I stood in front of my closet, tapping my foot impatiently. I didn't have anything good to wear on a date. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. Why was I getting all excited anyways? It's not like I liked Hudson or anything. He was just a friend. It was a casual date.
"Yeah, casual date," I muttered out loud, frowning as I went through my shirts for the fifth time.
In the end I finally decided on a pair of faded blue jeans and a blue plaid shirt with a white tank top underneath. I kept the plaid shirt unbuttoned and brushed my hair out. There was only ten minutes until Hudson came over to pick me up to go to the mall. I quickly applied some light make-up and grabbed my wallet.
Just as I finished putting on my shoes the bell rang. I hurried to the door, checking my reflection in the mirror once more. I opened the door to see Hudson, and he eyed me up and down. I felt a little self-conscious and blushed slightly.
"What?" I demanded.
"We're matching!"
I stared at him in confusion for a few moments until I realized he was talking about our clothing. He was wearing a blue plaid shirt with a white tank top and blue jeans as well. His shirts and pants were a darker blue though. But the color really brought out his eyes.
I laughed too and raised my eyes back to him. That's when I noticed that his hair was wavy and brown. "Hudson... you're hair!"
Hudson grinned at me. "I thought I could use a change. The black wasn't really working out for me."
"It, er, looks nice," I told him awkwardly.
"Thanks," he responded with a wink. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah, let's go- oh wait!"
"What?"
I held up a finger as I rushed back to my bedroom. I went to my desk and grabbed a small silver chain off the desk and hurried back to my front door. I locked and shut the door behind me and dug my hand into my pocket. When I located the small glass bird Hudson gave me I put the chain through a small hole I had made on the wing.
"I made it into a necklace," I told Hudson, now attempting to put it around my neck without getting it caught in my hair.
Hudson laughed. "I can tell. That's a good idea. Just make sure you don't lose it."
"I know," I responded, bringing the chain back around to my front so I could press the clasp back down and I tried once more to put it on. "Why is it so important?"
"Never mind that," Hudson responded quickly. "Let me help you with that."
He took the chain out of my hands and pushed my hair over one shoulder. He wrapped the necklace around my neck and clasped it for me. I pulled on it to make sure it stayed and when I was satisfied that it wouldn't fall off, I let it rest on my chest.
Hudson checked his watch and clicked his tongue. "We're going to be late. Let's go." He grabbed my shoulder and began pushing me towards the apartment complex parking lot.
"Late for what?"
"Never mind."
I sighed. "I'm getting tired of your secrecy."
"Take a nap then."
"Haha," I responded, rolling my eyes. "Aren't you funny?"
"Yes, yes I am," Hudson agreed with a wink.
I rolled my eyes again and Hudson unlocked the passenger door for me. I slid in and put on my seatbelt as Hudson got in the drivers side.
"Seatbelt," I ordered when he started the car and shifted it into reverse without putting his seatbelt on.
"I don't need a seat belt."
"Put it on."
"Don't want to," Hudson responded, sticking his tongue out.
I clenched my fists. Now I knew it was impossible to like-like this guy. He was so immature! Why couldn't he just put the seatbelt on? It was for his own safety! I crossed my arms and looked out the window. "You're such a child."
"Coming from someone two years younger than me."
I heard a click and I turned back to Hudson. He pointed at his now buckled seat belt.
"Happy now?"
"Yes."
Hudson chuckled as he pulled out of the parking lot. As soon as we were on the road he opened the windows and turned on the radio. A familiar song came blasting from the speakers, scaring the crap out of me. Hudson quickly turned the volume down and grinned at me sheepishly.
"Sorry! I like my music loud!"
"You listen to My Chemical Romance?"
Hudson nodded his head. "Love them."
"What genre music do you like?"
Hudson shrugged. "I like most genres. I'm not a huge fan of rap though. Some songs are okay. I'm mostly into Pop, Rock and Hardcore or Post."
"Same here!" I told him, grinning. "Do you like country?"
"Not really," he admitted.
"Me either! But I like Taylor Swift."
"Ew. You like that tear drops song?"
I frowned at him. "No. I don't like her slow songs. Just her pop-ish ones."
Hudson nodded and the song changed. Another familiar song came on.
"Not Good Enough For Truth In Cliché?"
Hudson winked at me. "Nobody can not like this song."
I laughed and nodded. "Agreed."
Hudson checked his mirrors and made a sharp right, sending me into the car door. I rubbed my nose and stared at him. "What the heck?"
"Almost missed the highway!"
I looked out the window and I noticed we were indeed now on the highway. We were slowly picking up speed and soon we began passing other cars.
"Hudson!" I shouted, looking at the speed dial. "You're going twenty miles over the speed limit!"
"Calm down!" he laughed, waving his hand at me.
"Both hands on the steering wheel!" I ordered.
"You're such a stickler for rules in driving," he muttered, placing his hand back on. He slowed until he was only ten miles over the speed limit. "Happy?"
I scowled at him. "Whatever."
"Oh, come on!" he groaned. "Have a little fun. Relax yourself!"
"I don't want to die!" I told him.
Hudson shook his head. "We aren't going to die. Remember? I can't die yet."
"You may not be able to die, but I can!"
Hudson went silent and frowned for a minute after that. He scratched his head and laughed once. "That's right..."
He finally slowed to the speed limit and I sighed, leaning back in my seat. He was lucky no cops were around. I looked out the window at all the shops, houses and cars passing by us. Before I knew it we were at the mall.
"Holy crap," I started, looking at the size of it as Hudson looked for a parking spot. "It's so huge!"
"That's what she said."
I rolled my eyes as he laughed at his own joke. He pulled into a parking lot near one of the malls entrance and rolled up the windows. We got out and he locked the doors behind us. I attempted to look in the side-view mirror but Hudson pulled me away, grabbing my elbow and tugging me towards the entrance of the mall.
"Hey! I want to check my hair," I complained, trying to go back.
"Nope. It looks fine."
"I don't trust you."
Hudson shrugged and towed me into the mall. I narrowed my eyes suspiciously at him.
"Can I go to the bathroom?"
"No."
"Hmm..." I tapped my chin. "Oh I get it."
"Get what?" Hudson asked, stopping and looking at me.
"We aren't really on a date, right?"
Hudson pretended to look confused and I rolled my eyes. I ripped my arm out of his grasp and headed towards the bathroom.
"Where are you going?" Hudson called after me, and I heard footsteps behind me.
I crossed my arms and frowned at him. "If we're going to stop this disaster, then I want to get an idea of what it's about."
"Heh..." Hudson grinned sheepishly and scratched his head. "Sorry, Willow. I didn't mean to trick you. I just thought that if I told you I needed help with it, you wouldn't come."
I sighed. I should have figured it wasn't a date. Hudson grinned.
"Oh? You wanted it to be a date?"
"No," I snapped at him quickly.
"Sure," he responded skeptically. "Well go to the bathroom if you must."
I scowled at him for a second before stomping off to the bathroom. It was a good thing that I hadn't dressed up. It wasn't even a date! I should have guessed that from the beginning. There was no way Hudson would like me. I didn't even like him like that!
I opened the bathroom door and to my luck, no one was in there. I located the mirrors and shut my eyes before going over. I took a deep breath and opened them. Immediately, I was engulfed in a vision.
I looked around and frowned. Everything was normal. No one was screaming; no one was running in a panic. Nothing. I walked around the area I was in. Was there even a prediction? I walked up to a person and checked their watch. Whatever was going to happen, if there was something, was going to occur at five o' clock.
I checked my watch. It was four thirty now. Only half an hour left. I stood up and began to explore. Maybe my vision put me in the wrong spot. After a few moments of exploring I clicked my tongue and returned to where I started. Nothing was happening and the vision wasn't ending.
I sat down on one of the benches, trying to decipher what was happening. My visions couldn't be wrong, could they? They've never malfunctioned so why...
That's when I heard it: A quiet ticking. I jumped up and looked under the bench. The ticking got louder, but I couldn't see anything. I frowned. What was that mysterious ticking noise? I pressed my ear to the floor and I could hear it loud and clear. But the question was; what was it?
Suddenly, I was blasted away, a surprised shriek escaping my mouth as my vision was filled with a blinding light. I hit the glass of a store and went straight through it. The heat was immense, I felt like I was on fire, except it didn't hurt. I started sweating profusely as I climbed to my feet, sweeping glass off of me.
What was that? All around me was fire and destruction. I panted as I made my way to the source of the explosion. A giant hole was now where the bench had been moments before. I looked down and saw some mangled pipes and metal, and a small, melted, metal box.
I gasped when it hit me. A bomb.
A second explosion knocked me off my feet once more and I was thrust out of my vision. I found myself falling in real life. My head a few inches away from the porcelain sink. "Shit!"
I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and stop my head from banging into the sink with seconds to spare. "Gotcha!"
I looked up to see Hudson letting out a sigh of relief. He placed me upright and I staggered for a moment, still stunned by the vision. I felt sweat running down my face. I spaced out for a second. It had to be a very destructive force to have caused this from a vision. I could almost actually feel burns on my arms.
"Willow? Willow! Are you okay?" Hudson asked, shaking me slightly.
"I'm fine."
"Did the visions do this to you? What happened?"
"Explosions," I told him, wiping sweat of my face. "Hudson- bomb!"
"I know," he responded, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out pictures.
All four of them showed people burning, and fires everywhere. The ripped photograph had the giant hole where the bombs were on it.
"There's a bomb planted here. But I don't know what bench it was. We have until seven to find it..."
"Seven?" I repeated, staring at him. "No, it's at five!"
Hudson eyes widened and he stared at me in shock. "No, the time on the clock-"
"No! Hudson that's wrong! The clock in my vision said five! The bombs will explode at five!"
"Shit! Wait, bombs?"
"You didn't know there were two?" I asked with a gasp.
"Shit!" he swore again, stuffing his photos back into the back pocket. "Shit! Let's go, Willow!"
