chapter one
"YOᑌ'ᖇE ᗩᒪᗯᗩYᔕ ᔕO ᑕᕼEEᖇᖴᑌᒪ."
Ochako loved to read. Not something you would expect from her, right? It's true, though. Stories and novels were something that allowed her to escape reality. Her favorite genres were pretty generic. Fantasy, adventure, mystery...
Romance.
Her favorite genre. Yeah, sure, she always shut Aoyama down when he teased her about Deku, but that didn't mean she couldn't be a hopeless romantic at home. She sat in her pink twin sized bed, a lamp on the table beside her providing light.
She was reading Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, getting deeply invested with the words. So invested, in fact, she didn't realize it was two o'clock. In the morning. On a school night. She only realized when she yawned, getting distracted from her book. She peeked over at the clock on the table...
"Holy sHI-.." she refrained from actually yelling, and instead a whisper shout escaped her lips. She physically and mentally slapped herself, annoyed at the fact this was the seventh time she'd done it within the school year so far. There were only two pages left in the chapter, and she figured she might as well read to the end of it.
Now it was three in the morning.
She cursed, a little louder than anticipated, but luckily her parents didn't wake up. Finally, at three thirty AM, she put the book down and turned off the light, turning onto her side.
As she was trying to sleep, the brunette felt all warm and fuzzy inside. She had just been reading a romance novel, thought she felt it was something else as well. She shrugged it off, and sleep finally came-
"OCHAKO URARAKA!"
The U.A. student startled awake at her mother's voice, groaning inside. She had JUST closed her eyes. Ochako blinked at the morning sunlight filtering in through her white curtain, lighting up the room. Content, she waited a few moments, before pulling the blankets off of her body and swinging her feet off of the bed.
She stood, stretched, and quickly got for ready for the day.
Walking down the stairs, she greeted her mother, who simply handed her a plate of buttered toast. "Goodness, Ochako. If I had to keep calling you, you would've been late for school."
"Sorry, mom." Uraraka's voice was muffled as she bit into the toast. Once she was finished, she quickly waved goodbye, and headed out the door.
Upon arriving at U.A.'s entrance, she stared in awe at the school. Though it had been more than half a year since she started there, the grace of the school never ceased to amaze her.
She was about to step forward when a familiar voice raised behind her.
"Uraraka!"
She stopped, butterflies flying in her stomach as she turned to see a green haired teen running towards her, a smile on his face. A warm feeling filled her chest as he caught up to her. Oh. That was that warm fuzzy feeling she felt before falling asleep.
Izuku Midoriya, otherwise known as Deku. The boy she had been crushing on for who knows how long. They had a best friend relationship, and she didn't allow her feelings to get in the way of that friendship and make it awkward... but, still. Her heart lifted whenever she saw him, and she couldn't decide whether she liked it or not.
"Hey, Deku," Ochako smiled, and they walked side by side into the school. "Mr. Aizawa said he had something planned for us today, what do you think it is?"
"Hmmm.." Izuku put on a thinking face. "It may be another one of his tests, or a project. Who knows what that guy is thinking."
Uravity laughed. "Right! He's so unpredictable."
They made it to class 1-A, where all the chaos of their day usually started. As soon as they entered, there was a small explosion and Denki Kaminari practically flew across the room. He landed at the duos feet, and looked up to spot them.
"Oh, hey guys!" He said casually, like he hadn't just gotten an explosion to the face. "Bakugo is throwing one of his tantrums again."
"TANTRUM MY ASS!" Katsuki roared.
Everyone gave a nervous chuckle as he continued to bellow, since they were just used to the explosive teen's little freak outs, before Aizawa somehow randomly showed up in his yellow sleeping bag. Ochako couldn't get over how it made him look like a slug.
"Seats everyone," he mumbled tiredly as he slug shimmied out of the sleeping bag, taking his place at the front of the classroom. Before anyone even settled down, the teacher spoke again.
"Today we will be reviewing a project. You and two others will do this together." He played carelessly with his scarf as he continued. "The three of you will create a presentation about the modern hero society and how it's different from when quirks first started to appear. This project will help you understand the development of...."
Ochako easily started to daydream, her eyes wandering over the different colored assortment of heads until her gaze landed on a fluffy green one. She quickly averted her gaze, trying not to get distracted by Deku. She knew that if she did, she wouldn't hear the rest of Aizawa's instructions.
"...I don't really care who you work with," the teacher was saying. "As long as you get a decent presentation done. Now, group up quickly, then go get dressed in your workout uniforms. We're doing some exercises today."
Almost instantly, Ochako, Izuku, and their other good friend, Tenya Iida, grouped up. They already had a group chat with each other, named "The Trio", so they just went to the locker rooms.
Ochako swiftly changed into her blue, white, and red U.A. uniform, and was done by the time the other girls got there. Together, the girl students walked outside into the training yard, where most of the boys were already waiting.
Uraraka spotted Midoriya and waved, in which he returned the gesture. Ochako felt a nudge, and she turned to see her friend, Mina Ashido, giving her the smug "you like him" look.
Ochako pushed her way, though she laughed. Mina usually teased her about things like that. The pink skinned student seemed to be an "expert" on shipping, or so she said.
As class 1-A started their training exercises, Ochako was seemingly distracted the entire time. Distracted until out of the corner of her eye, there was a flash of black within the trees surrounding the schools yard. She whipped around, though nothing was there. She blinked, shrugged, and went back to refining her punches. It had probably been a shadow of some sort.
Besides, U.A.'s defensive system around the school was impeccable. The flash of black she saw had been nothing. Nothing at all.
