Chapter One
Dawnkit woke up from her nursery, nestled up against her mother. Her moss was burning hot, after rolling off. She groaned as she got up and yawned.
"Attractive," a voice mewed.
Dawnkit looked up to see her father, Breezestar. Her ears grew hot in embarrassment, and her tail waved
"Yeah, I figured you would say that. Why here so early?"
Breezestar hesitated and walked right back out. But suddenly he turned over and pulled up Dawnkit by the scruff.
"Ow!" Dawnkit cried. She struggled to move.
As she scrambled, she noticed that she was being taken out to the camp. The sun seemed to roll all of its heat onto her pelt. The whistles of grass rang in her ears.
"Welcome to your ceremony," a voice called out.
Dawnkit turned her head and looked behind to see Nightshade. Her green eyes flashed with pride. Now she finally knew why! WOOHOO! Breezestar dropped Dawnkit to the ground. She scrambled to find her balance. Breezestar leaped upon his stone. His chest puffed out and his eyes sparkled. His mouth opened up to speak.
"Today, I want to congratulate and welcome my kits, who will earn their apprentice name," Breezestar spoke loud and clearly, though his voice was low.
Dawnkit looked over her shoulder to see Flamekit and Birdkit trembling with happiness and surprise. They didn't seem to even be able to stand. Birdkit stopped. A loud screech spread across the camp, suddenly. Breezestar and the other cats stopped talking and turned to see what was happening. Dawnkit drew her ears back and her lips and developed a snarl. As so, she saw a bird fly throughout the sky, guiding and swirling in circles continuously.
"It's a hawk! Clear the dens, Fuzzycloud!" Breezestar began to yell at the sight.
Dawnkit froze and continue to look up but Nightshade grabbed her by the scruff with her sharp teeth. Dawnkit then heard another screech from the hawk. Her ears flattened along with Nightshade. She whispered into her ear.
"I know you're not a kit anymore, but I can't risk it. If I did, you wouldn't be here to hear," Nightshade growled as she quickened her pace and continued to look forward.
Dawnkit nodded by her neck was caught by the teeth, so it was hard to do so. She then felt her teeth loosen. Nightshade still went faster. Dawnkit felt like she was a lion, running at this speed. The teeth in her scruff loosened more.
"You're gonna let go of me! Stop!" Dawnkit cried as more wind caught her eye. Literally.
Nightshade ignored her. She continue to run, while the screeching grew more loud. Before Dawnkit knew it, she was hurling on the grassy ground, without Nightshade. A loud yowl for help soon awoke her. She clawed the grass to make her stop and turned around. Birdkit was flying off into the distance while talons of the hawk curled into her.
"We'll get you! I'm sorry!" Dawnkit began running frantically towards him.
Birdkit didn't turn. Talk. Or do anything.
