As soon as it was light out Luke his protocol droid C3PO and I set out to find his friend the little blue R2 unit.

We picked something up on the raidar and soon found the wandering droid. "Catherine do me a favor stay with the speeder. I think I might have found my little friend dead ahead." Luke's hunch was right only a few meters away he found R2." Hay little guy where do you think your going?"

R2 reponded with a few beeps and C3Po replied irritatedly  "master Luke is our master now. We will have no more of the Obi-Wan Kenobi business! Don't talk to me about your mission either! Your lucky he doesn't blast you into a million peices!" C3Po replied turning to Luke.

"No it's all right, but I think we'd better go." Suddenly R2 started making frantic beeping sounds. "What's wrong with him now?"

"There are several creatures approaching from the north east." C3PO replied looking around.

"Sand people or worse." Luke replied grabbing his gun and binoculars. "There are a few banthas but I don't see any no wait yes they are sand people all right I can see one of them now." Just as Luke said this a raider jumped us knocking C3PO backwards.

The raider attempted to hit us with its Bantha stick and eventually knocked the two of us out. R2 beeped worriedly as he watched the Sand people drag Luke forward and drop us on the ground.

Then they proceeded to come towards Luke's land speeder and so I ducked for cover to no prevail. I was grabbed from the speeder and knocked unconscious and might have been killed had it not been for a loud animal noise.

Whatever the loud noise was it startled the sand people sending them running for the hills. R2 watched as a strange hooded figure approached Luke and checked his pulse. R2 beeped a quiet worried sound and the strange old Man looked up. "Hello. Come here my little friend. Don't be afraid." R2 beeped and the old man replied "oh don't worry they will be alright." With that he helped Luke up "rest easy son you've had a long day. Your fortunate to be in one piece."

Luke looked up dazed and replied "Ben? Ben Kenobi? Boy am I glad to see you."

"The Gundlend waste are not to be traveled lightly. Tell me young Luke what brings you out this far?" Ben asked as they sat upon a nearby rock.

"This little droid. I think he's searching for his former master but I've never seen such devotion in a droid before." Luke replied looking over at R2. Then looking back at Ben replied "ahh, he claims to be the property of an Obi-Wan Kenobi. Is he a relative of yours do you know who he's talking about?"

Ben sat down on a rock near Luke and pondered this for a moment before replying slowly "Obi-wan Kenobi, Obi Wan Kenobi? now that's not a name I've not heard in a long time. In a long time." Ben replied.

Luke looked up at Ben and replied "I think my Uncle knows him. He said he was dead."

"Oh he's not dead not yet." Ben replied.

"Oh then you know him?" Luke asked.

"Well of course I know him. He's me." Ben replied pointing towards himself. "I haven't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since oh, before you were born."

"Oh? Well then the droid does belong to you." Luke replied pointing towards R2.

"I don't seem to remember ever owning a droid. Very interesting." Suddenly Ben heard the sound of sand people and replied hurriedly "I think we should be getting in doors. The sand people are easily startled but they will soon be back and in greater numbers." Ben replied.

R2 began to beep and Luke suddenly remembered C3Po and I. "3PO, Catherine..."

"Catherine? Who's Catherine?" Ben asked.

"She's a new friend of mine. I left her with the speeder. We'd best go check on her and 3Po." It didn't take Luke long to find us. Ben helped me up as Luke picked up 3Po's arm which had been torn off and walked over to him.

"Ohh. I must have taken a wrong step." 3PO groaned.

"Do you think you can move? We've got to
Get out of here before the sand people come
back." Luke asked as he helped 3PO up.

"Oh I don't think so Master Luke. Don't risk your life on my account. I'm done for just leave me here." 3Po replied.

"No your not what kind of talk is that?" Luke replied as Ben and Luke helped him up out of the dirt. Soon all of us were safe inside Ben's home and Ben was telling Luke about his father. "He was a great Jedi knight he fought for the republic during its time of crisis."

"My father didn't fight in the war. He was a navigator on a spice freighter." Luke replied as he fixed up 3Po's arm.

"That's what your Uncle told you. He didn't approve of your father's ideals. He felt that he should have stayed here and not gotten involved." Ben replied thoughtfully.

"I wish I knew him." Luke replied sadly.

"He was the best star fighter in the galaxy
and a cunning warrior. I understand you've become quite the pilot yourself." Ben said causing Luke to smile. Ben sighed " and he was a good friend. Which reminds me I have something for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-wan on some foolish crusade like your father did." Ben replied going to an old chest and pulling out a strange item.

"What is it?" Luke asked as Obi-Wan handed it too him.

"Your father's lightsaber. It's the weapon of a Jedi knight. It's not as clumsy or random as a blaster. It is an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights where the keepers of peace and justice in the old republic before the dark times before the empire." As Ben talked Luke waved the blade around in his hands. Luke closed the resheethed the lightsaber and sat down next to Ben.

"How did my father die?"

Ben's face became clouded "A young Jedi by the name of Darth Vader who was a pupil of mine before he turned to evil helped the empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct. Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force."

"The force?" Luke asked confused.

"The force?" I asked becoming more interested in the story at the mention of Darth Vader. "Could it be the very Darth Vader I had met years ago?" I wondered silently.

"The force is what gives the Jedi its power. It's an energy force created by all living things it surrounds us penetrates us and binds the galaxy together." Luke nods in understanding and goes back to working on 3Po who has shut down for a little while. "Now let's see if we can't figure out what you are." Ben said approaching R2.
