Alexander pov~

I stared at the papers tucked in the folder for what was at least the twentieth time and fiddled with my scythe. It was my first ghost as a Reaper, and I didn't plan on messing up.

Time of death: 5:38:21pm
Place of death: Ramos Hospital, South Carolina, USA
Cause of death: Car accident
Arrival time: 5:39:21pm

I checked the time on a clock hung somewhere between the branches. Disappointingly, I could pinpoint the time with the pine trees blocking my line of sight. I snapped my fingers and the branches bent so I could see the time.

5:38:10

Ok, he'll die in a few seconds, then it shows take a minute precisely for him to get here. I sighed and looked down at the folder again, pushing my scythe aside because last time I fiddled with it it caught on my hand and, take it from me, that is not pleasant.

5:38:23

He just died.

I focused on the papers again, trying to memorize enough information to know who I'd be taking care of.

Name: John Laurens
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/him/his
Age: 17

About 220 years younger then me, but to humans I present myself as a 19 year old, because I really don't feel like some wisened old 237 year old Reaper (and the comically we can choose our ages). So technically there isn't that much of a age difference.

Birthplace: Ramos Hospital, South Carolina, USA

Died in the same place he was born. Slightly ironic, slightly sad.

Sexual orientation: Proud homosexual

Good, because I'd have Phillip maul him if he was homophobic in any way.

I looked at the clock again, a little nervously.

5:38:54

I turned my attention back to the paper, trying not to freak out. I'd just gotten the official title of 'Reaper' and there's no way I'm going to screw up now.

5:38:54

Ok. Calm down Alexander, just read the thing until he shows up, you can do that right?

I nodded to myself and blocked out my worries, concentrating on the folder in front of me. I consciously slowed my breathing until it stayed at a steady pace.

Then I heard a throat being cleared awkwardly and I looked up. There was a boy standing there, blue eyes concentrated on me. Instinctively, I grabbed my scythe and narrowed my eyes at him, checking the clock.

5:39:16

"You're early." I pointed out, shooting a look at the folder.

"I... am?" He looked at me, eyes flashing with intruige. "I wasn't aware that I had an appointment. Is there a waiting room?"

I let out a little laugh, this was going much better then I'd anticipated. "Oh I like you. No screaming."

"Thanks?" He seemed very confused.

"Come sit down, will you?" I offered, pointing at the chairs in front of my desk. "Is there a setting you'd prefer? I like the forest but you can choose any natural setting. It has to be on Earth though."

I pictured a flower field in my mind and snapped my fingers, and the room shifted so that flowers and tall grass now sprouted instead of pine trees. John looked at the change in wonder and I smirked, snapping my fingers again and seeing the room change into a pumpkin patch with autumn trees around it.

"Ooooh I like this one." He beamed, looking at the trees and taking a seat.

"Ok, now let's discuss the serious matters." I sat down again and placed my head on my wrists and swinging my scythe loosely in my grip because why be formal when you can not being formal. "You're John Laurens, right?"

He furrowed his brow a little. "I'm the flesh."

"Well, John Laurens, do you know why you're here?"

"I'm dead." He said it more like a question.

"Indeed you are." I smiled. "You're gonna be a ghost, and it's my job to show you the ropes."

I stood up and walked over to him leaning on the back of his chair.

"I – we – get one month." I continued to explain. "In one month you should be a proper ghost. And if you're not..." I raised my eyebrows slightly. "It wouldn't turn out great for either of us."

"I just got a promotion, so I'm new at this." I sighed and rested my forehead in my hands. "But I more or less know what I'm doing."

"How did you know my name?" He asked, apparently only realizing now that he'd never told me.

I smiled and grabbed the folder off the table, tossing it onto his lap. He flipped it open questioningly and saw lots of small text, and he seem to recognize it as lots of facts about him.

"This is interesting, who did you get it from?" Laurens asked, looking through the papers.

"My boss, Mr. Washington." I took the folder back and set it on the desk again.

"Cool. What's the scythe for?" He questioned, looking at the metal that glinted in my grasp.

I smirked and tucked it behind my back, indicating that he didn't need to know right now. I shrugged and smiled at him.

"Oh, hey, what's your name?" He asked suddenly.

I turned to face him and made a dramatic bow, taking his hand and kissing it gently. I'm well aware that custom died a quite a lot of years ago (I was there for it), but why not.

"Alexander Hamilton, at your service." I stood up again, grinning.

"Nice to meet you Alexander." He smiled.

"Right back at ya Laurens." I grinned and made finger guns, because, again, why not?

"How old are you...?"

"Two hundred and sixty three in one month, three weeks, four days..." I checked the clock. "Five hours, twenty seven minutes and..." I shot the clock another look. "Forty three seconds."

"You have a thing with being accurate with time." He commented.

I shrugged. "I just like being on time."

"I think it's a little more then that." He raised an eyebrow and I tugged at my sleeves. "Wait, you said two hundred something?"

"Indeed." I paused. "But I guess to you... and me... and my colleagues, I'm maximum nineteen."

"Oh ok." He furrowed by brow a little bit, seeming confused.

"Shall we get going?" I offered him a hand.

"How would we go..?" He looked around the room confusedly.

"Oh. Right." I snapped my fingers and a door appeared behind a pumpkin. I snapped again and the pumpkin moved.

"That snapping thing is cool." Laurens commented.

I smirked and snapped my fingers again, opening a hole right next to his foot. He jumped back in surprise right before his foot slipped in.

"I'm not actually sure how or why it works." I stated, closing the hole with another snap.

I opened the new door and held it for him. "Shall we?"

"Lead the way."
