Prologue

Natalie Bishop dreamt of becoming a detective since she was little. At the young age of 20, she was getting ready to graduate college in the spring, two years earlier than most people. Currently, Natalie was doing an internship in Boston. She was working alongside the detectives in the city to help them solve cases.

Within the last few months, multiple homicides have occurred and the detectives are nowhere close to figuring out who is committing these crimes. The lead detective, Detective Argent, has called the Behavioral Analysis Unit to help out.

"Hello, I'm Agent Hotchner, this is my team. Do you have anywhere to set up?" The agent asks.

"Yes, Natalie can show you the way." Argent gestures to Natalie. "I need to make a call then I will be right with you. In the mean time Natalie can answer your questions and help you get set up."

"Right this way." Natalie walks past the desks to a conference room.

"I'm Derek Morgan. Are you a detective?" Morgan asks.

"Not yet. I'm an intern. I'll be graduating college in the spring so I'm helping out on some cases." Natalie replies.

"You look a bit young to be graduating so soon." Another agent pipes in.

"You're Agent Gideon, right?" The agent nods, "I've read all your books. I have a photographic memory so I skipped a few grades." Natalie answers.

"What can you tell us about the case?" A young man asks, taking out papers to look everything over.

"Spencer Reid. He's our boy genius." Derek leans over to tell Natalie.

"All of what we know got sent to you guys. But pretty much the killer has a type. Pretty, young, brunette, woman. Usually petite but there have been a couple that don't fit that description to a T." Natalie tells the group.

"So girls like you?" Hotchner questions.

"Yeah. Lucky me." Natalie jokes. "Each victim disappears on a Saturday and aren't found until Friday. So the killer is keeping them somewhere for almost a whole week."

"It would have to be somewhere that people don't look. Either outside the city or maybe an abandoned building." Morgan says.

"There aren't too many abandoned buildings in Boston. I think while the killer has someone hostage, he's already preparing for his next victim."

"Why do you think that?" Gideon asks.

"He knows the victims routines. He knew the exact time that Charlotte Harding was getting home from work and waited for her at her apartment. He knew that Gwen Sterling ran in the woods every morning at 5 and waited on her route to take her. The list goes on. It's only things that close friends and family would know, and none of these girls are connected to each other."

"Plus he's consistent on the day when a victim is taken and when they are found. It's almost like it's staged.  Like routines are important to him. Everything that he's doing revolves around a routine." Natalie fills in the agents.

"Good detective work. I'm agent Greenaway." Elle sticks out her hand, not getting the chance to introduce herself earlier.

"Thanks. I hope that helps you guys."

"It does, thanks for the help Natalie." Hotchner replies.

A week goes by and another victim was found, it's late Saturday night when Natalie leaves the police station. She texts her boyfriend, Grayson, that she's leaving and she should be home in about 20 minutes. As she's putting her bag into her car, someone comes up behind her, grabbing her roughly and putting a cloth over her mouth.

After 40 minutes go by and Natalie still isn't home, Grayson calls the station. "Hello?"

"Hi. Is Natalie still at the station? She was supposed to be home 20 minutes ago but I haven't heard from her." Grayson says to the person on the phone.

"Let me check for you but I'm pretty sure she already headed out." After about 5 minutes the officer gets back on the phone, "She's not here. I was told she left about 40 minutes ago."

Grayson looks outside one more time, "Can I report her missing then? She's exactly the murders type."

"You're supposed to wait at least 24 hours to report someone missing."

"You're kidding right? There is a murderer on the loose who has a clear type which my girlfriend fits. I can't get in contact with her and she was supposed to be back 25 minutes ago. She's never late. Something is wrong and you need to do your job and find her." Grayson yells.

"Sir please calm down." The officer gets cut off.

"What's wrong?" Gideon asks the officer.

"It's Natalie Bishop's boyfriend on the phone. He's saying she's missing but she's only been gone 25 minutes." The officer replies.

"I swear to fucking God." Grayson mumbles.

Gideon takes the phone, "This is Agent Gideon speaking. Natalie is your girlfriend?"

"Yes."

"Why do you think she's missing?"

"She always texts me when she leaves the station to let me know she's on her way home. She's never late. She hasn't answered any of my calls or texts and she still isn't home. It's been almost 30 minutes now. I know she's the murders type. Please. I wouldn't be calling if I didn't think something was wrong."

"I believe you. We'll do everything to make sure she's safe."

3 days later, Natalie is still missing, but the FBI have figured out who the killer is. Now they just need to find out where he and Natalie are.

"Andrew. Why are you doing this?" Natalie asks, she went to school with the killer.

"You were always the girl I wanted to be with Natalie. I've known you since we were 6, we used to be friends." Andrew rants.

"Then in 9th grade you and Grayson started to date." He spits out Grayson's name. "I can't believe you would go for a disgusting Chinaman when you could have had me."

Natalie wanted to correct that he was Korean but knew not to antagonize him more. "Andrew, please. I never even knew that you liked me."

"Liked? I loved you! Hell, I'm still madly in love with you. The minute we got into high school you stopped being my friend. Sure you were still kind to me but you didn't want to hang out."

"You never asked. If you just asked I would had."

"Bullshit! Don't lie to me."

"I'm not lying to you. I promise, I'm not lying to you. You were always so kind. I liked talking to you. I know I started dating Grayson and I had my small group of friends but I hung out with them because they always asked me to."

"So you would leave your life behind. Run away with me?" Andrew asks, a small bit of hope in his voice.

"Of course I would. You're amazing, Andrew. I know you just want what's best for me. So please, let me prove my loyalty."

Andrew walks over and kneels on the ground beside Natalie. He grabs her face and forcibly kisses her. She kisses back to try and get him to untie her.

He pulls away slightly and rips her shirt open, Natalie gasps in surprise. "You're gorgeous." Andrew licks his lips and traces a finger down her chest.

"Let me touch you." Natalie whispers to him.

"How do I know you won't run away?"

"I want you. I want this. Andrew, you have to trust me."

"But what about Grayson? I thought you loved him?"

"I don't. I settled with him because I thought I would never get you. But I know that's not true now. You love me. And I love you."

Andrew is about to untie Natalie when Morgan comes through the door, "Step away from her, Andrew."

Andrew is still looking into Natalie's eyes. Natalie refuses to break eye contact, afraid of what might happen if she does. "I won't let him take you away from me." Andrew whispers.

He moves to aim the gun in his hand at Morgan but Morgan is faster. He shoots Andrew, who falls dead beside Natalie. His blood coating her skin.

Natalie's eyes are closed as Morgan runs over, he unties her binds then pulls his coat off to put over her shoulders. Morgan carries her outside and over to the waiting ambulance.

A day later Natalie is in the hospital and ready to leave. "Grayson, I'm fine."

"You were just kidnapped by a serial killer we happened to go to school with. You watched as said killer was shot and killed right in front of you. You are not fine!" Grayson exclaims.

"Yeah, I've been through shit. Haven't we all?" Natalie jokes. Grayson glares in response. "Oh my God. Relax a little. I'm alive and well. I am right here. Okay?"

"Hey lovebirds, just checking in." Derek Morgan knocks on the door.

"Hey!" Natalie smiles, "Thank you so much for finding me."

"Of course, we couldn't let anything happen to you. And you were a big help to the case."

"I was?" Natalie's eyes knit together in confusion.

"We took your theory about how he was stalking people. Turns out you were right. It's how we found him so quickly. Grayson actually put the puzzle pieces together."

"I caught Andrew by our house one day a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen him since we graduated but I remembered he always had a thing for you. I figured it was worth noting." Grayson replies with a shrug.

"Well, thank you again, Morgan."

"Call me Derek."

Since that day, Derek and Natalie kept in touch. He even flew out to Boston to go to her college graduation. Derek had a big impact on Natalie's life after her kidnapping. It was such a big impact that Natalie decided that being a detective wasn't enough. She wanted to become an FBI agent, specifically a member of the BAU just like the man who saved her. And just a year after she was rescued, she got that opportunity.
