Chapter 8 - Her name is...
"Oi, isn't it enought?" said Levi when Annie didn't let go after two minutes.
"Alright, alright," Annie smiled and pulled away from Levi.
"So?"
"So?"
"You first," said Annie.
"First sit down and we can talk," Levi offered.
So they did. Levi sat on a couch beside Annie and leaned his elbow on a header, not forgetting to cross his legs. He was feeling comfortable with her around.
"So? What is the occasion of you calling me?" Annie asked finally.
"Does it need to be any occasion?"
She raised her eyebrow.
"Tell me, how are you holding?"
Annie sighed. "Good for now. I miss my father and homeland, that's all. This people here are great. I can't recall having friends like this, even if we know eachother for a short period."
"I'm glad," he said and scratched the back of his neck. He sighed. "I can't help but wonder how much time they'll need to stay here. How much time I'll need to keep them in shadow?" said Levi.
"As much as you must. We can't know anything for sure," Annie answered and squeezed her palms together.
"Any news from my father?" she suddenly asked.
"No. After what Kenny said to me, I didn't hear anything. I'm worrying why he hasn't came to me after that day."
"I see..." Annie said, failing to hide a sadness in her voice.
"Hey," Levi said and ruffled her hair. "Everything's going to be alright."
"I don't think so. My father did everything to protect me numerous times, but they always find a way. What do they want from us, Levi?" she said and looked at him.
"I don't know... I only hope they're not searching for this place."
"Why would they? Did you do something?"
"Yes I did. I accepted this people under my roof," he almost growled. He was angry about those people. They think they can lure people's lives and do anything they want with them. He despiced them from the core.
"You think... they know that?"
Levi shook his head. "I don't think so, but we must have our eyes and ears on alert. If they were able to kill all that people from Ragako just because they've found it, then they're capable of more horrible things."
Annie looked at her palms. She kept her emotionless face, but if you look closely into her eyes, you could see a sadness and guilt. "The saddest thing is... those people could have lived their lives. They couldn't know what that amblem was. If it was with them, they would buy or even steal it from villagers, without taking their lives... Wasn't that the best solution?"
Annie was shaken with what happened to that people. She couldn't stop thinking how cruel and evil humans can actually be. They have the guts to call vampires monsters. Vampires are little kids compared to them.
"They are people with power and poisoned souls. They don't see what is humanly or not. They only see their ideals as right," answered Levi.
He couldn't forget that. The breeze that was blowing in the empty village. No living soul. The silence that was more frightening than the noice of soldiers and warriors shouting in bloody battle. How he was standing alone, shivers running up his spine.
The silence passed, both of them deep in their thoughts.
"Sometimes it's hard to pretend we don't know eachother," said Annie, changing a theme.
"Yes. We don't spend time with eachother as we used to," said Levi. "But we can't let them know about us."
"I know that. It's just not fair when I talk and spend time with them without them knowing I'm lying and pretending I'm someone I'm not. I really want to tell someone."
"That's what I'm here for," Levi mocked.
Annie punched his hand in fake annoyance. They continued talking wor a few hours, until Annie exited the room as careful as she entered it.

.
.
The day of a full moon was coming in two days. No one could say they weren't nervous. Feeling of sharp fangs in your flesh and the human like creature sucking your body liquid wasn't the most beautiful feeling in the world.
"How's your wound, Eren?" asked Mikasa as they were having a breakfast.
"It's better, thanks for asking," Eren replied.
"Are you sure?" Mikasa asked again.
"Yes."
"Let me see it," said Mikasa and tried to put his collar down. Eren moved aside, out of her reach.
"I've said I'm alright."
"..." Mikasa continued eating without another word. All that was watched by Jean. He gritted his teeth in annoyance. Why is Mikasa like that around Eren? She's acting like his mother and barely notices him. Yeager is acting like a spoiled brat, always getting in trouble and Mikasa saving his ass. If he didn't have her, he would have a death wish more than one time.
"Hey Horseface," said Ymir as she elbowed Jean.
"What do you want?" he made a straight face.
"Mikasa is out of your league. Just look at her, a queen."
Jean paused eating and eyed her. "What did you mean by that?"
Ymir grinned. "I'm saying she's too good for you and Eren ready loves her, so I don't think you'll have her."
"What the- Eren lo-"
Jean was cut off with Ymir's hand on his mouth. She made annoying face and placed her index finger on her lips in 'shh' manner. Jean nodded and she released his mouth.
"Are you dumb? You really want to get into another fight? Can't you control yourself and be quiet?"
"Why do you care? I thought you're a troublemaker?"
"Well, not around this period. Full moon, remember?"
"Ugh..."
They continued their meal in silence. As they didn't talk as they usually do, many things was rushing in their minds. Some remembered their childhood or funny moments from life. But for Petra, it was a certain detail in Ymir's story that she missed. She decided she'll talk with her after breakfast.
There wasn't a lot of work so everyone went to their rooms. On her way to girl's dorms, Petra approached Ymir.
"Hey Ymir?"
"Yes?"
"I remembered you said one woman rescued you and took care of you. What's her name?"
"Kuchel Ackerman, why?"
"Kuchel... Kuchel... I know I've heard that name somewhere, just where?" said Petra.
"She... wasn't executed, was she?" Ymir asked.
"I believe not... I just can't remember. Why didn't you say her name to us?"
Ymir scoffed. "I haven't thought it'll be important."
"How can not, if that name rings a bell to anyone, they could tell you if they heard about her."
"Oh, well... I thought if she disappeared like that, than she didn't want to be found," said Ymir. They were whispering all along, to not be heard by someone.
As they were passing by, they couldn't see it. Annie was standing there with eyes wide and clear shock printed all over her face.
"Annie, are you coming?" said Sasha who Annie shared the room with.
"I'll come in a minute, I need to go use the bathroom," she answered.
"Ok. Just know, hurry unless you want me to eat everything," Sasha grinned.
"Go ahead, I'm not hungry."
"Really?" Sasha exclaimed with eyes sparkling.
"I'm positive."
"Thank you!" she came over and hugged Annie.
"Sasha. Bathroom," she said in monotone.
"Ah yes. Sorry."
As Annie approached the end of the hall, she started running in the opposite direction of where bathroom was. She knocked on the door.
Theree knocks. Pause. Four. Pause. One.
Levi opened the door and the same repeated as four days ago. Then Annie told him.
"WHAT?"
"It's true."
Levi sat down on a couch, staring at the floor.
"Are you completly sure?"
"I am. I've heard them well. The woman's name is Kuchel Ackerman."
Levi just sat there, his mind blank. He's found his mother. But where she is now? Ymir said she disappeared. He evesdropped their talk about their lives and how they ended in this castle. He knew he must be carefull with who is he speaking to about things important to him. It caught his ears how Ymir didn't mention the name of the woman that saved her. Maybe she was a rebel, who knows? Who knew that woman could be his mother?
He sighed in annoyance and stood up. His eyes were glowing red. But not in bloodlust. He squezeed his fists, digging his nails in his palms.
Annie saw it and walked over to him. She embraced him to show he's not alone in this. He returned it and they stayed like that for a short time when something started knocking on the window glass. They looked at the window and spotted a falcon. He was hitting the glass with his beak as to ask for an entrance. Levi opened the window and falcon flew again, just to land on his hand. Annie approached and fondled bird's head. She smiled when he responded with turning its neck to the side, allowing her to scratch it. Levi untied the ribbon that was around falcon's leg. He let him go and falcon flew through the window. Annie closed it and put a riddle over it. Levi lit the candle. The flame was enought to luminate text from the paper and they could read it well.
They went away. No danger for us yet. Annie can't go back home, as well as Sasha and Connie. It's not sure for others yet, so keep them close. I'll come in five days,
Kenny.
As they read the letter, Levi put it back into envelope and above the flame. The flame catched the rim of the envelove, then started spreading until Levi let it, both of them watching as it turned into dust.

.
Annie entered the empty room. She noticed a little note on the desk, but she didn't pick it up to read it. She laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Annie, promise me you'll come back home..."
"There's not point in being soft. Are you feeling an empathy towards this evil race?"
"No! I don't want to do this! I don't care what you'll do to me!"
"That's your duty Annie. You're a warrior."
"Go fuck yourself, Reiner! I don't want to take their lives!"
"Your father is waiting for you, Annie. Do it!"
"Did you not hear me? I don't want to do this!"
A knock on the door was heard, much to Annie's dismay. She sat up from the bed. "Come in."
Door cracked open and Christa peeked from behind them.
"Are you ok, Annie?" she asked.
"Yes," she lied.
Christa now fully entered the room.
"Sasha told us she wrote you a note," she said and looked over her desk.
"I haven't read it yet," Annie answered.
"It says we're in Petra and Mikasa's bedroom and you can come with us," she said kindly.
"Are you having a bal there?" said Annie.
Christa giggled. "No, no. We're talking and having fun, come on," she said and grabbed Annie's hand. "Don't you dare to not attend."
"Wait, Christa-"
Christa shook her head. "No excuses." With that, they exited Annie and Sasha's room and soon after entered Mikasa and Petra's one. Petra and Mikasa were on their beds, Sasha was on the floor chewing a bread, leaning on Mikasa's bed while Ymir was sitting on a chair, legs around the back of the chair and elbows resting on its header.
"Where have you been so long?" Sasha asked as she swallowed her piece of bread.
"Bathroom," Annie answered simply.
"What took you so long?" Ymir said. Christa sat beside Petra and Annie was forced to sit beside Mikasa who give her a side glance.
"Those are private things I can't talk about in public."
"Let it go Ymir, it's indecent," said Chirsta and frowned.
"Let's change a theme instead," said Sasha and took another piece of bread. "For example, are you scared because of what's coming in two days?"
"Hmm... I'm not sure about that, but I'll say I'm not," answered Ymir.
"Why?"
"That vampire already bit me, Christa and Petra, so I'm more than confident I'm not going to be picked anytime soon," she answered confident.
"What about you Mikasa?" said Petra. Everyone looked at Mikasa who wore her calm face she always wears. They knew she was never afraid of him, even after drinking her blood.
"I don't feel anything. If that's what we must do, than it'll be like that. After all, he only bites arm."
"What?" said Petra, confused.
"Don't tell me he bit your neck," said Christa with eyes wide.
"... He did," Petra answered, unsure.
"Didn't he bit Eren like that too?" said Ymir. At the mention of that, Mikasa's face became dark.
"It was an accident as what Eren said to me," she said. "But if it ever happens again, I'll kill him."
"Maybe it was an accident in Petra's case too," said Sasha.
Ymir glared at her and Sasha noticed it. She blinked at her and Ymir gave her the face that was telling to not speak any further.
Petra felt her face heating up. Accident. For sure. Hopefully, she won't be choosen for a loong time.
The chating continued, neither of them wanting to go to sleep.
AN: Ok, so this chapter was a little bit weird and maybe bored to some, but is definitelly not a filler. I tried to bring a relaxing chapter that focuses on other characters and their time. I have intention to not focus only on Levi and Petra, but on other characters as well. Yes, this is mostly Rivetra story, but it won't neglect other characters. See you next chapter!
