chapter twelve

"YOᑌ'ᖇE ᔕOᗰEOᑎE ᔕᑭEᑕIᗩᒪ TO ᗰE."

"Huh? A sleepover?" Ochako echoed, looking up at Momo questioningly from her desk. The black haired student nodded, a bright smile on her face.

"I'm inviting everyone in the class. At my house tonight, starting at 5 in the evening."

"Isn't the entire class at one house a little... overwhelming?" Ochako nervously chuckled. "I mean... we're crazy students.."

"Trust me," Mina had brought her chair over and butted in, grinning. "I've been to Momo's house before for studying, and man. Forget mansion, that was a castle!"

Ochako's eyes sparkled at she turned back towards Momo. "Really? A castle?"

The student scratched the back of her neck, blushing slightly. "It's not that big, but it's large enough for our class..."

"So? Are you going, are you going?" Mina asked, latching into Uraraka's arm while bouncing up and down excitedly.

"Well..." the brunette glanced up at the ceiling. "I guess if everyone's going to be there, I guess I'll go.."

"Yes!" Ashido cheered, turning to the rest of the girls. "We must prepare for the possibility of our ship sailing!"

The rest of the girls nodded in agreement, and Uraraka lifted a brow. "What ship? What are you talking about..." she trailed off, not needing to see the smug look on their faces for her to realize what they meant.

"Huh!? Wait, wait, wait!" Ochako glared at Mina. "What do you mean 'prepare'? What do you guys plan on doing?"

Ashido slung her arm around Ochako's shoulders, smirking devilishly. "Ever heard of a game called truth or dare? Spin the bottle? Seven minutes in heaven-..."

Ochako pushed her away, but that didn't stop her face from starting to steam. The girls didn't know if it was a blush, embarrassment, or actual rage. Knowing the brunette, it could be all of them.

"Momo!" Uravity turned towards her friend. "You won't actually let them do this to me, right?"

Although Ochako expected the class vice president to be mature about it, Momo looked as though she was trying to hold back laughter. "Oh, I don't know.." she said. "Depends on what the rest of the class wants to do.."

Uraraka groaned, letting her head fall onto her desk. She was starting to doubt whether or not she should go in the first place, especially considering who they wanted her to interact with most of the night. Izuku frick fracking Midoriya.

It had only been two days since he tried to kiss her, and both acted normal when seeing each other in the halls or in the classroom, with the usual awkward moments here and there. But mentally Uraraka was just positively dying inside. It felt like her entire stomach flip flopped every time she saw him, and her heart could almost jump out of her chest at the rate it went whenever he glanced her way.

She already knew she liked him, but this was a new kind of feeling... and she didn't know what to do with it. It made her want to do and say only the right things around him, which made her feel stiff. Am I trying to impress him or something?

When school ended, Ochako walked home alone. It was a bad idea, she was sure of that, with everything that had happened the past couple of weeks. But she didn't feel as though she could face Deku. It was too much on her heart, even if she didn't know why.

She did, however, know she was going to see him that night. Walking home alone was only inducing anxiety. Not just because of the fact she could be jumped at any moment, but because it was building up the awkwardness she would feel when interacting with him at the sleepover.

Ochako slapped herself, huffing as this was only now coming to mind. Why can't I just act normal? I've been doing good so far, and may have to do it for the rest of my life...

She sighed irritably, not even noticing she was walking up the steps to her front door. Well, whatever. I just have to survive tonight and then everything will go back to normal.

"Okay, mom. I'm going!" Midoriya called out, quickly slipping on his shoes and rushing to the door.

"Do you have everything?" Inko called out from the kitchen. "Toothbrush? Pajamas? All that stuff?"

"Yep!" Midoriya responded, opening the door. "I'll see you tomorrow, mom. Love you."

"Love you too, sweetheart," Inko poked her head from around the corner, smiling at him.

Once outside, Deku pulled out his phone to look at the address Momo had sent to the class group chat. He headed that way, and after a while he started to feel a little lonely.

He had planned to ask Uraraka if they wanted to head to Momo's house together, but she never showed up at the end of the school day for their usual walk home. He could've done a surprise pick up, but ever since the little incident, he couldn't help but overthink his actions when around her.

Deku didn't know what came over him then. A little spurt of confidence was shockingly enough to make him try to kiss somebody. Who knew that was all it took. And yet, after that day... he started to question how he acted around her.

He'd never done that before. It was something he loved about their relationship, how casual they could be with each other. Now, mentally slapping himself, he felt like he messed that all up.

After about fifteen minutes of walking, he came upon Momo's house, and as he looked at it he wondered if it was even a house.

"Man!" An arm slung around his shoulders, and Deku looked up to Kirishima looking up at the house in awe, with Kaminari and Sero behind him. "I've been here before for studying, but I never get over it."

"Who could?" Kaminari questioned, staring at mansion with wide eyes. "This place is sick!"

"'Sick'?" A voice cut in, and the boys glanced over to see the group of girls coming up to them. Mina was the one who spoke. "I prefer to call it gorgeous."

As the two groups came together, Midoriya made eye contact with Uraraka. She smiled and waved, in which he returned the gesture, though he couldn't help but feel the small interaction was awkward for the both of them.

"What are you all standing out here for?" Momo's voice cut in, and everyone turned to see her coming from the front steps. "Come on inside, everyone else is already here."

As the students filed in, marveling at how incredibly big the house was, Midoriya and Uraraka ended up next to each other when inside the house. They both turned to say something, only to be dragged away by their groups to go set up the boys and girls rooms.

Deku looked over his shoulder, a little disappointed he hadn't been able to speak with her right then and there. But he would get other chances to speak, they had the entire night after all.

And so it begins.

First thing the group did after setting up the rooms was little battle skirmishes. There was still daylight, and most of the kids were still energetic and wanted to train.

Out on the large field behind Momo's house, they split into twos to start skirmishing.

Deku paired with Iida, since Uraraka was already walking over to Mina. He frowned, but didn't think anything of it, until the movie watching came up.

The class gathered around in the living room to watch a new movie that had come out, mingling on the floor or on the couches in front of the big TV screen.

Midoriya headed towards Uraraka, planning to ask if she wanted to sit together. But upon spotting him, she whirled around, speeding towards Ashido and the Asui. Midoriya stood there for a second, a sudden and lonely thought occurring.

Is she ignoring me?

—————————————

Are you ignoring him? Uraraka thought to herself, settling down beside her two friends. No... I wouldn't do that.

But even as she said it to herself, Uraraka knew that for some reason she couldn't face Deku. Earlier she had planned on this being a normal, casual night between them. However, she had been deliberately avoiding him. Why?

She glanced over at Deku, who had settled down next to Kaminari and Ojiro. She tried to look away, but nothing could stop her from noticing his dejected expression.

Darn... she silently cursed to herself, turning her attention back to the screen. What's wrong with me today?

"Hey, hey," someone whispered in Ochako's ear, and she turned over to Mina. The pink skinned girl was smirking.

"Any action between you and Midoriya yet?"

"Huh?" Ochako blinked, before staring down at the ground. "No..."

"Wow, wait," Mina sat up straight. "No come-back? No pushing me away? No changing the subject?" She leaned into the brunette. "What's wrong, girl?"

"You haven't noticed?" Tsuyu cut in. "She and Midoriya haven't spoken yet at all."

"Really?" Ashido's eyes widened.

"It's not that important..." Ochako mumbled, pulling her knees up to her chest.

"Of course it's important!" Ashido whisper yelled. "My ship is supposed be to be sailing valiantly, not sinking!"

Ochako glared over at her friend. "Nothing's gonna happen between us, Mina. We're best friends, it isn't like that." Even as she said it, there a sinking feeling in her chest.

Ashido shook her head, leaning back with her arms crossed tightly. "I won't let Izuocha die that easily!" She pouted.

"Just don't do anything stupid," Ochako muttered. But oh boy, was Mina about to do something stupid.

When the movie ended, Ashido instantly stood up, and Ochako instantly regretted living at the same time.

"Okay, guys!" The alien-like teenager yelled, grabbing everyone's attention. "Let's do something fun, we still have time before lights out."

The other girls were already grinning, and the guys had confused looks on their faces.

"Such as?" Kaminari asked.

"A game," Mina replied, smugly looking down at Uraraka. Meanwhile, the zero-gravity user was silently pleading for nothing embarrassing to happen.

"What sort of game?" Mineta had a pervy look on his face. "Does it involve-..."

He was wrapped up by Sero's tape, suddenly being silenced. Sero sighed, "Go on."

"Seven minutes in heaven," Ashido said bluntly.

Some classmates choked on air, while others looked genuinely interested. Ochako buried her face in her hands, visibly shriveling up.

Nononononono...

"Sounds fun," Kirishima said, looking at the others. "What do you guys think?"

NONONONONO...

Everyone nodded in agreement, and Ochako groaned. There was no way around it now. She glanced over at Deku, though he looked confused. Hopefully I don't get him..

"Rules are simple," Mina said. "A spinning bottle picks two people to go into a room together for seven minutes. You can do anything you want during those seven minutes. Talk, joke around... maybe even a little kiss," Mina added, darting her eyes over Uraraka.

Ochako stuck her tongue out. She looked over at Deku again, and he seemed to get the game now. He looked as anxious as she was.

"Okay, everyone get in a circle!" Mina ordered.

"I'll get the bottle," Momo said, rushing to the kitchen before returning with a full beer bottle.

Everyone sat down, watching at the bottle spun. The first two were Asui and Momo, and they came out of the room laughing and joking after the seven minutes.

Next was Bakugo and Kaminari, in which they exited the room with the blond chasing after the electricity user, tiny explosions bursting from his hand.

The third time around, Ochako was horrified to see it slowly land on her. Okay, well, that doesn't mean...

It landed on Midoriya.

OKAY, YOU KNOW WHAT? NOT EVEN SURPRISED ANYMORE, she thought anxiously as she got up and followed Midoriya awkwardly into the room, sending a glare the giggling girls' way.

After the door closed, the first few seconds were awkward as the two looked anywhere but each other. It was a cramped room, causing them to only stand a few inches apart, but that didn't stop them from feeling like the other was a mile away.

Deku coughed after a minute, breaking the tense silence. "So, uhh.." he finally looked down at her. Uraraka was a little shorter, and she seemed to just notice this as she glanced up at him.

"How are you? It feels like forever since we've last talked..."

"We talked in the morning," Ochako pointed out, in which Deku jumped a little.

"Oh. R-right..."

"And I'm doing fine," she said. That was not completely true. Other than the mini crisis she was having about the boy standing next to her, she was still fearful of the possibility of being kidnapped.

Deku was silent, leading to them staring at each other for moments on end. "You, uhm.." he said, averting his gaze. "You seem to be avoiding me tonight... is something going on?"

He noticed, she thought with panic rising in her, but after a second she just sighed.

"Just... remember you can talk to me about anything. Best friends, right?"

What he had said over a week ago now crossed her mind, and she looked down at the ground.

"Can I... talk to you?"

"Of course," Midoriya said almost instantly, stepping a little closer. "Anything."

She met his eyes gratefully, before taking in a deep breath. "So, about what happened on Wednesday..."

Uraraka could see him stiffen, but he didn't say anything and instead nodded for her to continue.

"Ever since then, I've felt really awkward around you..." She panicked when she saw him flinch. "No, no, it's not you yourself. It's me. Now I'm always trying to say or do the right thing in front of you and it's starting to get exhausting. It feels rehearsed, stiff. Like I'm not an actual person talking to you, and I hate it. And I know it's only been two days but..." she bit her lip, before exhaling heavily. "I just want things to go back to normal."

Deku was silent, and she was scared he was going to be hurt. However, when she looked up at him, he was smiling slightly.

"Can I tell you something as well?" He asked softly.

Eyes wide, Ochako nodded slowly.

"I feel the exact same way." Uraraka's heart stopped as he started to explain. "Ever since Wednesday, I've been feeling really anxious around you, like I have to act a certain way. I've never felt like that before. And as our conversations became shorter and stiffer, I couldn't help but feel like it was my fault. I guess it was..."

Uraraka was really surprised to hear all of this coming from Deku, and she instantly cut in when he started to blame himself.

"No, it wasn't," Ochako shook her head. "Neither of us are at fault, Deku. We were both in the moment, and now we can go back to how it was since we've shared our feelings. Isn't that we both want that?"

Midoriya stared at her, biting his lip after a couple seconds. "Yeah..."

Ochako nodded, before holding out a fist. "Best friends, right?"

Midoriya's eyes widened as he looked down at the fist, seemingly surprised she was using the gesture that he had used before. He nodded as well, bumping her fist with his own. "Right."
