Taking deep breaths in, Donghyuck spotted the specific booth that his friends were talking about yesterday. He could then feel his heart beating fast and hearing it beating loudly upon seeing who's entertaining the crowd.
The short moment of admiration was then cut off when Donghyuck saw how long the line was. However, he felt a glint of hope when he saw other people in the line leaving looking disappointed.
Did they have a criteria in order to rent a boyfriend there?
Stopping his tracks, Donghyuck faced the window from a clothing boutique. He saw a glimpse of himself and his get-up for the special occasion. He didn't look like he was trying too hard to impress a certain someone, but he was satisfied with how he looked. It was enough for his lips to curve up a smile.
"Donghyuck, what material?" He began talking to himself, twirling around and feeling the comfortability of his outfit. "Boyfriend material!"
It was only then he felt embarrassed when people passing by started to give him looks.
Donghyuck immediately lowered his head down and begged for the floor to eat him right away. "What am I doing with life?"
However, he took a last glance and appreciated his look for the day. Sweatshirt and baggy jeans. It might be simple and basic, but Donghyuck found it comfortable.
"Johnny, me!"
"Choose me!"
"No, pick me!"
The commotion by the booth took Donghyuck's attention once more, making him snap his head towards its direction. He panicked at how almost everyone was circling around it. Most specifically, they were gathering around Johnny who looked like he was already having second thoughts about setting up a dating booth.
Donghyuck thought that people were starting to fight as to who will have Johnny as their date. "They can't have him!"
With a quick pace, Donghyuck ran towards the booth and squeezed himself in between the people. He got a lot of complaints coming from the people surrounding him, but he could care less about them cursing him out. He had a goal and that was to get in front and be the one to rent the one and only Johnny Suh as his boyfriend for the day.
"Woah!"
Breathing heavily, Donghyuck had both his hands on his knees to catch some air. He managed to push himself in between the crowd and finally got in front of the one hosting the booth. Donghyuck caught the attention of those who were managing the booth as he stumbled forward and almost tripped himself.
Lucky for him, Johnny was fast enough to catch him and help him get in balance. Lucky for him indeed. Donghyuck could see the signs that the heavens above had given him.
"Are you okay?" Johnny asked, concern visible in the tone of his voice. "I'm sorry but we only have one boyfriend available—"
"I'll take the last one!" Donghyuck shouted, catching everyone off guard.
He was so busy in the situation that he couldn't feel a pair of eyes staring at him with full interest.
Turning back to his friends and getting a signal from them, Johnny gave the student a smile. "But we have a standard. The last boyfriend is kind of picky on who he wants to date."
"I am qualified!" Insisting, Donghyuck wasn't backing down, not when he's competing with a lot of people. "I... I am quite affectionate! We can hold hands and I will compliment you every single second. I'm also competitive so if you want us to play that shooting booth over there, I can get you the teddy bear! And I... I am funny!"
Oh, he's funny for sure.
Because a person standing alongside the people managing the booth was laughing a little bit too hard by how determined this guy is.
Or should Mark call him desperate?
"Well, I think we have someone qualified for the last boyfriend!" Johnny exclaimed for the people gathering around to hear. "Mark Lee, what do you think?"
That familiar name caused Donghyuck to have a frown on his face. He then had his eyes settled on the guy stepping forward and now standing right beside the host for the booth.
"You?!" Donghyuck pointed a finger at him, surprised that he's part of the people managing this booth. Looks like he won't be moving on from embarrassment anytime soon.
"Hmm..." Tapping his chin and acting like he was pondering with his thoughts, Mark observed him from top to bottom before coming to a decision. "I'm not quite sure if someone who had ruined a date is qualified for this. For all I know, he might ruin his own date."
Actually, fuck it. Donghyuck will handle him later. For now, he needed to have a chance with Johnny. "I promise, I won't ruin my own date! I will enjoy it, even. I will make the most of it. In fact, I'm confident that once you get to experience how to be loved by me, you will be asking for more than four hours."
That got Mark to raise a brow, not thinking it was a serious deal for this guy. Maybe he was right, maybe he is desperate.
"Sold!"
Mark just watched the male in front of him having that big bright smile plastered on his face, jumping in joy, as Johnny finally closed the bidding for the last boyfriend. He was confused as to why Donghyuck looked so happy to be chosen.
By any chance, does Donghyuck secretly like him?
"Is that why you spilled the lemon juice on my pants and made it look like I peed?" Mark can't help but ask. "Did you ruin my date on purpose... because you like me?"
That stopped Donghyuck from celebrating. "What?"
Who said anything about Donghyuck liking this snob over here? The incident that they had made him hide from Mark in every chance he gets. As much as he wanted to apologize for his mistake, Donghyuck couldn't help but feel intimidated since Mark always looked like he's in a bad mood. This was why he ended up hiding instead.
What made him more guilty was knowing that Mark and his date didn't get to work out. Donghyuck blamed himself for that.
Donghyuck wondered, in what situation did Mark think that he had feelings for him?
However he failed to ask the guy about it since someone else came up to him and passed him a clipboard with a paper to sign. Seemingly the rules and regulations of their booth.
"For formalities, we need you to sign here and here." One of them had said, giving him his gummy smile as he had the softest voice that Donghyuck had heard. "We want Mark to come back safe and sound."
"Jungwoo, you're overdoing it." Mark stated, still having his eyes on the male in front of him that is now frozen in his place.
"Mark?" Donghyuck called his name again in a questioning manner.
"Yeah?" The said male tucked both his hands inside his pockets as he waited for what the other had to say.
"Wait... I rented you as my boyfriend?" Slowly having it processed inside his head, Donghyuck repeated once more. "You as my boyfriend?!"
Drinking his water and joining the host of their booth resting and sitting on the chair, Doyoung tapped his shoulder to get his attention away from his phone. Probably texting someone.
"Tell Yuta to leave Sicheng alone. The poor dude just wants to go back to his class." Johnny said, putting his phone inside his pocket and asking his friend to get another bottle of water.
Doyoung did so and passed the bottle to him. "Did you know that Mark holds a grudge towards that kid?"
"Nope, but there's this feeling that's telling me that Mark is interested in him." Drinking his water as well, Johnny took time to manage his breathing cycle. He was tired as hell from managing the booth. "I guess I'm right since he can't take his eyes off him."
"Yeah, but I feel bad for that kid." Doyoung told him. "I think he was expecting that you're the last boyfriend that's being rented out."
"Me?" With a chuckle, Johnny pointed a finger at himself. "But I'm already taken. I'd have my kneecaps bitten if I gave myself out to anyone."
Heaving out a sigh, Doyoung couldn't agree more even if that seemed exaggerated. "He looks like he's regretting right now."
Looking at the two standing there and arguing, Johnny had a mischievous grin on his face. "Trust me, he'll enjoy being with Mark."
"Hey! Here, he signed the papers."
With Jungwoo arriving and joining them, Johnny stood up from his seat with a great plan in mind.
"Come on, let's follow them." Johnny said, dragging the couple with him.
