The mug warmed my hands, the coffee inside it steaming. Today was a cold winter's day, being just above thirty degrees outside.
My family wanted me to come with them to see my cousins, but I refused- not wanting to go out in the cold.
Howling wind could be heard from outside, the trees dancing and swaying as they were being blown from side to side.
The TV was on, its sound clear and it's glow shining on the wall surrounding it.
I pulled my fuzzy blanket around me, the candles that were burning in the room smelling like vanilla.
I hate going out in the cold. It's pointless and just makes me miserable.
I stare at the TV, sipping my coffee in mute silence as the characters of the show argue.
Suddenly, my phone buzzes, making me jump.
I look at the screen, seeing a text from my best friend.
Check the news.
W-why would she want me to check the news?
I take the remote, clicking the channel to the News.
Immediately, an image of a Red Volkswagen Beetle flashes on the screen, cars piled up around it, and the news announcer babbling.
"...Luckily, only four people were hurt." Sighed the man, gesturing to the picture. "But they were all in the same car."
My heart started to beat faster, looking at the car in the center of the pileup, the same kind of car my parents and siblings took earlier.
"Their names were as follows. Nicholas, Adilynne, James, and Brian Parker. They were immediately killed in the crash, and nobody knows how this event happened. What we assume to happen was-"
Click.
I turned off the TV, my heart dropping down to my stomach.
This... This can't be real.
I didn't ... I didn't even say "I love you" to them.
Tears started to gather in my eyes as the weight of the situation hit me like a brick wall.
My... my family...
I clutched a pillow, starting to sob.
This must be a dream.
Huge sobs wrack my body and I start trembling, thinking of my brat brothers and my annoying parents.
Gone.
I opened my eyes, seeing what I couldn't believe.
The ceiling was completely grey, with streaks of black and white dripping down the walls.
The drops fell, my blood pounding in my ears.
What am I supposed to do?!
Then, just as if someone had flipped the light switch on color, the room turned completely grey.
I shot up, looking down at myself.
My dirty blonde hair was grey, my pink shirt and pants almost black.
I looked out the window, seeing grey everything.
I whipped my head around, looking at the fireplace.
The fire burned, its color white.
I started to panic, my heart racing.
Do people suddenly loose their ability to see color?!
...I can't see color.
