Chapter 2: The Truth

Ricki POV.

I ran to mommy's room. She was sitting at her desk writing on some paper. I walked up to her.

"Mommy, there is something wrong with Alice." I told her, concern filling my voice. She looked at me.

"What's wrong with her?" she asked.

"She is very weak and has a fever." I explained. She stood from her desk, grabbed her medical kit and rushed out of the room. I followed her.

Alice looked worse than before. She was shivering badly, sweat ran down her face. Her cheeks were cherry red.

"Ricki, get someone to help me carry Alice downstairs to the medical section of the lab." Mommy told me. I nodded and ran toward the nearest person. I found Richard, one of our strong guards, not to far from Alice's room.

"Richard, mommy needs your help." I told him.

"What does she need?" he asked.

"She needs your help to move Alice downstairs." I explained.

"Alright." he replied. I led him to her room. Mommy looked worried. I know why too. Alice is like a daughter to my parents and a sister to me.

"Ah, Richard. Please carry Alice to the medical ward." she asked him. he nodded and walked over to Alice. He picked her up bridal style and left the room.

"Mommy, what's wrong with Alice?" I asked. She shook her head.

"I won't know until I do some tests." she said. I looked at Alice's bed. She was perfectly fine before daddy called for me. What happened to her?

Alice POV.

I heard aunt Danielle's voice. She told Ricki something, but I can't quite make out her words. After a bit I heard the door open again. Aunt Danielle told Richard to carry me somewhere, but I couldn't hear where. I was lifted off my bed and was carried down stairs. I couldn't hold onto consciousness and I blacked out.

I was woken by a loud siren. People were yelling "find her!", but who were they looking for. I looked to my right and saw aunt Danielle taking a blood sample from my arm. She looked at me then smiled. I still couldn't talk.

"Don't worry Alice. I'll find out what's wrong." she assured me. I forced a smile. I already know why I feel this way. I just can't tell them. I stared up at the ceiling, dizziness sweeping over me. Blackness forming around the edges of my vision. I fall into a deep sleep.

Danielle POV.

Alice's condition is...worsening. I have no idea what this disease could be or if it is a disease. I noticed her eyes have changed. They were more like Maya's. This can't be good. I walked out of her room and went to check on her blood sample. I walked up to the computer in the DNA analysis room. Nothing was wrong in her blood? Maybe I should do a brain scan.

I began walking back to Alice's room. Her eyes are telling me that something happened with Maya. Maybe when those two were left alone. I opened the door and walked in. I grabbed the brain scanner from the wall and walked over to my niece. She was sound asleep. I began the scan.

Once the scan was complete, I compared it to Maya's. They were exactly the same.

"Oh no..." I whispered. I ran out of the room. I stopped when I saw Ricki. She looked at me with concern.

"What's wrong mommy? Does it have anything to do with Alice?" she asked. I looked toward the ground and nodded. I walked over to her and put my hand on her shoulder. I showed her the scan.

"Do you know what this means?" I asked her. She nodded and tears fell down her cheeks.

Alice POV.

I woke up to fluorescent light shining down on me. I tried to move my right hand up to block the light, but my arms were strapped down. My legs and torso was also strapped down. What's going on here? I felt something covering my mouth. Why was I being muzzled? I heard a door click open. I turned my head to the right the most I could. Uncle William walked over to me.

"You must be very scared. I'm sorry, but we had to restrain you." he sighed. He looked me in the eyes. "I have some questions for you. Please answer truthfully." He asked. I nodded.

"Do you know what spacequakes are?" I nodded. Come on...I live in Tenguu city. We have so many spacequakes. "Do you know the reason why they happen?" I shook my head. He sighed again.

"Spacequakes are caused by Spirits. Do you know what a spirit is?" I again shook my head. "Spirits are beings from another dimension. They cause these quakes when they come to our world." he explained.

"Now tell me...were you ever alone with Maya?" I nodded. "Did she give you a stone?" The stone, I almost forgot about it. I nodded to his question. He looked pained. He turned and walked out of the room. He came back in with Ricki and aunt Danielle. Ricki and Danielle had tears in their eyes. Why were they crying?

"Alice...you are no longer a human." Uncle William started. Then what am I? "You are now a spirit. The stone that Maya gave you turned you into a spirit. I'm sorry, but since she escaped...we will have to keep you here so we can find a way to turn you back into a human." he said as he walked out of the room.

What?! I'm now a spirit because of a tiny stone. That should be impossible. I looked back up toward the lights. Tears formed in my eyes. I sighlently cried the rest of the day.

The next day a man came into my room. He carried a bundle of twenty or more needles filled with green liquid. My eyes grew in fear. They were going to poke me with all those needles at once! I struggled against the restraints, but I still couldn't get away. The needles were pushed into my upper right arm. I cringed as the pain started and raced up my arm. I didn't want to scream. Another man brought in another set of needles and repeated the stabbing on my upper left arm. I was relieved when they left.
