6. A Promise

You know it's love when forever is not long enough

(Taara's Pov)

The music shifted, a slow, romantic melody filling the air. Arjun's hand slipped away from my waist, a playful glint in his eyes before he twirled me towards a new partner.

As he disappeared into the throng of dancers, a whiff of cedarwood tickled my nose. The scent, so familiar yet elusive, sent a jolt through me.That Nasha. My hands reached out, instinctively seeking a connection.

They landed on a firm chest, the fabric of his suit pressed smooth against my fingertips.I lifted my gaze, determination reflecting in my eyes.

The dim, swirling lights of the ballroom offered little in the way of clarity, but then, like a cruel twist of fate, a rogue beam from the chandelier speared through the darkness, illuminating his face for a fleeting moment.

That moment was enough. My heart hammered in my chest, a wave of emotions swirling within me.

Blush crept up my cheeks in a mixture of recognition and shock.

We'd gotten lost in the slow song, him leading with surprising confidence. His hand on my back felt warm and secure, and I didn't want the music to end.

In that same instant, my heel snagged on something, sending me tumbling towards the ground. But before I could kiss the floor, strong arms wrapped around my waist, holding me securely.

I looked up, meeting those eyes again. Those Nain. The harsh light had softened somewhat, allowing me a clearer glimpse. This time, the light glinted off something in his eyes - a flicker of amusement.

"Are you alright, Miss Raichand?" His voice, rich and smooth as melted chocolate, sent shivers down my spine.

The playfulness in his eyes deepened, turning them into sparkling pools of honey brown.

"I... I think so," I stammered, cheeks burning hotter with every passing second. My traitorous heart hammered against my ribs, a tangled mess of confusion and a strange sense of familiarity.

Then I saw Arjun walking towards me.He loosened his arms, carefully guiding me to my feet.

A jolt of surprise ran through me as a final whisper brushed my ear, "See you soon, Miss Raichand." The words sent shivers down my spine, their husky intimacy drowning out the music and the worried chatter around me.

I opened my mouth to reply, but a white-hot pain shot up my ankle, stealing my breath and focus. I winced, biting my lip as a wave of nausea washed over me.

And then, he disappeared into the crowd of dancing figures."Looks like you twisted your ankle," Arjun said, his voice tinged with concern as he steered me towards a nearby chair. "Sit here i will bring you ice".

The rest of the evening dragged by in a haze of pain and unease. As Arjun helped me out of the ballroom, I stole one last glance around, searching for a glimpse of the masked figure.

But he was gone, vanished like a dream the moment I woke up. Yet, the memory of his voice, the scent of cedarwood, and the unsettling promise - "See you soon, Miss Raichand" - lingered, a dark cloud foreshadowing the unknown events to come.(Wada)

(NEXT DAY)

(Author's Pov)

Dawn light streamed through the white curtains, etching the night's memories onto Taara's tangled sheets. The vivid images from the previous night lingered in her mind as she rose.

A quick trip to the bathroom prepped her for the day.Descending the grand staircase, the aroma of coffee filled the air. The dining hall buzzed with chatter and clinking silverware.

Her parents, concern laced with amusement, greeted her."Good morning, sleepyhead," her dad, Rishi, teased. "Took you long enough."

Taara returned the energy, a grin splitting her face as she slid into the seat beside her brother. Their usual playful banter filled the air, a mix of teasing jabs and inside jokes that only they understood.

But Rishi cleared his throat, silencing their laughter with a single sound."Beta," he said to Taara, his voice taking on a serious tone.

"Last night at the party, I had a long conversation with Mr. Rajvansh , Remember their daughter, Ananya, you met her, right? Well, they also have a son, Kabir. I hear he's quite successful - joined his father's business and even started his own companies!"

Taara's brow furrowed in confusion. Why was her father talking about the Rajvanshs ?

Rishi continued, "We both families think you and Kabir would be a great match."

"But Papa," Taara protested, "I'm just 22!"

"You're graduating in three months, Taara," her mother interjected, her voice laced with understanding.

"We're not pressuring you to get married right away. Just meet Kabir and get to know him.

Besides," she added with a knowing smile, "I was 22 when your father and I met, and it turned out alright. Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to wonderful surprises. Just give it a chance, beta."

Taara hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. "Alright," she finally conceded, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll give it a try."

Warm smiles bloomed on her parent's faces. Her mother enveloped her in a hug, whispering reassurances. Rishi reached out and patted her shoulder gently.

"You won't regret this, Taara," he said confidently. The weight of the conversation settled on Taara's shoulders as she excused herself from the table and retreated to her room.

Pulling out her phone, she quickly typed a message: "EMERGENCY! Need to talk ASAP!" and hit send to her best friend, Riya.(A few moments later)The phone buzzed on her nightstand. It was Riya calling.

Taara swiped to answer, relief washing over her as she heard her friend's familiar voice.

"Taara! What's wrong? Your text scared the living daylights out of me!" Riya exclaimed.

Taara couldn't help but smile a little at Riya's dramatics. "Okay, okay, maybe not an actual emergency," she admitted.

"But there's definitely some serious girl talk required. My parents just hit me with a surprise at breakfast. They want me to get to know this guy, Kabir, son of Mr. Raivansh from the party last night. Remember them?"

Riya's face lit up with excitement as she exclaimed, "Kabir, like Kabir Rajvansh! The Kabir Rajvansh!"

Taara, trying to place the name, nodded hesitantly, "Yeah?"

But Riya couldn't hold back her enthusiasm. "He's not just any Kabir, Taara. He's the ultimate hottie bachelor, The Kabir Rajvansh!"

This piqued Taara's curiosity, and she leaned in closer.

Riya continued eagerly, "He's also a highly successful businessman. You know what's intriguing? Despite his fame and fortune, there's not a single scandal involving him and any lady. He's practically a mystery when it comes to his love life!".

Riya kept browsing the internet. "there isn't even a clear picture of his face anywhere, only shots from behind!"

Taara absorbed this newfound information about the elusive Kabir Rajvansh, lost in contemplation.

Riya urged earnestly, "Taara, you really should consider giving him a chance..." Her words trailed off as Taara's thoughts raced.
