Chapter 3
Darkfrost had woken up in the alcove the next morning. Still irritated that they didn't trust him enough to let him out at night. He waited patiently for Fawnshadow to let him out. But she never did. He scowled. "Hey, Sagefeather, why can't I get out?" He asked as she came to sit next to his alcove. "Because Branchlight saw you talking to Poppykit. He told Fawnshadow.", she said with a hint of if resentment in her tone. He couldn't tell if it was meant for him or for Branchlight. He scowled more. "That's absurd, I brought her back to the nursery so that she wouldn't get in trouble or go out if camp.", he grumbled. Sagefeather shrugged. "There are rules for a reason", she said quietly. Darkfrost sighed. "You don't really believe that I killed Shellpaw, do you?", he asked desperatly. Sagefeather looked down at her paws. "I don't know what to believe Darkfrost, Seastorm told us not to listen to your lies, and you do have a temper..", she said uneasily. Darkfrost scowled. "Then your no better than the rest", he said angrily. Sagefeather frowned and turned back around. Darkfrost watched as dark clouds covered the sky. They reflected his mood. Why had the fact that he talked to a kit been so bad? she was still alive if they thought he was going to kill her. He bristled and scowled. Large drops began to fall from the sky. Sagefeather, With a nod from Fawnshadow went off to stay dry in the warriors den. Darkfrost saw Honeygaze walk up to her and then head to the elders den. He watched as the small medicine cat rushed out and rushed in with herbs. he heard loud coughing. Darkfrost jumped up and anxiously hissed. "Fawnshadow! What is happening??", he called. The tabby deputy padded up to him with a solemn look in her eyes. "Sunlilly has Whitecough.", She said quietly. Darkfrost felt all of his complaints fall off a cliff. "I have to see her!", he exclaimed, tryin to push away the thorn barrier, the thorms pricking the scar on his cheek. Fawnshadow hooked her claws on the barrier preventing it from moving. "You're not allowed."< she said feircly. Darkfrost protested. "I have to see her!", he said more viciously this time and with all of his strength he shoved the barrier away. Fawnshadow had to bound across camp to not be crushed. darkfrost took this to his advantage. He dragged the thron barrier to the elders den and used It to block the entrance from the outside. he spun around and saw a bristling Seastorm and a weak Sunlilly, Honeygaze cowering behind them. "What are you doing in here?!", Seastorm snarled. "I had to see my mother!", he hissed. his fur bristling he saw the fear in his mothers eyes. He stopped when he realized she was afraid of him. Tears threatened to spill over. "All my life I was never good enough.", he said quietly. He was aware of several cats trying to get through the barrier. "I was never good enough to any one. No one appreciated me. Then Shellpaw was born. He appreciated me, he loved me. He cared about, and he looked up to me. I loved him. And then he was killed. And everyone blamed it on me! You blamed it on me!", he shouted at his father. Tears spilling from his eyes. "You are my father. I always wanted to make you proud, but I was never good enough. And then Shellpaw died. And you treated me like a scrap of prey. You treated me like I was worthless and that I was evil. No one believed me not even my own father. Why don't you like me? Hmm? What did I do to deserve this much hate from you!?", Darkfrost asked. His fur bristling and tears streaming from his eyes. Seastorm glared at him. "You were never my son, you were a rougue kit I found and Sunlilly begged me to take you in, she had just had branchlight, I would have left you to fend for yourself if it weren't for Sunlily. I never lived you as a son, because you never were my son.", the grey tom said viciousley. His words slicing through Darkfrost. He choked on his words. He was nothing more than a rougue. He had never been clan born. "My blood. You hated me because of my boood. Because I'm not pure clan cat.", Darkfrost screeched. He wanted so badly to hurl himself at the grey tom and rip him to shreds, for tormenting him so long, and it all came down to him not being clanborn. He seethed. Suddenly Fawnshadow and Branchlight broke through the barrier and Fawnshadow sunk her claws into his hauches. She dragged home out of the den and Branchlight stayed in there. Fawnshadow snarled at Darkfrost as he laid there limply. Fawnshadow had him pinned. He watched as Branchlight stepped out, signalling that everything was alright. Honey gaze rushed out and then back in, continuing her work. Darkfrost simply lied there. Tears were still falling down his cheeks as several cats surrounded him. He didn't look at their faces. The rising lump in his throat and the weight of everything he had just learned made it difficult to breathe. He willed himself to stop breathing, so he could go to starclan and see his brother again. But then he saw a little calico kit with blind green eyes watching him so intently it was like she could see him. He smiled slightly and fought the urge to give up and continued to breathe for another day.
