Chapter 13- A Faithful Servant (Ava)

Chapter 13 (Ava)

I opened my eyes and stared at my reflection in the mirror. I looked tired; I could tell from the dark circles beneath my eyes. But there was something about my reflection that felt wrong. I saw myself looking proud and confident, but I didn’t feel like that myself. I felt scared and unsure.

I raised my hand up to touch my face, but my reflection didn’t do the same. It just stared at me, unmoving. I watched it for a moment before it moved without me doing anything. It started to walk away.

It was then that I realised I wasn’t looking at a mirror. I was watching someone through a piece of glass. I was watching myself.

The Ava on the other side of the glass carried stopped walking and began to speak. I realised that someone else was on the other side of the glass too. I stepped closer to it and my heart stopped when I realised it was Harry. He was staring at the other Ava in shock and fear as she grabbed onto his arm and started to drag him across the floor. He was talking to her- pleading with her, asking what on earth she was doing. She stopped and turned to him,

“I’m doing what I was asked to do. It’s time for me to complete my job.”

He frowned at the other Ava and I did too. I didn’t understand what was going on.

She continued to drag Harry back to where she’d been originally standing and she stopped. He  opened his mouth to ask her a question again but a set of tall, heavy wooden doors flew open and someone walked in.

It was Lord Voldemort.

All of a sudden, everything clicked into place, and I realised what was going on.

Harry’s eyes widened, and he stood up a little bit taller to show he wasn’t afraid of Lord Voldemort. I felt so proud of him; I wished I wasn’t such a coward.

Voldemort smiled at the other Ava,

“Ah, Ava. You have completed your mission, and I’m certainly glad to see it.”

Harry stared at the other Ava as everything clicked into place for him as well. He tried to take a step back from her, but she tightened her grip on him. Voldemort turned to my brother,

“Now, now Harry. No need to be scared. Your sister has been very useful. Now, I just need to-”

Harry gulped,

“You’re going to kill me, aren’t you?”

Voldemort raised his eyebrows,

“My, my. It didn’t take you too long to guess, did it?”

Harry closed his eyes for a moment, and Voldemort raised his wand,

Crucio!

Harry fell to the floor and I threw myself at the glass panel as he writhed on the floor. I slammed my fists against the glass and started to scream,

“HARRY!”

Lord Voldemort looked at Harry with a smile on his face. He was enjoying it.

I took a step away from the glass and pointed my wand at it,

BOMBARDA MAXIMA!”

The spell hit the glass and an explosion caused me to fall backwards onto the floor. It took me a couple of seconds to get back up, but when I looked at the glass, it was still fully intact.

I threw myself at it again and shouted. Voldemort looked at the other Ava,

“You have been a most faithful servant, Ava.”

She nodded, looking proud. I had to look away from her to stop myself from screaming at her.

Harry cried out in pain and I slammed my fists against the barrier between us. I needed to save him.

Lord Voldemort looked at Harry again as if he was satisfied and took a step closer to his writhing body,

“Goodbye, Harry Potter.”

I screamed as a flash of green light filled the room. Harry’s body stopped moving. He lay on the floor, his eyes staring into nothingness.

I shouted his name over and over, but it was no use.

Lord Voldemort started to speak to the other Ava,

“Thank you. You have served me well.”

All of a sudden, Lord Voldemort’s head turned and he looked right at me as he whispered,

“I can see you’ve chosen the right side to fight on.”

I woke up with a gasp. My body was drenched in sweat, and I could feel my cheeks were wet with tears. I blinked a couple of times, wondering why the dormitory was so bright.

I suddenly realised I wasn't in the dormitory. I was in the hospital wing. I sat up in confusion, looked around and noticed someone sitting next to my bed.

“Harry!”

I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him towards me. I started to sob,

“Harry, are you okay?”

He whispered,

“Hey, why wouldn’t I be okay?”

I gulped and didn’t say anything, just held him even tighter.

“Miss. Potter?”

I pulled away from Harry and looked towards the end of my bed at Professor McGonagall, Dumbledore and Snape. Hermione and Ron were also standing there with Madam Pomfrey.

Professor Dumbledore looked at me,

“Miss. Potter, are you aware of what just happened?”

I shook my head,

“What do you mean?”

Professor McGonagall stepped closer to me,

“A Slytherin student from your dormitory came running to me very late in the night and told me that you were screaming and shouting in your sleep. I informed Professor Dumbledore and we went over straight away. Everything we said to you wouldn’t calm you down. We had to take you to the Hospital Wing. You were in this unchanging state for an hour, even when we called for Mr. Potter, Miss. Granger and Mr. Weasley.”

I took a deep breath and looked down at my hands. Harry leant towards me,

“Were you having a nightmare, Ava?”

My eyes welled up with tears and I nodded silently. He sighed,

“Was it about-”

I shook my head, already knowing what he was going to ask. The nightmare hadn’t been about the night our parents had been killed. I hadn’t had that nightmare in a while.

“What was it about then?”

I looked away from him,

“I can’t…”

Madam Pomfrey saved me by stepping towards me and announcing,

“What Miss. Potter needs right now is rest. You can ask your questions when she has fully recovered. Now is not the ideal time.”

Harry stared at her,

“But-”

“No buts, Mr. Potter! You can visit your sister later on in the day when she has had more rest. How does that sound?”

He nodded reluctantly and stood up,

“I’ll see you later, Ava.”

I nodded,

“Bye. Thanks for sitting here and waiting for me to wake up.”

He shrugged,

“No problem. You’re my sister, after all.”

Professor McGonagall wished me well and left with Snape. Hermione and Ron told me to get some rest and followed Harry out of the hospital wing.

Professor Dumbledore stayed at the end of my bed for a moment, looking at me. After a moment, he smiled,

“Try to recover quickly, Ava. I’ll pay you a visit at the end of the day.”

I returned the smile,

“Thank you, Professor.”

He nodded his head towards me and exited the room. Madam Pomfrey passed me a drink in a glass,

“Drinking some of this potion should make you feel a bit better. Professor Snape had some to spare in his cupboard. Try to sleep for the rest of the day.”

I nodded thankfully and slowly drank the sweet-tasting, fizzy potion. All the while, I was trying not to think about my nightmare. I needed to think of anything apart from my nightmare.

So, even though it hurt, I thought of Fred.
