Arc 2: Shadows In The Glass

Katherine: You'll each be assigned into groups of four and given a grid.

Anne: Search for any sign of Matt.

Micheal: We'll do two-hour shifts,

Benjamin: And then we'll return to base camp to warm up and pick a new grid.

Jack: Oh and stay hydrated.

The officers and civilians nodded as they began the search for Matt Caldwell while Alex was staring at them until he noticed someone speaking to another civilian.

It was the same women that he saw, however Winters noticed she was talking to someone and even laughing as he saw who it was.

Alex looked at them laughing as he had a feeling that they were a couple, however he had a few doubts about those two and wondered what they were up too. However his thoughts faded away when he heard the officer speaking to Katherine.

Officer: You didn't include any Seneca land in your search area.

Katherine: I asked Abraham Brown to organize the search on their side. They're already in the woods.

Officer: Copy that.

[That deer was killed on Seneca land. They're gonna find it soon. If I missed a blood trail to my own cabin. What else did I miss?]

Alex: Katherine.

Katherine: Yeah?

Alex: I was thinking Harrison and I can take that area into the woods.

Katherine: We got it covered, Jim.

Alex: No, we want to help. The terrain gets rough. My RTV will get through it faster.

Katherine: Okay. . . . . Fine. You and your son can take it.

Alex noticed the anger in her voice as she immediately turned around and walked away as Winters was silent until he heard Katherine saying something.

Katherine: Guys, let's get a drone in the air.

[A drone. . . . . That's just great.]

Anne, Benjamin and Michael were controlling three drones in the air as it was flying around the woods while they were also looking at the video footage on the tablet. Harrison noticed them as he walked towards them and spoke to them.

Harrison: Is the drone police grade?

Anne: Yeah.

Harrison: Built in mapping software?

Benjamin: That's correct.

Micheal: Wanna try?

Harrison: How about later?

Suddenly heavy wind caused two drone to hit the tree as it fell down on the ground while a bird flew towards the drone, hitting it, causing the device to fall down on the ground as the team sighed to themselves. Katherine also saw what happened as she knew the drones won't be enough to search the woods.

However unknown to them, Alex saw what happened as a small sinister smile emerged on his face.

[I might get away with this after all.]

Meanwhile Lily was in the bathroom as she was vomiting after drinking too much champagne as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. She closed the tap and exited the bathroom as she was feeling tired and grabbed her jacket.

She put her jacket on as Lily climbed on the bed and laid her head on the pillow as she fell asleep. However she was still unaware of the camera in the room as someone was looking at the video footage in the laptop and the mysterious man continued watching the video footage.

Meanwhile Katherine was driving through the road as she took a left turn and continued driving forward until she noticed a mansion in front of her.

She stopped the car by the main gate as Katherine noticed the camera until she heard something on the intercom.

Guard: [Via Intercom] Do you have an appointment?

Katherine showed the badge on the camera and the main gate was immediately opened before she continued driving forward.

Meanwhile Alex and Harrison were driving through the woods using the RTV to search for Matt but Winters was also doing this to cover up any blood trails that leads back to his cabin.

Harrison: You're kind of swerving a lot.

Alex: I'm just avoiding rocks.

[Usually blood sets my teeth on edge. Now it's giving me whiplash.]

Harrison: So, Ummm you and the police chief. You two are dating?

Alex: Yeah. We've been dating for a month now.

Harrison: Oh I see.

They continued driving through the woods as Harrison said something to Alex and he was listening to him.

Harrison: So why here?

Alex: Oh ummm. . . . . Do you like, hate nice weather?

Both of them chuckled and continued driving as Alex continued speaking to Harrison.

Alex No, it's quiet, peaceful. No crime. No temptations from the outside world.

Harrison: No crime? What? You think this missing guy just like got lost out here?

A vision of Alex stabbing Matt in the heart and using a power saw to dismember him played in his mind before Winters said something to Harrison.

Alex: Probably. People get lost
in these woods all the time.

Suddenly Harrison noticed something in the distance as he told Alex to stop the RTV and he immediately stopped it. Both of them exited the vehicle and continued moving forward until they saw what it was.

It was the deer that Matt shot yesterday, Harrison was shocked by what he saw as Alex said something to him.

Alex: This could be a crime scene. That deer was shot on Seneca land. It's against the law to kill them. We need to tell Katherine. My phone won't work out here. Can you drive the RTV?

Harrison: Yeah, I should be fine.

Alex: All right, just follow the trail back and get them here as fast as you can. I'll make sure no one disturbs the scene.

Harrison nodded and immediately got inside the RTV as he began driving away while Alex slowly walked towards the crime scene.

[Got to find the source of that blood trail.]

Meanwhile Katherine was inside the mansion as he was looking at a painting on the wall until she heard someone speaking to her as she turned around and saw Edward Olsen.

Edward: Beautiful, isn't it?

Katherine: Well, look at you.

Edward: Chief, if you're here to apologize about that little protest yesterday-

Katherine: We've got a hunter who disappeared in the woods last night. We're searching on foot but we
have over square miles to cover.

Edward: [Smiles] And you need my helicopter.

Katherine: It would really help.

Edward: [Chuckles] Then it's yours. My pilot was an Army Ranger. He knows the area. I'll have him coordinate with your office.

Katherine: Thank you. Well I'll get going.

Edward: Oh, hold on.

Katherine: What is it?

Edward: That young woman yesterday. The one who was leading the protest. Is she by any chance your daughter?

Katherine: Samantha.

Edward: Hmm. Unfortunately, her generation sees the world only in black and white, good and evil. And that climate change denying oil baron persona that people are all too
happy to pin on me, it ignores all of the good I do. All of my charity work,
including to the Seneca people. The supplies I donate every year to keep the reservation, medical clinic running and the food during the holidays.

Katherine: It's very much appreciated.

She began walking away as Edward had a smile on his face before he said something to her.

Edward: We'll get that bird up in the air soon.

Meanwhile Alex was looking around the crime scene as he fixed his jacket and gloves and continued looking around.

[The mystery is where did I screw up?]

As Alex was looking around the crime scene, Olivia was standing in front of him as she had a smile on her face and said something to her brother.

Olivia: [Smiles] They always say killers return to the scene of their crime. But this is f****** ridiculous. [Laughs]

Alex: It's not funny!

Olivia laughed at him as Alex was looking around until he remembered what happened. When he hit Matt with the rifle, Caldwell fell down and hit his head on the rock.

Winters began looking around until he saw something buried under the snow as he picked it up and found the blood stained rock.

Alex: Mystery solved.

Winters opened his bag as he pulled out the glass cleaner spray and began spraying it on the rock.

Alex began cleaning the blood stains off the rock as Olivia laughed at him before she said something to him.

Olivia: [Laughs] You think Windexing that rock is gonna solve your problem?!

Alex: Yes. Yes, I do.

Winters got up as he continued moving towards the river as Olivia continued speaking to him.

Olivia: He has your brain. He's smart enough to know that people don't fake their death if they have nothing to hide! Who do you think you're fooling?!

Alex threw the rock towards the river as he turned around and saw Olivia staring at him as he said something to her.

Alex: I told you, the Matt thing
was a one time screw up.

He continued moving through the woods as Olivia was following him while she spoke to him.

Olivia: What the actual f*** do
you think you're doing? Harrison's been here for one day and you have him in the woods looking for a man you killed? He'd be so much better off without you.

Alex: He's my son. I lost him once. I won't lose him again.

Winters noticed the highway as he removed Matt's bloody glove from his bag and threw it on the ground.

[Once again, I have to stay
a step ahead of everyone. With Matt's help, I can do that.]

Alex: Thanks dude.

Winters began making his way back to the crime scene until he noticed several angry members of the seneca nation surrounding the dead deer as Abraham noticed Alex standing in front of them.

[Perfect. More people to mess up the crime scene.]

Abraham: Hey, Jim. White buck. Left here to rot. Such a waste. . . . . None of us would have done something like this.

Alex:. . . . . . . . You think maybe Matt Caldwell would?

Abraham:. . . . . . What?

Alex: He was hunting out here. It could explain why we can't find him.

Suddenly they saw Katherine, Anne, Benjamin and Michael walking towards the crime scene.

Katherine: We need to secure the perimeter.

Abraham: This is bulls***, Katherine.
I'm betting the Caldwell kid did this then panicked and ran.

Anne: The highway is just a couple
of klicks in that direction.

Benjamin: He could've hitched and ran out of town.

Katherine: It's plausible. But there's no evidence tying Matt to this deer. So we'll process the scene.

Micheal: Everyone, stand back.

[Uh oh, this is not good.]

Katherine: For now, the search for Matt goes on including here on Seneca land.

Abraham was upset as he stared at Katherine before he said something to her.

Abraham: Even after he did this? If he did this.

Katherine was staring at him as Abraham chuckled before he said something to her.

Abraham: Pretty amazing how the entire town turns out for Caldwell. When one of our girls goes missing. . . . ."Runaways always come back." After Iris, you of all people should know.

Katherine: Things are different in Iron Lake now.

Abraham was silent before he walked away as Alex was looking at them and was thinking about what he said and wondered who Iris is?

Soon Katherine, Anne, Benjamin and Michael were examining the crime scene while Alex and Harrison were watching them as they were speaking to each other.

Anne: Looks like the slug's still in the carcass.

Micheal: There's no exit wound.

Alex: I sold Matt a rifle and bullets
a couple of days ago. I could bring in some of the ammo to the station.

The team nodded before they heard an officer running towards them while holding Matt's bloody glove as the officer told them that he found the glove near the highway as they were speaking to each other.

Benjamin: That coward shot the deer, knew he was in trouble and immediately ran away.

Officer: Look, this may not even be Matt's glove. Someone could've dropped it a month ago.

Alex: Matt had gloves like that when he was in the store.

Katherine: I also see some blood stains on the glove. Let's get this and the deer back to town. We'll test the blood. We'll see if it matches.

Everyone nodded as Katherine stood up and walked towards Alex as she said something to him.

Katherine: Well thanks to you, we got some real leads. Not bad for your very first crime scene. [Chuckles]

Alex: [Chuckles] Just lucky we stumbled on it. You can use my deer sled to get it back to town if you want.

Katherine smiled at him and nodded before she looked at Harrison and said something to him.

Katherine: [Smiles] Harrison. The high school just got out so the students are joining the search. Maybe you can meet some of the students.

Harrison: [Smiles] That'd be great.

Katherine smiled at him and began walking away as Alex and Harrison began making their way to get the deer sled while speaking to each other.

Harrison: Why aren't you a cop anymore?

Alex: Technically, I wasn't actually a cop.

Harrison: Well, Hannah said you were a cop and you did a great job too.

Alex:. . . . . . Maybe. But being at those crime scenes day after day. . . . . It just got to be too much. I'm happier now.

Harrison nodded as both of them got the deer sled and began making their way back as they needed to get the deer to the town.
