:Darker Than Black: [Chapter: 15] //An Original Story//

"Oliver," I called, shaking a bag of cat food. "C'mere, kitty!"

After a few seconds, the little tabby kitten came trotting out from wherever he was hiding and came right over to me. He suddenly jumped on my leg and started crawling up.

"Ow, ow, ow!" I cried as he made his way to my shoulder. "Oliver, how many times do I have to tell you not to do that?"

He meowed in response, pawing at the bag of cat good in my hand. I sighed and grabbed him, pulling him off my shoulder with my free hand and setting him on the ground. I bent over and poured the food into his food dish on the floor. He meowed again and started eating it, purring loudly.

I squatted down to pet him. He pushed against my hand and I smiled. He was such a cute cat. I couldn't really feel his fur because my hands were in bandages. It was really only my wrists that got injured, but when Hudson wrapped them he seemed kind of out of it.

I bit my lip. I really didn't have a good feeling about seeing Hudson. Last night when he was bringing me home, he came in for a moment only to wrap my hands, and left quickly and without a word. I frowned, standing up again. It was weird.

If I ran into him, I didn't know what he would say, but I still had the gut feeling he was going to say something bad if I did see him. I rubbed my temple and sighed. Everything was going so well too.

The good thing was that it was Saturday. That meant I didn't have to go to school and have a chance of running into him. I could just stay in my apartment all day and not answer the door, or sneakily leave and come back. I had to do grocery shopping, so I decided I'd just make it a trip into town.

I went to my desk and pulled out my wallet and stuck it in my pocket. I grabbed my house keys if the key rack and stuffed them into my pocket. I paused for a moment before opening my door a sliver of a crack and peeked out. No Hudson. I was in the clear.

I shut my door fully again and went to put on my shoes. Oliver came over and started attacking my shoelaces playfully. I laughed, but had to shoo him away so I could put it on.

"I'll be back," I said to him, grabbing my coat and heading to the door.

I opened the door and came face to face with Hudson. He raised his eyebrows slightly at me. I stood at the door, my mouth open. Whoops.

"Can I come in?"

"No!" I cried, attempting to shut the door. "You can't!"

Hudson quickly jammed his foot between the door and the frame. I pushed as hard as I could, but I was no match for him. He easily over-powered me and pushed the door open. I backed up, and he squeezed through, shutting the door behind him.

"I was just about to go out," I told him, holding out my coat. "Can we talk later?"

"No."

I frowned the slightest bit. The bad feeling was back, and Hudson looked serious- which he rarely was.

"Want to sit down?" I offered, gesturing to the couch.

"No," Hudson responded, shaking his head. "I have to go stop a prediction."

"Eh? Where?" I asked. "I just bought a mirror, I'll go look-"

"No!" Hudson demanded, the loudness of his voice making me jump. "You don't have to."

"But I want to," I responded, frowning deeper at him.

"It's okay, you were put in a difficult situation yesterday so why don't you rest for awhile?" he suggested.

I laughed. "What? I'm fine. I got my sleep. A little fire like that won't stop me."

"Little fire?" Hudson repeated. "That fire could have burnt down the whole building! If I hadn't came to help you, you would have died!"

"Why are you shouting?" I demanded, taking a slight step away from him. "Even if you didn't come I could have found a way out by myself."

"Liar."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "I'm fine now, so what does it matter?"

"You were almost killed, Willow."

"So? I bet you have been almost killed plenty of times before!"

"It's different with you."

"How so?" I demanded, glaring at him. "I think it's the same."

"Because it would be my fault if you died," he responded, his face impassive. "You're bait."

I stared at him, shaking my head. "Unbelievable. I'm not 'bait' he wants both of us, and there's nothing you nor I can do about how he tries to catch us."

"Sure there is."

"What?"

"Make sure you never stop another prediction again," Hudson told me slowly, walking towards me.

I took a few steps back as he closed in. "You can't just stop me."

"No," Hudson agreed, "but I can do my best."

"Why?" I demanded, bumping into my shelf where the mirror was.

Hudson stopped about a foot in front of me. His arms stretched out on either side of me. He leaned against the wall and put his head on my shoulder.

"Because I don't want to see you ever get hurt."

There was a loud crash and shattering sound that made me jump. Hudson quickly backed away, waving.

"Bye-bye, Willow. Stay out of trouble."

"Hudson! Wait!" I cried stepping over the shattered remains of the mirror he had just placed on the ground. "My mirror!"

"I'll pay," he responded, opening my door.

"Hudson!"

He shut my door and disappeared from view. I glared at the door, biting my lip. Who was he to tell me what I could and couldn't do? I would do what I wanted anyways. I looked at the broken shard of mirror on the floor. Oliver was sniffing them.

"No, Oliver, that will hurt," I told him, squatting down and picking him up. "Do you love me, Oli?"

Oliver meowed, and proceeded to wiggle violently, trying to get out of my grasp. I sighed and let him down. He trotted away, back into my bedroom. I went over to the kitchen and got out the broom and dustpan to pick up the glass.

I started with picking up the big pieces and sliced my finger on one of them. I quickly pulled it away from the glass and sucked on it. I couldn't help my eyes from watering slightly now.

I knew something was going to happen. But why was Hudson suddenly acting like that? Before when we had been in dangerous situations he hadn't acted like that. It wasn't fair. He couldn't decide things on his own.

"That's right," I said out loud. "He can't decide things on his own!"

I scowled and marched over to my door, whipping it open and going over to Hudson's door. I pounded on the door and waited. No answer.

"Hudson! You better open up right now! I'm not done talking to you yet!"

When still nobody answered I continued hammering on the door as hard as I could. I tried the handle, only to find it locked. I went back to pounding on the door. A minute went by, than another. I knew he was there because his car was parked in the driveway.

"Hudson, answer your damn door!" I grunted, shoving against the door with all my might.

The door suddenly opened and I fell forwards, knocking my head on Hudson's chest. I pulled away quickly and rubbed my head, glaring at him.

"What, Willow?"

"What do you mean what? You broke my mirror, and practically ordered to stop breaking predictions? Why?"

"I told you why, Willow."

"That's not a reason, idiot!" I responded, clenching my fists. "We've been in plenty of difficult situations before. Nothing's different now!"

"Yeah, it is."

"How?" I demanded.

Hudson took a deep breath and looked me in the eyes. I stared right back, determined not to look away. Hudson sighed.

"You're being a nuisance, and I really can't take the time to come have to save you. You're just getting in the way."

I blinked in shock. That's not what I expected him to say. I opened my mouth to say something, but suddenly found it dry. I swallowed hard, already feeling tears about to spring to my eyes.

"Goodbye," Hudson said, moving away from the door and closing it.

I stood there for a few seconds, seething with anger and sadness. I glared at the ground, my hands clenched in tight fists. I punched Hudson's door as hard as I could.

"Ow!" I cried, whipping it back quickly and cradling it to my chest.

Why did people punch things when they were angry? It didn't accomplish anything. Except maybe I broken fist. I massaged it and decided on just kicking the door.

"You're so stupid, Hudson."
