in the pouring rain?"

And with that single question I ended up telling a complete stranger about my terrible date with Daniel Hackensack. He listened really thoroughly, which I appreciated greatly. At the end of my story he remained speechless.

"Ezekiel, are you still there?" I asked, trying to get him out of his unfazed phase.

"And you just let him talk to you like that?" He asked in an astounded way. I gaped at the man sitting next to me. I honestly astonished me that a complete stranger would listen to my problems, and leave comments at that!

"I guess I kind of did fight back." I admitted to the both of us.

"Kind of fought back?" He repeated with a chuckle.

"Well, from what you just told me, it sounds like you whooped this guy's ass, if you asked me." He turned to me with a smirk. Our shoulders were almost touching at this point, and if I had leaned over just a tiny bit, I would've been able to easily kiss him on the cheek.

Turns out I'm just a big scaredy cat and will never have a romantic life with anyone except for my refrigerator. Even though that's always been just a one-sided relationship anyway. But seriously, even though it sounds absolutely bonkers, I was wanting- no, craving -more from this guy.

"Ezekiel..." I had started to say when my phone started buzzing and playing a familiar ringtone. "La cucaracha" song was also known as the best friend emergency ringtone. I picked it up immediately.

"Hello?" I asked cautiously into the speaker.

"Destiny Marie Collins, don't scare me like that again or I will take your esophagus and shove it down your throat!" A familiar and not-so-friendly voice rang out. I was about to remind Margo that my esophagus WAS my throat but quickly decided against it because I knew she would do it if she could.

"Now where the hell are you?" She questioned, making me roll my eyes.

"Jefferson park." I responded. I looked over to apologize to Ezekiel that my best friend was hogging up my spare time, but was met with an empty umbrella instead. Looking around alertly, I almost lost my conversation with Margo, as one-sided as it seemed I could never hang up on her.

"Hurry up and get me." I groaned through the cellphone. A car engine was heard to the far right.

"Way ahead of you, sister." The car window rolled down to reveal Margo. I picked up the umbrella to see a small paper underneath it with some numbers.

'Would this be considered my first date with Destiny? xxx-xxxx' it read.

I got in the car as a light blush came onto my cheeks.

"You must tell me everything." My best friend squealed from the driver's seat.

Some blind date, indeed.
