Chapter 6

Darkfrost's eyes widened to see several cats near the entrance he ducked his head and breathed deeply as cats spat at him and hissed. A large warrior, Badgersun, came up to Fawnshadow and licked her ear. "Why did you bring it back?" He said indicating Dakrfrost. Fawnshadow looked at him and narrowed her eyes. "He put up a fight, I realized how strong he was, I decided we could use him as a worker, he isn't worth anything dead, and we came to a agreement after he took a good beating.", she said cruelly in his direction. Darkfrost Elton his head hang even closer to the ground, avoiding the amused eyes of the others warriors. Darkfrost felt his heart rip in two as the other warriors started do crowd around him, openly laughing. "What a she-cat to much for you vicious killer?", Beesting sneared. Darkfrost didn't answer as Waspnettle shoved him to the ground. "Why can't we kill him, it'll be more fun!", Waspnettle declared. Bearstar came up. "What does Seastorm have to say about this?",, the brown tom asked. Darkfrost didn't even look at the grey tom as he stood back up. Seastorm looked down at the black tabby. "Do what you want with him, he is nothing but a rogue.", the words were so cruel and hateful that they sliced through Darkfrost's whole body, causing him to shiver. Why had this cat raised him if he hated him so much. Waspnettle smiled and unsheathed his claws digging them into Darkfrost's shoulders and ripping at his skin. He screeched in pain and attempted to swing at him. He was yanked back by the ivy tendril around his beck. Fawnshadow gave him a chilling stare and he sheathed his claws. He dropped his head again. A bit of fur covering one eye. Waspnettle ad beesting laughed. "Now you obey the deputy huh? What did she do to you back there?", the toms sneered as Darkfrost limped torwards the deputy who gave him a warning nip. He hissed but didn't attack. He waited for her to take him away. And tried to drown out all of the laughs and sneers. He wasn't so sure if he was happy to be alive or not.

The rain beat down on Darkfrost's head as he waited for the sun to rise. His guards sat in the cover of an overhang talking about she-cats and hunting. A bit of fur had grown to cover one of Darkfrost's eyes and he had used it to hide his tears. Everyday his life became more and more like hell. He couldn't contain all of his pain, and he let it out in silent tears. He liked it when it rained, then no one knew he had been crying, because all of his fur was wet and and clung to his body. He looked at his paws when the light began to creep over the horizon and through the clouds. Darkfrost looked up to see the sun shining through with hope that the storm would end soon, but Darkfrost knew better than to trust the sun, the sun only meant more work, and more torment. He hated the sun now, when he had relished it so long ago. His guards got up and came over to him. One of them, Badgersun began to unfasten the ivy around his neck from a tree while the other one, Finchfoot watched him. Finchfoot was one of the kinder guards, who would give him little smiles and not tug on the ivy to hard. He watched the sun rise. "It's your lucky day Darkfrost, you get a day off from work.", the dust colored warrior meowed. "How come?", he asked with no emotion whatsoever. Badger sun came around with the ivy tendril in his mouth, he placed it down and put a paw on it. That was unnecessary. It's not like he had anywhere to go. "Cinderbell's kits are being made Apprentices. Fawnshadow said you could watch, from a distance of course.", Finchfoot said with a smile. Darkfrost smiled. "I should thank her the next time I see her", he said as he gazed at the two warriors with his icy blue eyes. Finchfoot nodded and looked back at the sun. Badgersun looked atound uneasily. Darkfrost glanced at him. "What wrong with you?", he said his blue gaze exquisite. The large warrior glared at him. "Who said you could talk?", the black name dwhite tom snarled. Dakrfrost shrugged and went back to looking at his paws. He scowled as a cat who had always twisted Darkfrost's tail padded up. "Hey Finchfoot, Badgersun, Darkfrost", he said cheerfully putting emphasise on Darkfrost's name. The two warriors nodded in greetings and Darkfrost barley flicked his tail. The silver tabby tom smiled. "What a great day! Kits being made apprentices, my kits due to be born any day now, Lilacfern was so excited when she told me.", Echoheart said innocently. Darkfrost's scowled deepened. Every cat knew he had had a crush on Lilacfern, his heart had been broken when she declared Echoheart as her mate. Echoheart never let him forget that she chose him over Darkfrost. Darkfrost wanted to strangle Echoheart, but if course that would only further worsen his reputation. He put on a fake smile as the tabby tom went on and on about how he was sure his kits would be great warriors like himself. Dakrfrost willed the sun to rise faster so he wouldn't have to listen to Echohearts endless droning. He nearly yowled his praise when Bearstar padded out of his den and called the clan for a clan meeting. Dakrfrost stood up and followed as Badgersun led him to where he would sit for the meeting. He forwned in dissapointment. "This is the worst place to watch a clan meeting.", he complained as Badgersun attached the ivy to another tree. Finchfoot was already padding torwards the rest of the clan. Badger sun smiled. "Prisoners special seating is very hard to come by.", he said patting Darkfrost on the head. The black tabby hissed as the large tom padded off. Dakrfrost scowled but then pricked his ears he fastened his claws into the tree he was toed to and began to climb it, he had just enough length of ivy that he could see over the group of cats and focused in on the one cat in particular, he saw Poppykit staring up at Bearstar. The calico kitten wasn't quite the same size as her lithe sister or her muscular brother, but she had caught up. She had her own graceful gait that showed mercy and love. He wasn't surprised when she became a medicine cat apprentice. When the clan cheered on their names, he cheered the loudest for Poppypaw. He had begun to relax in the rmtrre when suddenly a yak on the ivy almost brought him tumbling down. "Wow, impatient much?", he sighed and climbed down. He plopped on the ground and stood up straight. He used to be a muscular tom like most of the ithefs, but as they had starved him for so long, he had begone to use his own muscle for nutrients. He was now lithe and agile, and lean. He was sure he could run as a fast as a rabbit if we're able to. He followed his guards as they took a large semi circle around the group of cats. He stopped in his tracks when Poppypaw came padding up to him. Darkfrost smiled. "Hello Medicine cat apprentice.", he said. She laughed and nuzzled him. "Hello Darkfrost, up to your tricks and antics again?", she asked. By now they had told her the truth she was angry not at him. But at the fact that they had lied to her, she didn't believe he killed shellpaw, and voiced her opinion whenever she could. She knew he did everything he could to ruffle everyone's fur the wrong way and joked with him about it. Darkfrost flashed her a smile, even though she couldn't see it. "You know it.", he said. She blew the fur that covered his eye out of his face and stepped back peering at his face. "I'm imagining your eyes are green today.", she said. Badgersun cleared his throat and finchfoot mumbled that they had to go see Fawnshadow. Poppypaw smiled. She licked his cheek. "Goodbye Troublemaker.", she said and padded to the medicine den. He smiled and turned. Finchfoot was grinning wildly and Badgersun was looking at him as if Darkfrost  had just tried to mate with his daughter. Darkfrost scowled. "What?! Come on Fawnshadow is probably waiting for us!", he said stomping away, but he couldn't stop the Crimson blush from showing on his cheeks.
Thankfully he had gotten his blush in control before coming up to the deputy. This was his least favorite part of the day. The deputy often hurt him both physically and mentally. He sat down next to her as she basked in the dim sublight. "How are you today Darkfrost?", she asked. "Just peachy", he muttered as he scratched at a tick behind his ear. The fur on his forehead had fallen back down to cover his eye again. Fawnshadow looked at him his two guards. "You two get a few more warriors and go on a hunting patrol.", she said with a flick of her tail. The warriors nodded and bounded across camp. Darkfrost smirked. "Sure you want to be alone with me, deputy?"  He said with narrowed eyes. Fawnshadow matched his expression. "You seen to be forgetting I twas eye you gave you a good beating. Would you like me to jog your memory?", she said unsheathed her claws. His eyes widened. Fawnshadow was the only one who could put fear in his eyes. He wiped the look off his face and licked his chest fur. "I'm good. I remember perfectly fine.", he said frantically. "That's what I thought.", she said with a smug grin. He hated that grin. She kicked him in the leg he had injured yesterday. He yelped in pain, hardly a sound he had ever wanted to escape. He put a paw on the leg. "Watch it it's still sore there!", he hissed. Fawnshadow smiled. "I'm sorry I forgot all about your accident.", she said. Darkfrost looked around. "Can I go? What if I moved those rocks around or just watched the prey pile so it dosn't run away?", he just wanted to leave her. Fawnshadow nodded. You can walk around, you could go see of Honeygaze or Poppypaw need any help.", she said happy to have him gone too. He smiled and padded over to the medicine den, the ivy tendril trailing behind him. He was yanked back by a paw stepping on the tendril. He weezed as he looked up to see Branchlight standing on the tendril. "Where you going?", he asked. Darkfrost didn't answer. Waspnettle pinned him down pushing his muzzle into the dirt, "He asked you a question", he snarled. Darkfrost didn't answer again. Waspnettle frowned "He won't answer, wonder why!", he laughed as he ground his face into the dirt even more. Darkfrost squeezed his eyes shut. Then he heard Poppypaw hissing. Waspnettle got off of him Nad Darkfrost stood up. Poppypaw hissed again. "I requested for him to come help me and Honeygaze with the herb storage! You two stop tormenting him, he's coming to do his job.", she growled the two toms left. Dakrfrost coughed and a cloud of dust formed around him causing him to cough more. "Oh you poor thing", she grabbed the ivy tendril and led him into the den. He tried to hold in his coughs so he didn't create a clue of dust in the den. He sat down and Poppypaw set the tendril near his paws, he began to clean his muzzle and she came up to him "Here you go", she said pushing a ball of Moss soaked in water towards him, he lapped at it and felt the dirt wash off his toungue.  he coughed once more but was relieved to see he wasn't creating a cloud of dust anymore. Poppypaw smiled. "Here eat this", she said pushing a small herb towards him. Darkfrost sniffed it. "What is that?", he asked. "Yarrow",she replied. "Why should I eat it?"  He said glancing at the green herb. "You need to get the girt out of your system, yarrow will make you vomit.", she  said matter-of-factly. Darkfrost shrugged and licked up the herb and began chewing it. He gagged. "Oh that's disgusting.", he whined. Then he coughed up several clumps of dirt. Poppypaw laughed. "Your as whiny as a kit!", she exclaimed pushing the soaked Moss towards him. "When your outsmarted by a cat who's 6 moons old you will be pretty whiny."  He said after lapping up a few drops of water. Poppypaw laughed some more. She began sorting through. Some herbs waving him over. He padded up to her side. "Just so we don't have any warriors on our tails and you don't have a very close relationship with the dirt, you can help me sort through these herbs until Honeygaze gets back.", she said calmly. Dakrfrost looked at all of the herbs in front of him. He tried to find the one called yarrow but they all looked the same to him. "So what is this?", he said pointing to a stem with yellow flowers. "That's marigold.", she said as she continued her work. Darkfrost tilted his head in confusion, but picked the flowers that looked the closest to the marigold and placed them in a pile slowly, very slowly. Poppypaw had finished well before him and had begun to work on his side. Darkfrost had begun to feel lightheaded after a while. So many overwhelming scents all trying to get over his scent glands. He had gotten very dizzy when Honeygaze came in. Darkfrost nodded to her and licked Poppypaw on the ear before leaving. Breathing in the fresh air. He padded over to a patch of sun and layed down.
