:Darker Than Black: [Chapter: 6] //An Original Story//

lol. I used the phrase "fist of fury" in this chapter. I was re-reading it and I just burst out laughing, all though me and my friends are watching this really sad like soap-opera type of movie. but it's really like good acting, not crap like real soap operas. But it's really sad. They had to leave a dog behind, and the second time they left two kittens behind. I don't care that the mom got taken away by the cops. But leaving the poor animals... it almost made me cry haha. And then the kids got separated ): The cops split them... uh, i'll just stop lol.

I'm a huge animal lover haha.

Here's chapter six :D Enjoy! Comment, vote :D

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

It was dull and grey outside when I awoke. I frowned slightly, but hey. At least it wasn't raining again. I sprang from my bed and my head started to pound. I grimaced and tried to calm it. It was just my luck. I would get a headache on an important day like today. Ignoring it, I started to get ready. I would save the shower until tonight, since I didn't know how dirty I would be getting today.

I was out the door in record time. As I was shutting mine, Hudson was opening his. I stared at him for a moment before nodding a greeting and hurrying down the stairs. I heard him running after me and I didn't slow down.

"Why don't we go together today?" he offered.

"No, thank you."

"You might get lost."

"I'm going to break this prediction myself," I told him, pursing my lips. "I don't want any help from you."

Hudson smirked. "There's no way. You've spent two days searching and still haven't found the house."

"Are you saying you found it then?" I demanded, scowling at him.

"Who knows?" he responded with a shrug.

"Hudson!"

"See you!" he called, vaulting himself over the edge of the balcony.

"Hudson!" I cried again, leaning over to see if he was okay.

He grinned at me from below and waved, before taking off down the street. I scowled after him and hurried down the steps. I had to find the house before him and stop the arsonist.

I looked at my watch. It was noon. That meant I had about four hours to find that house. I started down the street in the way Hudson went. I had searched the other way thoroughly enough yesterday. Shivers ran down my spine and I pulled my coat tighter around me. It was cold again today.

I soon came to a street I hadn't explored yet and started down it. It was full of apartments. I frowned slightly. It was a house I was looking for, not an apartment. I checked my watch again. I had only been searching for a half an hour. There was still plenty of time left.

To my luck, the apartments soon became houses. I walked along the sidewalk, politely greeting whoever walked by me. It was usually a person walking a dog, or someone jogging. I felt stupid for walking alone. I probably looked lost as well.

At one o'clock I came to another park. I sat down on one of the benches and leaned back, resting my eyes. I had to think. I hadn't seen a yellow house once yet, but there had to be that house somewhere. Or was my vision was wrong?

No, that was impossible. Every time before they always came true, and just because it had been awhile, didn't mean that they had deteriorated. I was positive that my vision was correct. I just wasn't a very lucky person.

"Hmm. I believe this is the second time I've met you in a park."

I didn't have to open my eyes to know it was Hudson. "What do you want?"

"To see how your progress is going."

"It's going fine, thank you," I responded, now opening my eyes and sitting up. "What about you."

"It's going fine," he responded with a small smile. "Better than yours I bet."

"We'll see about that."

Hudson chuckled. "You seem pretty confident."

"I am," I lied. "More confiden-" I paused to sneeze once, and once more.

"Bless you," Hudson said, looking amused. "You aren't sick are you?"

"Of course not," I responded stubbornly. "Just an itch in the nose."

"Right. Well then, I'll be on my way. You can call me if you need some help or something," Hudson informed me, waving his cell phone.

"I don't need help. But that reminds me, how did you get my number, and why do I have yours?"

"The day you fell asleep I took your cell phone and programmed it in just in case something happened like yesterday. Aren't I such a caring guy?" Hudson answered with a wink.

"Stalker-ish is more like it," I muttered, rolling my eyes.

Hudson let out a bark of laughter. "See you later, Willow."

"Call me by my first name like a normal person!" I shouted at him as he began to run away.

"Nope!"

"Ugh." I rubbed my hands over my face. He was so frustrating.

I stood up once again, my incentive renewed. I had to beat Hudson to that house and save those people before him. I had to prove I could do this by myself, without his help. I readjusted my coat and set off once more.

Time seemed to have sped up as I left the park. My strong incentive before had dwindled to a want to give up. The only thing compelling me forward was the thought that I needed to stop the arsonist before he killed innocent people.

At three o' clock I was beginning to panic. I didn't know where I was again, and I still couldn't find the house I was supposed to be looking for. I pulled out my phone and stared at it thoughtfully. For a moment I wanted to call Hudson and ask for help, but my pride wouldn't allow it.

I shoved my phone back into my pocket. I could do it myself. I had little less than one hour. I began to jog down the street, speeding up a little by little until I was flat out running. That house had to be somewhere around this section of town. I had looked at a town map, and it wasn't such a big place.

I came to a set of stairs and jogged up them, becoming a little breathless at the top. I stopped for a second, trying to catch my breath. Only half an hour left. I turned to the right and bumped into somebody, the force nearly knocking me over.

"Sorry," I apologized, looking up at the person I ran into.

Shock and terror coursed through my veins at the sight of him. It was the same guy who had tackled me in the park yesterday! He looked down and looked slightly surprised. I figured he recognized me too, without a second's hesitation I bolted around him and down the street, not looking back once.

When I was a safe distance away I turned and couldn't see him. Wherever he was going, he sure seemed to be in a hurry. I pursed my lips. His familiarity was striking. Why couldn't I remember where I had seen him before? Was he from where I lived before? Or maybe someone I saw my first day here? No, that didn't seem right to me. He seemed like someone I thought was important.

My cell phone went off and I jumped. I pulled it out and looked at it. It was a text message for Hudson. I ignored it and checked the time. Three forty five. I had fifteen minutes to find that house and stop the arsonist.

I gasped as realization swept over me. I knew where I had seen that man before! He was the arsonist! He must have been in a hurry to get to that house! I spun on my heel and began to sprint in the direction he was going.

Now I knew the general direction. With my adrenaline allowing me to sprint faster than I could before, I raced against the clock. I hurried down the street, dodging people walking by me, and apologizing if I bumped into them.

Ten minutes remaining.

I skidded to a halt when I came to a four way stop. My eyes widened and despair swept through me. Which way should I go? I didn't have that much time. I checked my watch again. I had five minutes to get to the house. I looked around wildly. I had to chose randomly and hope I was right.

After a moments hesitation I bolted to the left. I only had once shot, and I prayed I had chosen the right way. A ran full speed down the street, keeping my eyes peeled for a yellow house. In the distance I saw a yellow house with brown shutters. My heart began to beat faster as I grew closer.

Three minutes remaining.

I was only two houses away now and could see the giant star on the front of it. I urged myself to go faster and my feet pounded against the tar road as I arrived at the house. Gasping and panting I ran around to the side in time to see the arsonist holding the can of gasoline towards the house, his finger on the lighter.

"Wait!" I screamed as I stumbled towards him, hoping all my efforts weren't for naught.

Suddenly my hands flew out in front of me and I fell, landing on my face in the grass. I knew it was over. The arsonist had won. I hadn't made it in time. I slowly pushed myself off the ground to see the house starting to catch on fire.

To my surprise however, the arsonist was staring right at me, his arms limp, the house perfectly safe.

"You," he growled, glaring at me. "How did you know...?"

Still out of breath, I staggered towards him, my hands in fists, ready to fight. I had beat Hudson, and I had to figure out how to stop this guy. I hadn't really planned ahead. I hated to admit it, but I really thought Hudson would already be here; bragging about how he had broke the prediction.

Before I knew what was happening he struck at me. I gasped and ducked just in time to narrowly avoid his fist of fury. He swung again and I ducked to the left, his skin barely grazing my nose. I stumbled backwards as he kept swinging at me.

After a swing and a miss by him, I brought out my own fist, landing one hard on his chest. I smirked, waiting for him to stagger backwards but my smirk slowly slid off my face when I realized I hadn't done any damage to him at all. He grasped my fist in his hand and began to squeeze it.

I cried out in pain, trying to pull it back. "Let go! You'll break my hand!"

"Then don't interfere!" he growled, backhanding me.

I fell to the ground from the force and the arsonist ran to the front of the house. For a moment I stayed on the ground slightly dazed, but pulled myself out of it. What was going to happen now? I clamored to my feet and headed after the arsonist. When I came around to the right side of the house I gasped.

This was what I saw in my vision, not the other side.

"Oh no," I moaned, stretching out a hand as the arsonist leered at me, swiping his thumb down the latch on the lighter.

I shut my eyes. I had failed. Even though I had thought I stopped it, I was wrong. How could I have messed that up? I remembered now. There was a window on the side he was going to light on fire. The side where I had stopped him didn't have a window.

There was a shout of pain and my eyes snapped open.

"H-Hudson!"

"Yo," he grinned at me, his foot on top of the arsonist, the can of gasoline and lighter in his hand.

"When did you get here?" I asked, slowly walking towards him.

Hudson put a hand on his face and thought for a moment. "Well about half an hour ago. But I didn't expect him to go on the other side first, so when I heard you scream I went to investigate. But it took me awhile to climb down from that tree." He pointed to a tree behind me. "I had an awesome plan of jumping down and stopping him, but as I said before I didn't predict he would try the other side first. So after he knocked you down, by the way, sorry I didn't help you." He gave me a half smile.

"It's okay," I told him, half smiling back.

"Okay. Well anyways, after he slugged you I hurried back around to this side and bam! I got him just in time."

I shook my head disbelieving me. "You only had photos. How did you know there was an arsonist?"

Hudson smiled slightly. "I've been doing this for awhile. To be honest, I found this house Friday night."

"How?" I gasped.

"Willow, if you can't do something like finding a house in time, when you had two days to do it, you aren't cut out for trying to stop something like this," Hudson told me, shrugging.

"But I-"

Hudson frowned at me. "I just need you to give me your predictions. Let me do all the figuring out."

I glared at him. "That' not..." I trailed off as a wave of dizziness swept over me. I staggered for a moment and than steadied myself.

"Willow? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," I tried to say with force, but it came out as barely a whisper as dizziness washed over me and I fell onto my knees.

"Willow!"

I tried to push myself off the ground as my vision blurred. I felt Hudson's hand at my forehead as I tried to catch the breath I couldn't seem to regain.

"You have a fever."

"I'm fine," I panted, swiping his hand away.

"No you're not."

I closed my eyes, and struggled to pull myself away from the dizziness before it consumed me. After a second I gave up the struggle and my world turned dark.
