Chapter 15
“M’Lady.” MG stuck out an arm.
Hope grinned and looped her arm through his. She could feel something warm in her chest as they walked across the parking lot, almost like a fluttering, but she ignored it. She didn’t feel emotions anymore. That was the old Hope.
They flashed their fake IDs at the bouncer confidently enough to be waved through without a second glance. Not that she couldn't be compelled even if she didn't wave them through.
“Where to first?” Hope asked, eyeing the crowded club.
“I want a drink.”
Hope smirked and leaned in, putting her lips against his ear. “The bar or the dance floor?”
“The dance floor.”
Hope laughed, deep and musical, and pulled him into the thick of people. Most of them were Whitmore college students. Hope could tell just by looking at them. Some were definitely high school kids like them.
“Pick the prettiest one,” Hope said, letting her eyes wander around lazily. She took in their faces, only looking deep enough to see if they were hot or not.
“Nuh-uh.” MG shook his head. “I don't judge women based on their looks.”
“We’re not judging. We’re hunting.”
“Well I don’t hunt women based on their looks.”
Hope pulled him in, mouth getting close to his. That feeling in her chest returned, like stepping into the sun on a chilly day. “What do you hunt based on then?”
MG considered for a minute, swaying to the music with Hope. “Smell.”
They danced through the crowd, letting their vampire senses do their thing. MG finally smiled at a short girl, drawing her in with just his charming grin.
“Do you want to dance?” he asked her.
She tucked her red hair behind her ear. “Sure!”
“Mind if my friend dances with us?” MG motioned to Hope.
“Oh my gosh! You’re so pretty!” the girl gushed when she saw Hope. She grabbed a lock of her hair, swishing it around. “Look! Ginger twins!”
Hope smirked at her bubbliness, leaning in to whisper hotly in her ear, “It’s a good color.” She moved behind her and dropped her hands to the girl’s swinging hips. “You know what else is a good color?” Hope’s fangs slid out.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” MG said, putting his arms over the girl’s shoulders. “We don’t even know her name yet.”
“What’s your name?” Hope asked, brushing red hair off the girl’s neck. She could feel her pulse under her fingertips, just waiting to be tapped.
“Cheryl.”
Hope put a finger on her chin, turning her head to look at her. “Okay, Cheryl. You’re not going to scream. You’re not going to fight. You’re going to enjoy this.”
Cheryl nodded along emptily. Too emptily.
Hope added, “But you’re going to keep being all perky. I think I'm into the cheerleader thing you’ve got going.”
Hope bit into her neck, holding Cheryl’s hips against hers as she sucked. It was half-drinking, half-kissing, Hope drawing it out sweetly.
“Come on, MG.” She reached out a hand, pulling MG’s face to hers and kissing him. Those dark veins appeared on his face as soon as he tasted the blood on Hope's lips. That familiar warmth exploded through Hope’s chest, and she pulled her mouth off his. “Have a sip.”
MG went for the other side of Cheryl’s neck - a little too enthusiastically, but Hope put a hand on his neck to slow him down. She bit her wrist and held it in front of Cheryl’s already-red lips.
“You too, sweetheart. Have a sip.”
Cheryl obeyed, MG draining her and Hope refilling her. She wrapped her hands around Hope's arm, holding her wrist to her mouth.
“Don’t stop moving your hips,” Hope said disappointedly, taking her hand off MG to touch Cheryl’s hips again. She had to keep re-biting her wrist everytime she healed, giving Cheryl a few moments to catch her breath. “MG? Are you done?”
MG pried his mouth off Cheryl, almost surprised that she was still there, alive and dancing in one piece. The surprise only lasted a second though before it exploded into a wide, bloody grin. Even the bite mark on her neck was already healed with Hope’s blood.
“You did amazing,” MG said, putting his hands on Cheryl’s shoulders and holding her gaze. “Go find your friends and tell them about the really hot people you danced with.”
