Chapter 2
Chloe had never felt so naked as when that eye was cast upon her.
Clad in her leather boots, netted leggings, short black skirt, graphic T-shirt, and a leather jacket (one which she had stolen from William), Chloe had always felt confident and not the least bit uncomfortable. Now, she wished she had more layers.
A lock clicked and hinges of the door creaked.
Chloe tucked her legs beneath her and pulled the leather jacket around her tighter, trying to make herself small, not that she needed to, considering the size of the figure approaching her.
A tower of a man, his height accented by the door frame in which he ducked under to step into the room, now perched at the foot of the mattress Chloe cowered on.
Chloe's breath caught. She should have been screaming at him, demanding he let her go. Instead, when she needed her voice most, it eluded her. Frankly, even if her voice was intact, she had no idea what to say to convince this man- her captor, as her brain was also stalling beneath his gaze.
The silence, only broken by her uneven breaths, seemed to last for eons before the man whispered again. "meu amor."
He reached his hand out towards her face. Chloe could only watch, frozen, as he brushed a strand of her dyed amethyst hair, one of the pieces which had fallen out when she had unclipped the bobby pin, behind her ear.
"I've missed you." He said, a small forlonging smile tugging at his dried and cracking lips. In the flickering of the light, Chloe noticed he was missing several teeth. The cigarette scent lingering on his breath explained why the ones he did have left were stained yellow and eroding away.
Breaking out of her frozen state, Chloe scooted away from him on shaking limbs until her back hit the wall behind her.
"Y- you can't miss some-someone you n-never knew." Chloe stuttered weakly and finally collected enough courage to force herself to meet his gaze. "I'm not whoever you think I am- I- y- you need to-"
Chloe had never seen such clear blue eyes turn so dark before. It was like a drop of oil had spilled into an ocean and tainted the entire body of water. His eyebrows hovered lower, casting dark shadows over the rough terrain that was his face. His smile caved into a distasteful frown.
"Miss someone you never knew." He echoed, shaking his head almost deliriously. "Miss someone you never knew? Well it's a damn good thing that's not our case, Penny! I remember, you will too... you will remember..."
"Please, I don't know who Penny is but you need to-"
Chloe's protest was cut short when she felt a sudden stinging on her cheek. At first she could only blink in shock, but then the salt water gathered in her eyes and the clear scene of his hand moving away from her smudged into a world of abstract objects.
It would be a lie to say that any of Chloe's previous relationships were perfect. In fact, most had ended in some form of argument, but never had her exes gotten physically aggressive.
"I don't need to do anything!" He seethed. "Especially after that shitty disappearing act you pulled!"
Chloe's breaths turned to strangled gasps as she tried to process everything that had just happened. She had gone to a bar last night to try and forget one version of hell, only to awaken in another.
"Self-centered brat." He said under his breath. "Can't remember- no, Penny will remember..."
The man stood and promptly excited the room. The door creaked shut and Chloe heard the lock click again.
Penny must have been some extravagant escape artist if he thought I was a high enough caliber to require both a cuff and a locked door. Despite her situation, the thought made Chloe chortle.
She knew she shouldn't have been laughing, but her body overrode her mind at that moment.
