Chapter 11 - Confusion

The only belongings Petra had were clothes she wore when Levi saved her. It consisted of her white skirt, brown boots, white button up shirt and brown short poncho. Silky scarf that was a present from her mother, was tied around her neck. The article was golden colour, just like her eyes.

As Mikasa woke up before her, Petra was alone in the room. Without wasting a time, she pulled out her clothes from the drawer and put it on. She brushed her hair and put on her scarf carefully. It was something precious to her. Standing up, she tapped her foot on the floor, checking if material hugged her legs well.

Stepping out, she turned around for the last time. She'll miss this little room. Closing door, she made her way towards the Dining hall. As she came to her destination, she heard noice and laughts from behind. Sighing, she opened the door slowly.

Breakfast was almost over as could be seen from almost empty plates. Eld was teasing Eren for him and Mikasa, Connie and Sasha were laughting at Jean's angered face, while Annie was examining the situatuon from distance, cheek leaned in her palm. Auruo, Ymir and Christa were trying to finish their meals, Gunther and Armin were talking something between themselves. Out of boredom, Annie's eyes travelled over each face at the table until she spotted certain orange haired girl standing on the doorway.

"Petra?"

The word seemed to have an effect on everyone. Silence fell on the room and all eyes were on Petra.

"Petra, what...?" said Gunther.

"I'm going home."

It was like an eternity passed from Petra's declaration. As silence became uncomfortable, Petra tried to say something but her friends beat her on it. They started cheering to Petra's unconditional surprise. Sasha runned over and hugged her, almost knocking all the air out of her lungs.

"Congratulations!" she exclaimed as she pulled away.

"Thanks!" Petra giggled.

"Is that really true?" said Auruo, happier than he ever was these days.

"It is."

"Than that's great! Five months, if my memory doesn't deceive me," said Eld.

"Five and a half," answered Petra.

"God, we know you for a six months and the feeling is if we knew you a whole life," said Connie.

"Same here... I'll really miss you all, but I'll come for a visit as often as I can," said Petra.

"We'll miss you too, who's going to show Connie his place if you're not around?" said Ymir with a grin.

"Or calming down this suicidal bastard," said Jean with arms crossed, side glancing at Eren.

"Hey!" Eren yelled and if he wasn't held by arm by Mikasa, he would start another fight with an iritating boy.

"Calm down, both of you," Petra raised her voice. Jean and Eren automatically stopped mutual teasing like they were turned off on a button.

"What are we going to do now?" said Auruo.

"Petra really made a way to your heart, ha?" teased Ymir.

"No, she's a dear friend," Auruo said, telling the pure truth.

"You really can't take any joke," Ymir stated with a bored face.

While they chatted, minds of two certain girls wasn't on ease. Annie was shocked by this, Levi didn't tell her anything. What's happening? Is he giving up or?

Mikasa was temping if it'll be smart to tell what she saw last night. From childhood, she was very sensitive and the sence of someone else's presence in the room could easily wake her up. Carefull to narrow her eyes so Levi can't notice their sparkle, she was looking at the scene before her. Even though she was dumbfounded by what she witnessed and heard, waking Petra up and asking questions wasn't at the end of her mind. But now when she said she's leaving, Mikasa couldn't be more positive that Levi said his goodbye for real and more.

"Haven't you heard something while you were sleeping, Petra?" asked Mikasa.

"No, why?" said Petra.

"Because I heard a sound like someone's been walking on the floor."

"When?"

"I'm not completly sure, but I think it was around two in the morning."

"Who would walk into ladies room in the middle of the night? You certainly heard some night animals outside," said Gunther.

Mikasa seemed deep in her thoughts for a second then nodded. She always was a good actress. "Must be it."

"You must be hungry, you almost skipped the breakfast," said Historia.

Petra smiled awkwardly. "I am. Why didn't you wake me up, Mikasa?" she said and turned to face Mikasa.

"You were tired so I decided it's the best for you to have some rest."

As Petra sat and started eating, others finished their meals quickly. Putting the plates away and cleaning the table, they continued their talk. Until Connie remembered something rather important.

"Hey, hey! What happened with Levi yesterday? He didn't call us to pick," said Connie

"He drank from me," Petra answered, hands in her lap.

"Eh?" said Ymir, both surprised and confused.

"When?" said Armin with a full concern.

"Wait... Did you let him...?" Sasha gasped, eyes wide as sauces, pointing at Petra's neck. The golden scarf hiding most of her skin wasn't something that can be seen every day.

"I had to," Petra answered and squeezed her palms together. As they were under the table, no one could see it, or so she thought. "He didn't want to pick and he started choking. If I didn't offer him my blood, he would have died."

"So... the blood he drank is... his source of life energy?" said Armin.

"But he eats food as a normal human," said Jean.

"Maybe he needs blood in time to time," said Eld. "Unless he wouldn't drank from us."

"But why from us?" said Sasha.

"I can't even think. Maybe there's something behind it," said Christa.

"Just what?" said Petra.

A drop of sweat almost formed on Annie's temple. Hands tied, she couldn't say anything without being uncovered.

Discussion continued in that way until they decided to go outside and enjoy the day. They were in The Hall now, approaching the door.

"Hey."

At the sound of a deep voice speaking, the group froze in place. Turning around, they spotted the short vampire standing there with arms crossed over his chest.

"Everyone out except Petra. I want to have a talk with her."

Glancing at eachother then at Petra, they exited throught the door, not fully calm in the heart. Annie was at the back and used the last chance before she exited to give Levi significant look. The door closed and Petra and Levi were alone. After a minute of neither of them speaking, Levi decided to break the ice.

"I wanted to say goodbye."

As the words were spoken, something ached in Petra's chest. All of a sudden, water pooled in her eyes, but she covered it with a smile.

"I thought you'll come later."

Levi closed the gap between them. "I'm here now," he said.

"Levi... When... I met you for the first time... I was scared because I thought if you're a vampire, it means you're a monster... I won't lie," Petra said and locked her eyes with his.

"But when you talked with me later on, I was relieved you were not like it. As time passed... I..."

"You...?" Levi said.

"I... I'll miss you... more than you think."

Instead of replying with words, Levi reached into his pocked and pulled out a little black box. Petra looked at it, confused then at him again.

Levi opened it and Petra could see the silver locket. It was oval shaped, its frame decorated with plant motives and two little birds at the each side.

"This was mine. Now is yours," he said and took her palm, placing it there.

"I-I can't accept this. It's yours and-" Petra tried to protest, but Levi cut her off.

"And I'm giving it to you."

Petra looked at Levi with unsure eyes then at the locket.

"It's so beautiful."

But not as beautiful as you.

"Thank you, Levi," said Petra with a warm smile. Still holding the silver locket, she untied her golden scarf.

"What are you doing?"

"You gave me something yours, so I'm going to give you something mine," she said and took a step closer to black-haired man and put a scarf around his neck. Petra connected two ends and tied them together. When she finished, she tugged at the material, fixing it, her ckeeks flushed, barely noticeable. Raising her head at Levi, she saw his eyes smoldering with something she couldn't recongize.

"Thank you," he said.

The cloth covered it, but Levi was worried about her bite mark that certainly didn't heal.

"Your shoulder... people will see."

"They won't. The shirt hides it and-"

"If anyone sees it, everyone will know."

"..."

"I can-"

"I know."

"Then... shall I...?"

"Alright," the girl answered.

Levi slid her poncho then shirt, enough to reveal her bare shoulder with bite mark. Putting his arms around her tiny waist, he conected his lips with her soft skin. At the feeling of his tongue on her shoulder, Petra tensed up and brought her palms to his chest.

Levi had his eyes closed, enjoying her proximity and warmess of her skin. He was honest when he said people will see and he's offering the help. He couldn't imagine what can happen to her if someone finds out. Not once he heard about women people threw out because they were 'vampire's lover' as they liked to call it.

Petra completly leaned on him and relaxed, breathing in his scent. She wanted to cry, to wrap her arms around his neck and return his hug, but she questioned if it was right. Gesture would mean she loves him and she didn't know if she does.

Both of them would lie if they said they weren't enjoying the moment. Never did they experienced something that... beautiful.

Although Petra's wound was completly healed at this point, Levi didn't want to end this bliss yet. As he skimmed with his lips over her shoulder, he heard something that froze everything in his body for a brief moment.

"You can stop there rat."

Levi locked his eyes with a tall man who was leaning on the wall, hands in pockets of his coat, amused expression printed on his face.

"How did you- How long are you here?" Levi almost stammered.

The man chuckled. "Long enought to see everything. I'm not surprised you haven't heard me though, considering you were busy with other things."

Petra didn't dare to show her face. She didn't want this stranger to see her face so she burried it in Levi's shoulder.

Levi frowned. "You said you'll come in five days, not in three."

"I miscalculated. I'm bringing the news, not good at all."

Levi shot Kenny a warning glare, knowing what he wants to say.

"Ah! Where are my manners?" he approached and raised his hat in a greeting manner. "My name is Kenny Ackerman, what about you Miss?"

Petra slowly turned her head, now fully able to see the man. He was abnormally tall, slightly old, black coat with matching hair. He was smiling at her and even took off his hat to greet her. She glanced at Levi who frowned at him even more but didn't say anything, so she was sure it was safe to answer.

"Petra Ral, sir," she responded.

"Nice to meet you Miss Petra. I would like to kiss your hand in a greeting manner, but..."

Petra blushed a little, this time half in embarrassement, her brows furrowed this time.

"So Levi, let's get to the point. Luckily I got here just in time. I'm afraid Miss Petra can't go back home yet."

What?

"What are you talking sir? Why can't I go back?" she said worriedly.

"A bunch of them are there. If she returns now, rumor will spread from who she returned and it would make a truble," said Kenny, half answering Petra's question.

"Not in her presence," Levi said. Petra could feel vibration from his chest and throat as she was so close to him.

"Also Connie and Sasha. They-"

"I SAID NOT IN HER PRESENCE!" Levi yelled. The man named Kenny didn't flinch. Petra squeezed Levi's hand in attempt to calm his down and it worked. Levi sighed to Kenny's surprise. He lowered his gaze and noticed Petra's hand on Levi's forearm.

"She needs to know. I see you haven't told her yet. When are you planning to?" said Kenny.

Petra looked at Levi's face. To her sirprise, he didn't look angry as earlier. He was indeed, but not to that intensity. His blue eyes narrowed and frown between his eyes was deep.

This will get back to you and hit your tick head, thought Kenny.

Levi gave Kenny one last glance and focused his attention on Petra. He was still holding her waist. His grip tightened as he looked her with the most serious expression Petra ever saw. She stared back at him, waiting for his words.

"Petra, I'm so sorry. You heard him."

Her amber eyes widened. Petra looked at Kenny then at Levi again. "Why I can't go back home? Who are they?"

"Go outside," Levi said and let go of her.

"Levi, what's happening?"

"Just go outside," Levi repeated. Petra carefully exited, not breaking the eye contact with him on the way.

"Kenny, what the actual fuck?" he said when he couldn't hear Petra's steps anymore.

"She needs to know one way or another."

"All thanks to you. Only if you kept your mouth shut, she wouldn't suspect anything."

"From what I saw, I think you can't keep her in the shadow for so long. She and yo-"

"She doesn't need someone like me and I vowed to not tell her."

Kenny was stunned for a moment then returned to his normal expression, he knew there's no place nor time for this.

"My sister is waiting," Levi said.

Kenny nodded and they proceeded to The Big Room. As heavy doors were opened, two men were greeted by the girl already sitting on the couch. She stood up when they entered.

"Uncle," she said.

"Long time no see, Annie," answered Kenny.
