Chapter 10

“Jo?” Emma clicked her pen shut. “You know this only works if you talk. Tell me what’s on your mind.”
Josie spoke without looking up. “Hope.”
“Hope?”
“Yeah, I … I thought I was over her.” Josie wrinkled her nose. “But I don’t think I am.”
“Do you mean romantically, as in you still have feelings for her? Or emotionally, as in you’re not over what she did to you?”
“I don’t know. Both?” Josie’s voice cracked. “I just … She’s not even here anymore, and she’s still messing with my head. And I don’t - I don’t want her to have that power over me. After everything that happened last summer … I can’t not be over her.”
Josie sucked in a deep breath she hadn't taken the entire time she'd spoke.
“Then I think you need to get to the root of what still ties you to Hope,” Emma said thoughtfully. “Whether that be lingering romantic feelings or leftover resentment.”
Josie nodded half-heartedly. Digging into her leftover feelings about Hope didn’t exactly sound like a fun time, but Emma was right. It was more than likely the source of this madness.
