Chapter 22

“Hey!” Josie collapsed in the seat next to Landon. “What’s up?” Her grin started to fade when she caught his expression. “Or … what’s wrong?”
“I had Lizzie do a locator spell for me today.” Landon looked down at the map in his lap. Josie followed his gaze, catching the telltale signs of a locator spell on the surface. “Guess who she found hanging out with the enemy?”
Josie’s stomach dropped, a million excuses and explanations ready to go. She'd already thought of at least twenty reasons she could've been with Hope before Landon handed the map to her. "Oh.” She took a deep breath, looking at the red trail leading to the Mikaelson Academy itself. “If Rafael wanted to transfer to the Mikaelson Academy, he would’ve done it already.”
Landon put a hand over his face and groaned. “Yeah, unless he’s just staying here for me.” He sighed, stopping the spiral before he could get too far. “Have you talked to Hope lately?”
“What? No! Why?”
“No reason.” Landon shrugged, barely catching his girlfriend's lie. “I just figured if Raf was interested in her dad’s school, Hope would know about it.”
Josie nodded, swallowing her guilt. “Oh. Of course.” She gave the map back to him. “But Landon, … Rafael knows what we know about the Mikaelson Academy.” She picked his hand up in hers, holding tight and looking into his eyes. “And he may like to party it up with them and he may like their magic werewolf drugs, but he is your brother. And he’s a good guy. He doesn’t side with them where it matters.”
Landon smiled, eyes bouncing back and forth between Josie’s for a minute before he leaned in for a kiss, the projector flashing their long forgotten movie across their faces.
Neither one of them noticed the short witch in the trees watching them sadly.
