The shrill ringing of my alarm clock made me bolt up in bed. I fiddled around for a second until I managed to slam my hand down on it. I slid out of bed and into the bathroom to shower. After I dried my hair and threw on some clothing I smoothed out my hair, hoping it looked okay. There were no mirrors in my house.

As soon as I slid my backpack over my shoulders I heard a knock at the door. I raised an eyebrow. Why would someone be knocking at my door? I didn't know anyone here yet. I walked over to it and opened it. As soon as I saw familiar black hair I slammed the door in his face.

"Hey!" he called through the door. "Don't you want to walk to school together?"

"No," I responded, standing in front of my door.

"Why not?"

"I don't know you!"

"My name is Hudson Matthews. "

I stayed silent.

"What's your name?" he asked.

I sighed and gave in, opening the door again. "Emmery Willow."

"As in the weeping tree? What? Did you cry a lot when you were a kid?"

I gave him a sarcastic look and started marching down the stairs and onto the street. I turned left and strode down the street at a fast pace.

"Hey, I was just kidding!"

I ignored him.

"You're going the wrong way."

I paused and turned around. "I am?"

"Follow me, Willow." He turned around and marched back down the street in the direction we had come from.

"Fine," I responded, following him down the street.

After a few minutes of silence curiosity got the best of me. "How did you know that car was going to crash into me yesterday?" I asked, looking up at the strange man.

Hudson looked over his shoulder, speeding up slightly. "I didn't know."

I narrowed my eyes, matching his pace. "Yes, you must have known. There was no way you could not have known. It happened in a split second."

Hudson shrugged. "I guess I was lucky."

I grit my teeth together. This guy was obviously hiding something. "But you even drew the exact square where the car stopped."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Hudson responded, cocking an eyebrow. "Are you feeling okay?"

"I'm feeling fine!" I snapped, crossing my arms. "You helped me! You knew that car was coming!"

"You're crazy. How could I?"

"I have no clue, but how else could you have saved me? There was a split second after we heard the car and the impact of it. And you drew that square around the exact place where the car was!" I explained to him, now starting to run to keep up with his quick stride.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" he responded, full out sprinting now.

"Why are you running away then?" I shouted after him, doing my best to keep up with him.

"I just don't want to be late!" he called over his shoulder.

"Stop! Liar! Get back here!" I screamed, my feet pounding on the sidewalk.

He was a lot faster than me; he turned a corner and vanished from my sight. I urged myself to go faster, panting. When I turned the corner I stopped, coming face to face with a school building. Many students were milling around the courtyard and entrance.

I started walking slowly, looking for Hudson. Where did he disappear to? There was the sound of the bell and all the students began filing into the building. I followed the crowds, my eyes peeled for Hudson.

After a few moments of being unable to locate him, I gave up. I sighed and entered the school building. I would just have to talk to him after school, after all he was my neighbor, so it wouldn't be hard to find him.

I asked for directions for the office and went there, getting my schedule and homeroom. The first half of the day went by fast and I managed to make a few friends. But Hudson was still on my mind. I kept a lookout for him in the halls while changing classes.

The lunch bell rang and I followed a girl I had met, Haley, to the lunchroom. It was packed with students from all grades. We went through the lunch line and sat down at a table. Haley introduced me to her friends who greeted me warmly. Soon they were in a deep discussion about something that happened and I was offering input, not really noticing what we were talking about.

Haley was more focused on her food then the conversation so I turned to her.

"So," I started and she looked up at me, swallowing the food that was currently in her mouth.

"Yeah?" she responded, setting down her fork.

"Is there a guy named Hudson at this school?"

She nodded. "A few, why?"

"Is there one who's tall... with dyed black hair?" I continued, trying to think of the best way to describe him. "He's got the whole scene look going on."

Haley's eyes slightly widened. "Hudson Mathews?"

"That's the one!"

"Why do you want to know about him? Do you know him or something?"

"Well I met him yesterday," I explained, saving the details. "I just wanted to find him again."

"Trust me," a new girl with brown hair pitched in, shaking her head. "You want to stay away from him."

"Why is that?" I asked, turning to the brunette.

"That guy is a delinquent. He's usually somehow involved with all the bad things that happen around here."

"Like?"

"Accidents and robberies and stuff like that," the brunette explained.

"Yeah," Haley started, nodding. "He's not the one who does it, but he's always there and involved somehow. He also always gets hurt. He's got a new injury pretty much every day."

"Hmm," I murmured, pursing my lips. He was always involved in accidents? Like yesterday? Was it coincidence? Or did he know something was going to happen? There was definitely something weird.

"You're not... you're not falling for him, are you?" the brunette questioned, her eyes widening.

"What? No!" I responded, waving my arms in front of me. "Nothing like that! He's just my neighbor so I wanted to learn about him."

"Oh," both Haley and the brunette said together.

"Yeah."

"Well he's in a grade higher then us, but is two years older because he stayed back last year because he was in the hospital a lot," Haley told me, going back to her lunch. "He has bad luck."

"Really," the brunette agreed.

Lunch ended, and the rest of the school passed by easily. When it was let out I was happy to leave. I walked down the steps and back in the direction I had come earlier. What I needed to do today was go down town and buy some furniture. I sighed, scratching my head. My money would be going fast.

I made it back into my apartment and went to my room, dropping off my school stuff. I sighed and grabbed the money from under my bed. My apartment was really bare and boring. The message button was beeping on my phone. I ignored it, it was probably just my mom and I didn't feel like talking to her.

I exited my apartment once again, hesitating only one second to look next door. I would have a chance to see Hudson later. I walked down the steps and to the street. A taxi went by and I waved it down. It pulled in front of me and I got in.

"The downtown area?" I asked more than told the taxi driver. He nodded, so I guessed he understood what I meant.

The ride was short. For being right after school, the downtown was full of people again. It was the same place I had been last night. He pulled over and I got out, handing him the money I owed.

I stretched and looked down the street. To the right was the store that had been destroyed by the car. Caution tape was wrapped around the area. I stared at it for a few moments, recalling what happened. There was something strange about Hudson. He must have known the car was coming. I shook it out of my head. I needed to get some shopping done.

After a few hours of shopping I walked to what looked like a park. I noticed a bench and went and sat down on it, letting out a long breath. Shopping was tiring and I did not enjoy it. But it beat having an empty apartment and it wasn't like it was my money I was spending. I shut my eyes and leaned back.

"What are you doing?"

My eyes snapped open and I say up quickly, almost bashing my head against the other persons. I stared at Hudson as he grinned and waved.

"Hi!"

"What are you doing?" I asked, getting up from the bench.

He scratched the back of his head and laughed. "I asked you that first!"

"What's so funny about it?"

He stopped laughing and shrugged, a grin still in place. "I have no clue. I just laughed."

"Right..."

"Anyways, I see you're doing some shopping?" he asked, pointing to my bags.

"Yeah," I responded. "I want to spice up my apartment.

"Fun."

"Yep."

There was an awkward silence. I stared at him, my face neutral. He stared back, still grinning.

"So about yesterday-" I started but was cut off by him.

"Look! A dog!" he cried, running towards a shape in the distance.

I squinted after him, and looked at the shape. How could he see what that was from here? I started walking towards him and after I was considerably closer I noticed that it actually was a dog.

Hudson didn't slow as he came to the street. I stared disbelievingly after him. Was he really going to run into the middle of the street without stopping?

"Hudson!" I cried as he stepped out into the street, right in front of an incoming car. I squeezed my eyes shut as the breaks of the car squealed.

When there was no scream of pain I opened them. Hudson was on the ground, the car a few feet away from him. I gasped and ran to him, the person in the car getting out.

The little dog Hudson was chasing before was in his arms, happily licking his face. I sighed when I realized Hudson was laughing and playing with the dog.

"Are you stupid?" both the car driver and I demanded at the same time.

Hudson looked between the two of us and grinned. "Nope. I just wanted to play with this dog."

"Kids these days," the driver muttered, going back to his car.

Hudson stood up with the dog and trotted over to me. He held the dog in front of my face and it licked it. I scrunched up my face and stepped away.

"Not a dog person?" Hudson asked, throwing the dog over his shoulder.

"Not really," I admitted, wiping the slobber from my face.

The little dog began to struggle in Hudson's arms and Hudson let it go. It fell to the ground and started running away. Hudson started after it again. I sighed and picked up my bags, following him. Suddenly Hudson tripped and fell on his face. I smirked. My classmates were right; he did have bad luck.

As he stood back up, something fell from his back pocket. It was small and black and he didn't notice. I walked over to it and picked it up, looking at the little booklet curiously. I looked up and noticed Hudson was way ahead of me, still chasing after the little dog.

I started crossing over a bridge and I looked at the water below me. It was moving fast. I stared at it mesmerized for a few seconds before snapping out of it. I looked forwards again and realized Hudson was heading back towards me, the dog in his arms again.

I stared at the black booklet again in my hand and flipped it open. The first page was filled with dates and times. Next to each time and date something was written. I narrowed my eyes when I realized almost everything written was some type of disaster. As I flipped through the pages, the dates started getting closer to present day.

My eyes widened when I found yesterday's date. Next to the date it had the time I was downtown when the car crashed happened. Next to the time, it read: "Car crash at corner of Landon Street and Acrebrook Street. Small black BMW crashes into the convenience store."

"What is this?" I whispered, re-reading it. It was exactly what happened yesterday!

I turned the page and four small things fell down, landing face down on the bridge. I crouched down and picked them up. They were photos. I turned them around and screamed.

Three of the photos had pictures of people with gun wounds in them. A man with a wound to the head, a woman with a wound in the chest, and a child with three wounds over his body.
