Catherine faces the dark side of the force challenge.
"I don't understand. What is he talking about? Is it true? Did my father murder Luke's father? Am I really just like my father? Will I too become a murderer someday?" Catherine asked turning towards Yoda with a look of confusion.
Yoda sighed "Time it is for you to face your first challenge." Yoda replied not answering her questions.
"Why are we here? I already know I must watch my anger or suffer Catherine's father's fate. What more could I possibly learn from this area of the Forrest?" Luke asked.
"Inside the Forrest Catherine must now go." Yoda replied.
"What will I find in there?" Catherine asked not sure she wanted to know the answers.
"Only what you bring with you." Catherine nodded and tightened her belt that held her blaster. "Your weapon, you will not need it."
"In my experience you never know when a blaster might come in handy. I've learned I should never leave home without it." Catherine replied.
Yoda nodded. "Understand your reasoning I do. In you must now go." Catherine nodded and walked into the strange forest area that was surrounded by the dark side of force. Surprisingly Catherine felt quite at home in this section of the planet.
"Master Yoda can I ask you something? Why are you training her? I'm sure the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Luke retorted.
"To this conclusion what brings you?"
Yoda asked in both curiosity and semi amusement.
"I heard you over telling Catherine that she was a lot like her father, that she was a lot like Obi Wan's apprentice who turned to the dark side." Luke replied. "Ben told me that his apprentice murdered my father." Luke replied.
At first Yoda did not reply. Then giving a sigh replied "troublesome this attitude of yours."
"But Master Yoda, Catherine's father is responsible for my not having a family. You said yourself that she's just like him. I don't understand why you would bother trying to help her." Luke replied.
Yoda shook his head in disappointment. "Sense jealousy in you I do. Concern me this does. More alike then you care to admit you and Catherine are. Jealous I sense you are of her abilities. Anger, fear, aggression, jealousy the dark side of the force are they. Be wary of them you must or consume you they will as they did Obi Wan's apprentice."
"Jealous? I'm not jealous." Luke replied with a slight frown.
"Fool me you cannot, sensed it I have. Jealous you have been since Catherine removed her ship from the lake." Yoda replied.
Uncomfortable where this conversation was heading Luke decided to try and change the subject. "Master Yoda, what did you mean we are more alike then I know? What aren't you telling me?" Luke asked.
"Rest, rest, rest is what I need. Nothing more will we discuss today, upset you this conversation does. Yes, rest is what I need." Yoda replied walking back towards his hut.
"Master Yoda I need to know." Luke said questioningly.
"Hurting the same you are. Hurting from the loss of Ben are you, hurting from the your words is she. Her place in this galaxy she is searching for. The truth about her origins, friends and family she desires. Help her this challenge shall." Yoda replied.
Meanwhile, back in the cave Catherine was suddenly feeling extremely tired. Looking around she found herself in what seemed to be a burial chamber. Most would have been creeped out by this but it didn't faze Catherine. She was tired and needed rest and so she lay down upon the giant slab and soon was fast asleep. Dreams flooded her sleep, dreams of her discussions with Yoda, dreams of Lord Vader bust mostly dreams of Dalekan Cruix and the pain he had put her through and the pain he might put him through tomorrow. As she was dreaming, the memory of a Sith long since forgotten stirred. Suddenly Catherine's sleep was interrupted by a loud voice and she found herself being jolted awake. "Why do you enter my tomb Jedi?" the voice demanded.
Catherine looked up to see a fiery figure rising out of the tomb in front of her. "I seek knowledge concerning the dark side of the force. Master Yoda said I'd find my answers here." Catherine replied truthfully.
"Why would a Jedi seek knowledge from the Sith? What is it you hope to obtain here?" The fiery figure of Sith Lord, Bane asked.
"Why should I tell you? Just who are you anyway?" Catherine asked with a hint irritation.
The Spirit of Sith Lord Bane crossed his arms, "you aren't afraid of me are you?"
"No. Should I be?" Catherine asked innocently.
The Spirit of Sith Lord Bane chuckled "I like your style kid. If you are willing to endure whatever I have in store for you I will provide you the answers you seek. Will you accept my challenge?" The Spirit of Lord Bane asked.
"Why should I participate in a challenge I know nothing about? A challenge that you have not explained to me the rules or consequences of participating in, plus, you still haven't told me who you are. How can I trust that you'll keep your word? Or that this challenge won't kill me?" Catherine replied.
The Spirit of Lord Bane just smiled "let's put it this way, what choice do you have? You will participate in my challenge wether you want to or not." The Spirit of Lord Bane replied with a chuckle. "By the end of my challenge you shall have the answers you seek." With that the Spirit of Sith Lord Bane disappeared.
Catherine looked around but the strange spirit had disappeared. What had he meant she was going to participate in his challenge wether she wanted to or not? Just who did this strange spirit think he was?
"Your challenge has begun." Came the booming voice of the Spirit of Sith Lord Bane.
Meanwhile back at camp Luke started to become worried about Catherine. She had been gone for quite some time. "Master Yoda, shouldn't we go after Catherine? She's been gone for quite some time."
"No. Face this challenge alone she must." Yoda replied.
"But Master Yoda why can't I see if she's ok???"
Yoda shook his head. "No,no,no there is no why. Interfere me must not, alone must she face her fears. Just as you had to face your challenge alone." Yoda replied.
"I still don't understand, however, if you say she must do this alone I'll take your word for it." Luke replied with a sigh.
Back at the cave Catherine's challenge had just begun. As she explored the cave she came face to face with Demon. "Well, well, well, if it isn't little Catherine?"
"What do you want Demon?"
"It's time you come home like a good little girl. It's time you stop all this foolishness and playing bounty Hunter, and return to your master."
"I am a bounty hunter and an assassin, you know that. After all, I was trained by the very best." Catherine replied.
Demon scoffed "oh yeah? And who precisely is that might I ask?" He said with a sneer. "It certainly wasn't me."
"Obviously, believe me,your no match for my mentor. You wouldn't last five minutes in a battle with him."
"No bounty hunter in their right mind would train you. You're delusional and it's time you faced the truth you're a slave and that's all you'll ever be." Demon replied irritated.
"Oh, I was trained as a bounty hunter and my mentor is very real. He's the best bounty hunter to have ever existed, you'll never be as good as he is, no matter how hard you try .Catherine replied with a smirk.
"There is no bounty hunter in existence that fits that description. There's no one dead or alive that can beat me." Demon replied.
"I beg to differ, my mentor is your rival at everything. It seems to me that you are forgetting about the one bounty hunter who always beats you."
"Oh yeah and who is that exactly?" Demon replied with a slight growl.
"Boba Fett. He's twice the bounty hunter you'll ever be everyone who anyone knows that." Catherine replied. This statement caused Demon to growl, he and Boba had never gotten along. In fact, they hated each other.
"Enough of this foolishness! I am your Master and I demand you return to my ship bus instant and forget all this nonsense about being a bounty hunter!" Demon growled.
"You are not my master! I have no master, I earned my freedom and the title of Boba's daughter! What are you doing here anyway? It can't be because you want me back. You never cared about me so what's the real reason your here?" Catherine demanded.
"I don't care that Boba has raised you as his daughter. He had no authority to give you your freedom and neither did Jabba. You were merely on loan to them. They never owned you. You are still my slave and as long as I'm living I'll continue to use you in whatever way suits my purpose. You are mine, you always have been mine and you always will be mine. Nothing and no one will ever change that. You'll never be free unless I choose to give you your freedom and that'll never happen. As for why I'm here, I'm here, to collect the bounty Jabba placed on your head." Demon Cruix said with a sick smile.
Catherine growled at this comment and glared at Demon. "What bounty? Why would he put a bounty on my head? It's not like ran away, I earned my freedom." Catherine replied.
"I hate be the barer of bad news but Jabba changed his mind. He wants you back and whoever returns you to him will be greatly rewarded. I intend on collecting that reward." Demon replied.
"I'm not going back, I am never going back to being his slave or anyone else's. You stay away from me or I'll kill you Demon." Catherine said reaching for her blaster.
Demon smiled "right, because you're such a great assassin. I doubt that, or I'd already be dead. You're too sentimental, there is no way you could shoot the man once called daddy." His smile growing wider until it was more a smirk then a smile.
"You don't know me as well as you think you do. I'm not that weak minded innocent child that you remember. I have grown up and the time we spent together when I was a child means nothing to me. You mean nothing to me. I'm one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy, even better then you. You can't stand that revelation so you insist I'm still your slave."
"Quit whining, one way or another you are returning with me to Jabba. I will collect the bounty he placed on your head no matter what I have to do to do it." Demon said.
"You wouldn't dare shoot me, Jabba would kill you." Catherine replied.
"I said I was going to do anything it took and I meant it." Demon said and with that he shot at Catherine with his blaster.
Catherine dodged the blaster shot and replied sarcastically, "I thought you said I was valuable property. Wouldn't injuring me cost you money?" Catherine replied rolling her eyes.
"So, you admit that you're my property." Demon said with a smile.
"I was being sarcastic you idiot. It's time you started treating me with the respect I deserve and have earned."
"Respect? What have you done to earn my respect?" Demon asked.
"I am dangerous bounty hunter and I think it's time you started treating me like one. I'm your peer not your slave." Catherine warned.
"You a dangerous bounty hunter?" Demon said the amusement showing in his eyes and in his voice as he tried his hardest to contain his laughter. "Your no bounty hunter, your just a dumb kid with a wild imagination, who doesn't understand the concept of business." Demon replied.
Catherine frowned just a dumb kid? She was not a dumb kid, Demon had said this to her so many times in her youth that she had started to believe it. That was, until Boba had shown her the truth through a Winnie the Pooh quote. He had made her promise him that she'd never look down on herself ever again. After all, she was his daughter and no daughter of his was going to have a low self-esteem. It was time Demon learned she wasn't that weak child who cowered at his sight any longer. Catherine glared at Demon and as she did a large rock started to shift and crack. Soon a huge bolder was bearing down upon Demon. Catherine watched and realized that she had two choices, she could allow the rock to kill him or she could save his life. Sighing she aimed her blaster and shot at the rock nicking Demon's leg.
Demon smiled "As I was saying, you a bounty hunter? Don't make me laugh. You can't even shoot a blaster right."
"I wasn't aiming at you I was aiming at the rock that nearly fell on you." Catherine replied defensively.
"Right, sure you were kid, sure you were. You couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn. You expect me to believe that you're some great bounty hunter?" He said with a laugh. Then becoming serious once more and scowling he said. "You're a slave and that's all you'll ever be now get on my ship or you'll suffer the consequences!"
"Never!" Catherine screamed and aiming her blaster she shot at Demon hitting him in the shoulder.
Demon winced and looking down he realized he was bleeding. "You shot me? You ungrateful brat! You'd be dead if it wasn't for me! If I hadn't bribed the Ranchor trainer into feeding the beast the day you quote on quote earned your freedom you'd have been Ranchor food. Demon said making quotation marks in the air with his hands. "Just you wait girl! You are going to regret defying me! When I'm done with you, you are going to be begging me for mercy. One way or another you're going to except that I'm your Master and return with me to Jabba's palace." Demon said with a growl making his way towards Catherine.
"I am tired of living in fear of you. Those days are over! With that Catherine aimed her blaster directly at Damon and shot his blaster right out of his hand. "And I'd say I'm a pretty good shot wouldn't you?" Demon grumbled in response. "What was that Damon? I didn't hear you? Shall I prove it again by shooting somewhere else?" With that she raised her blaster once more this time aiming at Demon's heart.
"You can't do this it's against the bounty hunters creed. Plus, its bad form shooting an unarmed target. What do you want? You want me to admit that you're a bounty hunter, fine I admit it. You want me to apologize for how I treated you when you were younger? Fine, I'm sorry, I never should have used you to pay my debts. The truth is, I just want is to be a family again. Is that so wrong?" Demon replied.
Catherine sighed and found herself unable to pull the trigger. The voice of Yoda ringing in her head. "Sweet revenge is not, If kill this bounty hunter you do darken your heart forever it will."
"I should kill you for all the evil you have done to me. However, no matter what you've done, no matter how evil you are, no matter how much you deserve to die, I don't have the right to condemn you nor do I have the right to serve as your executioner. Your right that would be bad form especially since you are defenseless. Just remember, I chose to spare your life. You told me that all I am is a slave but I chose to spare you. Maybe this is all a trick to confused me so much that I forget who and what I am. So that I'd willingly become your slave again. However, you should keep this in mind, I let you live, I could have killed you but l let you live. I've finally broken your hold over me." Catherine said lowering her blaster. "I think you did love me in your own weird way. In fact, I think deep down inside you still do otherwise you wouldn't keep coming back for me and insisting that I belong to you."
"You're out of your mind. I may have said your valuable but that doesn't mean I love you. How could anyone love a pathetic slave like you? You are weak and you always will be. You should have killed me when you had the chance. You'll always be my slave. As long as I'm alive I will always have control over your life." Demon replied.
"I don't care how much you deny it, I know the truth you do care about me, more than your willing to admit and that's ok. I don't need you to admit it in fact, I don't care if you ever do. It no longer matters to me." With that Catherine turned and walked away leaving Demon standing their dumbfounded.
Catherine smile, she had at last come to realize the truth behind Demon's insistence that she belonged to him. As Catherine glanced back Demon faded away and an angry growl erupted from the cavern. "You have failed the test. If you were truly drawn to the dark side you wouldn't have hesitated to kill your worst enemy." Came Sith Lord Bane's voice.
"That's not what I came here to do. I came seeking the truth and I have found what I came here to seek. As for failing your challenge how precisely did I fail?" Catherine replied.
This caused the spirit of Sith Lord Bane laughed. "Truth is in the eyes of the beholder. Many truths that you mortals cling to is based solely on a person's point of view. You failed because you were unwilling to do what was necessary to obtain your freedom. You have the makings of a great Sith however, your innocent heart holds you back. If you truly want to be like your father you will embrace the dark side and forget the silly inclination of love and compassion."
Catherine closed her eyes and focused her thoughts and gave a deep sigh. Then she looked directly at the Spirit of Sith Lord. "Just how do you know my father?"
"I know many things, your father is strong with the dark side of the force. He could have been truly powerful Sith if it hadn't been for the Jedi and their incessant desire to destroy us." Sith Lord Bane replied.
"What are you talking about? Master Yoda said my father was a Jedi. That he could have been one of the greatest Jedi ever but he." Catherine paused what, was it Yoda had said he had done? Catherine struggled to remember.
Sith Lord Bane smiled. "But he what?" He asked already knowing the answer.
"Master Yoda said he chose the easy path. It couldn't be, it's not possible." Catherine looked up at Sith Lord Bane in confusion. "Is it?"
"Is what?" The Spirit of Lord Bane asked.
"Tell me I'm wrong, tell me my conclusion is incorrect, tell me that my father isn't evil, tell me that the Jedi didn't murder my father just because he chose a different path then theirs."
Sith Lord Bane chuckled. "I cannot, for your conclusion is correct. Your father denounced the ways of the Jedi because of all the evil he saw them doing and in turn they attempted to kill him. However, evil is in the eyes of the beholder in your father's eyes the Jedi were corrupt and that meant that they were evil. In the Jedi's mind anyone who didn't conform to their way of training in the force was evil and needed to be wiped from existence. However, they did not succeed. Your father and his master are alive and well." Sith Lord Bane replied.
"Why did Yoda send me in here if he knew I'd find this out? What was it he hoped that I'd learn from all of this? Why even agree to train me? What is the point? "Catherine asked puzzled.
"I cannot tell you why Yoda sent you in here. I can however, tell you it wasn't for your benefit. He never intended for, you to realize that your father is a Sith Lord. He doesn't care about you, he only cares about restoring a dying race and destroying the Sith forever." The spirit of Sith Lord Bane replied.
"You lie. Yoda does care about me and he wants to help me discover the truth about my family, the truth about myself."
"Me, lie? Never. The truth is far too much fun. You have discovered the truth, you are a descendent of a great Sith Lord." the Spirit of Sith Lord Bane replied.
"If what you're saying is true, can I ever hope to defeat the darkness that lies within me? How could I ever become a Jedi?" Catherine replied falling to her knees.
"You can't. The dark side of the force is a part of you and it always will be. Learn the ways of the Sith, join Darth Vader by his side, become the Sith you are meant to be, forget about being a Jedi. Yoda is the last of a dying race the Sith always have been and always will be the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Yoda knows this to be true and fears this which is why he was training you. He hopes that you or the boy will destroy the Sith forever and return the Jedi to power he does." The sprit of Sith Lord Bane replied.
"I though you said I wasn't Sith material?" Catherine questioned.
"I never said you weren't Sith material, I said you have the heart of a Jedi. However, there are the signs that a true Sith Lord lies buried deep inside of you. Yoda will never allow you to become a true Jedi. He will always hold you back from your true potential just like he did your father. He knows that the dark side of the force is strong with you. Watch, you will see, He will refuse to finish your training. If you truly want to learn the ways of the force becoming a Sith is the only way."
"I don't believe you, the Sith are murderers and liars and I want no part of them. We are done here!" With that Catherine rushed out of the cave and back to the camp.
"Don't say I didn't warn you." The sprit of Sith Lord Bane replied.
"You were in there for a long time are you ok?" Luke asked when Catherine returned to Yoda's hut.
"I'm fine, my time in the cave has given me more questions then answers. I must talk to Master Yoda."
"He returned to his hut to get some rest. What kind of questions has your time in the cave left you with perhaps I can answer them." Luke replied.
"I need to know what Master Yoda really feels concerning me. Am I truly Jedi material or does he fear I am too much like my father? I need to know if he will continue to train me knowing how close I am to the dark side of the force."
"Much like your father are you, conquer your fear and anger you must before I can continue your training." Yoda replied open hearing Catherine's question.
"Then perhaps it is time I leave." Catherine replied frustratedly.
"Leave? Why?" Luke said confused. "Master Yoda what did you say to her? Why does she want to leave?"
Yoda sighed and shook his head as he watched her fly away. "Realized the truth of her heritage she has. Much anger I sense in her. Continue her training I can not. Gone forever, I fear Catherine's Jedi side soon will be." Yoda said sighing once more.
"Then I'll go after her. I'll stop her, I'll bring her back." Luke replied.
Yoda sighed and shook his head. "Alone this choice she must make. Interfere we cannot."
"But Master Yoda, we must stop her, we can't let her loose herself. Why can't I just..." Luke asked but Yoda held up his hand to silence him.
"There is no why. Catherine alone must decide which path to take. Interfere, you must not." Yoda replied. "No more training will we do today tired am I. Rest, rest is what I need." Yoda replied walking back into his hut leaving Luke completely confused.
