Chpater 11
*JORDAN'S POV*
We're a good 2 hours late getting home. I can tell Andor's nervous. He parks the RV and everyone piles out of it. Tom and Maddi are waiting just ouside the town gates. Tom pulls me into a hug but quickly pulls away. "Welcome back." Maddi says smiling at me.
"Gosh kid you've grown." Wag says taking Maddi in for a hug. He must have been one of the followers that left.
"I'm late for chapel..." Andor mumbles under his breath. We leave Tom at the gates and walk back into the town.
"I'd better get to the church. Dad's probably upset I'm late." Andor says all the joy that was once in his voice drained, completely.
"Then don't go." Tom says and leans against the RV. "What do you mean?" Andor asks confused. Tom rolls his eyes. "I mean, your late, and you follow Ianite, so what's the point of going in the first place?"
"You don't understand." Andor glances down then back up at me.
*ANDOR'S POV*
He has the nerve to say that to me! "What do I not understand?" Tom asks smirking at me. I'm not gonna let him get under my skin. Not again!
"Helloo????!!! I spoke to you! Are you gonna answer?" Tom asks stiring the pot further. "You don't understand what its like to have people expect you to be perfect." I say.
"You have no clue how it feels to be ignored by the one person you need most. You don't know what its like to watch your friends die. And you probably never will. I would never wish the pain Dagrun has brought to me and so many others on anyone." I say softly.
"You may be correct. But I do know what it feels like to have the person you care about most snatched away from you. Ever think about that?" Tom snaps and Maddi is dragging me back into the town.
"You gotta start sticking up for yourself better." She snaps as we walk into the church. We take to the pew closest to the back. With my luck we arrive just in time to hear dad's rant.
"If she was half the god she claims to be, she would've saved my wife and daughter." He rants. If only he knew. Our eyes lock and a shiver makes its way up my spine. "Andor, you have seen first hand what happens to traders." He pauses,
"Would you care to talk about it?" My stomach knots I don't want to but I will.
"I'd rather not, but I don't think I have a choice."
"It's whatever son." I zone out for lord knows how long. I hate these masses. They're so long and boring. Before I know it people are clearing out of the church. Dad and I always leave last. Its just something we've always done. "I'll see you tomorrow." Maddi says and I nod.
"Why we're you late?!" Dad yells once everyone has cleared out.
"I was umm..... time got away from me." I answer letting my gaze drift to the ground.
"Where were you Andor?!" Dad asks, voice rising.
"No where okay! Don't worry about it. I'm sorry I was late and won't let it happen again." I say leaving at that. I don't wanna face Jordan. Not after what Tom said earlier. I feel bad for abandoning the group but I need time. Besides I did say slow, calm rebellion.
Time Skip
*JORDAN'S POV*
I walk to the edge of the taint, I find Capsize sitting writing things down. "Hey." I say and sit next to her.
"Can I help you?!" She snaps quickly tucking the notebook to her chest.
"You looked lonely so I thought I'd say hi." I say trying to be friendly.
"Oh." She says her tone lightening up a bit.
"What ya been up to?" I ask as the sun sets. Such a lovely sight.
"I was just writing."
"Can I see?"
"I don't see why not, you are on my side after all." She says handing me the notebook.
The top is titled: Among All Of Gods Creatures
Amoung all of gods creatures
It is only men who kill
With the venom strong enough
To melt the fool upon the hill
Who is egar just to watch and offer
Infinate advise as he slips into the liquid
Of his own, self sacrifice.
Among all of gods creatures it is only
Men who seize upon friendship
And devotion as if they were the disease
To be cured and violated
White washed and despised
Never wondering why the heart
Is growing black and over-sized.
Amoug all of gods creatures it is only
Men who lie with the energy of lava
Oozing up into the sky
Spreading rivers of regret
Dark and cold as outer space
And as infinite in madness as the beauty
Of the chase!
Among all of gods creatures it is only
Men who trust in the devil and his
Robbing to deliver what is just
From the hand of he who suffers
To the handshake of defeat
As the ashes of indifference incinerate
Our flee.
Amoung all of gods creatures it is only
Men who cry and one day when I'm
Ancient I will look at you and sigh
As I sink into the places I wish I could've
Been as I slip beneath the surface of your
Soft and wrinkled skin.
"I didn't see you to be one to write poetry." I say. I'm quite amazed by this. I mean I've seen some of the songs Maddi's wrote but it's never gotten this deep before.
"Everyone says that. But I guess its kind of my escape from things. I mean look at poor Andor. I remember the day Jasper was killed, Andor begged Helgrind not to. He ignored him. Since he saw that I feel as if he's changed. Like he wants to stand up and do something. Maybe now's his time. Jordan, you and your friend changed us. Changed Dagrun! I see the way Andor looks at you. He looks at you like he looked at Helgrind when he had a family." I cut her off,
"You mean before the gun incident?"
"Yeah, Andor looked up to him. Then after that series of events and Jasper things stared changing. Helgrind and Harold got stricter and Andor was pushed more and more to the side. The night Brother and me left, is when everything clicked for me. That Andor was going to turn out like us. We kept in touch, Andor and I, sending letters back and fourth for months on end. Waglington was Andor's mentor for a long time. He was being trained to be a sorcerer, then Wag took his sister and left. The last note Andor sent me was saying he was sorry about everything. And told me to forget any thought of him. And I tried really hard, but I couldn't help but think how strong he is." I see the tears rolling down Capsize's face. I take her hand in my own and rub slow cirlces on the back of her palm.
"You can't give up on him, Jordan. You can't be like anybody he's ever known. When Tom snapped at him today, I could see the hurt and fear in his eyes. All he's ever known was being pushed to the shadows and forgotten about. Can you promise me, and this whole rebellion thing, that you won't give up on him?" Capsize says and I nod.
"I promise." I whisper to her. She's right, we can't give up on him. I haven't known Andor long, but I feel as if I know him well enough to say he needs to be the one to spark the rebellion. This was his idea and its going at his pace. Slow and Calm.
"Slow and Calm"
