Chapter Two
The clan was left soundness. All they could hear was the roaring wind. Nightshade broke the silence, destroying the ears of cats.
"MY PRECIOUS KIT THAT I FREAKIN GAVE BIRTH TOO! NU!" Nightshade screamed.
Breezestar rested his tail on his mate's shoulder. He gave her an affectionate brush. Flamekit now understood why he felt so proud of his kits, only to have them taken away. He turned over and looked for Dawnkit, his sister. But she wasn't there. Then he looked far ahead.
A brown and white she-cat was lying there motionless. It must be Dawnkit.
"Oh no," Flamekit sighed under his breathe taking in grief.
Nightshade and Breezestar padded towards Flamekit. He didn't feel like he needed help. All he wanted to do is sulk in the tunnels and die. But that wasn't a choice. He had to help Dawnkit. He ran over swiftly as his orange tail was left low. Breezestar padded along.
"Another kit wasted," he murmured with a slight deep hint in his voice.
"She wasn't wasted! Both of them weren't!" Flamekit cried as he brushed his tail over Breezestar's chest, because he couldn't reach his mouth.
Why did he act as if the kits were such a joke? He only had one way to find out.
"Do you think we're just a waste of space?" Flamekit asked examining us father.
He only froze and his claws dug deep in the sand, since they were now along the shore. Maybe he wasn't so proud of his kits anyways. Flamekit tried again.
"Do you you think we're a waste of space?" He asked again with a hint of annoyance.
Breezestar growled. He raised his paw and cuffed his son's ear. Flamekit bounced back and hissed. Nightshade awkwardly picked up Dawnkit with by her scruff. Dawnkit's beautiful eyes were closed and she only seemed to be a small bundle of fur.
After minutes of hunting, a patrol came back. All looked suspicious. Rabbittail stepped up to explain what they saw.
"We saw another clan, full of rogues and Kittypets," he explained. "They said that they had joined together to show that Kittypets and rogues are just like clan cats."
Breezestar huffed unhappily and twitched his tail. He opened his mouth to speak.
"Tell them that we'll have a gathering at the Three Stones," he sighed. "Also tell them that this isn't the best time to gloat," he added with a growl.
Time passed. It was moonlight. Dawnkit was resting in the medicine cat's den. Flamekit was nestled up against his mother, Nightshade. Her pelt felt warm against his fur and he began to purr. This was one of the first times he had slept with no littermates.
"You still have a ceremony you know," Nightshade suddenly reminded him, which made him bounce. Sure, he did. But that wasn't going to stop him from sleeping here one more time when the apprentice den is wretched. Flamekit bounced up to see Darkkit.
"Darkkit?"
No replies came from the young kit's mouth.
