The End
She sighed as she watched the ticking clock rotate on the wall. It had been three days since Levi left and it felt like years to her. She missed him and his subtle expressions of affection towards her.
"(y/n), you've been awfully distracted today. What's keeping you occupied?" Linda asked, passing by her as she put away some of the books into their respected shelves.
She looked at her, cutting her hollow stare. "Oh, uhhh..."
"Boyfriend problems? Were you able to reconnect with him?" she put a hand on her hip.
"Not really, a problem. And yes, we're fine now, but..." she looked away, thinking of how she could explain and lie at the same time about where Levi was. "uhh, he's kinda out of town at the moment and I’m just wondering whether he’s doing well.”
Linda started to go towards the cashier and she followed behind. “I’m sure he’s doing fine,” she tried to reassure her, “What is he doing out of town?”
Her eyes slightly widened, “… he’s on vacation with his family.” Lying through her teeth had become a routine for her. She had to lie to a large amount of people basically every day just to get away with the fact that her boyfriend was from another world. “I just miss him.”
“Aww, it’s okay, (y/n).” she gave her a warm look, “He’ll be back soon.”
“I hope he will be.” She muttered under her breath.
Her legs gave in as she lay on her couch, turning on the television and watching a rerun of the show for the 10th time.
It seemed like her life had been boring without Hange and Levi. She didn’t remember how her days went before she met them. Although she had friends to talk to, she didn’t really fancy going out, and she felt that Marco was too busy to hang out, or that he was tired of seeing her face after seeing each other two consecutive days.
Petra and Oulo came by the day before to see if she had been lying or not.
-
“These… these are us...” Petra scanned the book with fear written across her face, pointing at the panel with her face in it.
“Did you draw these or something?” Oulo asked, suspicious of what she was showing- still not believing whatever it was she said.
“No, I didn’t. I’m not going to dedicate my life drawing other people, I have a job you know.” She could hardly maintain herself from being impatient with him, but she didn’t want to be rude.
They scanned through the pages, seeing their previous life and the type of world they lived in.
“Who is that? He looks really familiar…” Petra pointed at a panel of Levi, and looked at Oulo.
“He must have been one of our friends or something…” he scratched his chin and stroked it.
“That’s Levi. He was the captain of your squad. He’s still alive right now and I’ve met him.” She smiled as she looked at his panel. “When he comes back I’ll introduce you to him.”
She took the book and flipped the pages and pointed at a panel.
“You remember them?” she looked at the two with confused faces, but showed slight recognition as they looked closer.
“Sort of… it’s all kind of blurry still but there’s something about it that feels a bit nostalgic.” Petra answered, furrowing her eyebrows.
“Those are your team mates. They are the ones who were chosen to be in Levi’s squad along with you two.” She smiled at them. For some reason she felt bad that they didn’t remember anything about their previous life, but the life they lived now seemed to be much better than the one they lived before. The wonder and curiosity in their eyes made her tear up. She couldn’t believe that they had died in the book.
-
She decided to take a small nap before she got prepared for dinner.
She woke up with a large bang in her house, nearly giving her a heart attack and making her jolt up from the couch.
“What the fu…” she got up and started to investigate what caused the problem. She smiled as she remembered the first day that she met Levi- being startled awake too by his loud noises in the kitchen.
She checked around for the source of the sound and found that her bedroom had been shining unusually bright with the door wide open, leading into the setting.
She took her keys and her bag and walked into the room she stayed in whilst in Levi’s setting, changing quickly.
As she stepped out of her room, she looked out the window at the end of the hallway, seeing the soldiers tiredly come back from their expedition. As exasperated as they were, they were frantic to come back.
“Squad Leader Hange! Please!” one of the soldiers cried out with panic in their voice, making her run out of the building, her heart racing immensely. There was a gut feeling that Hange was in trouble.
“(y/n),” Armin called out to her, making her stop abruptly. “Uhh…”
“What happened to Hange?” she asked, feeling sweat running down her forehead.
“Nothing,” he scratched the back of his head.
She knew he was trying to stall her. There was something he was trying to not to show her.
“Where is she?” (y/n) asked, eager to get an answer out of him.
“Uhh…” he responded, averting her gaze, his face turning red, and tears welling up in his eyes.
She pushed past him, running out to the field.
“Wait! Please!” He ran after her, taking hold of her arm and stopping her.
She turned around to look at him, still trying to pull away. “What are you hiding from me?”
“I just wanted to…” he frantically searched for an answer.
She pulled away once again, dragging him along with her.
“Okay, fine!” he called out to her, pulling her back and hugged her tightly. “I w-was just going to say that I missed you!”
“I missed you too, Armin.” She patted his back, knowing that this was all part of his plan to stall her.
He held on to her for long, making her forcefully separate them from each other.
“I’m going to find Hange.” She started walking away, seeing a carriage pull up yards away and watching her step out of the carriage with an unfamiliar expression on her face.
“Hange!” She ran up to her, but immediately saw Hange’s horrified face. She experiments with titans all the time, but somehow, this trip made it different.
Hange’s eyes widened upon seeing her, “(y/n),” she looked away to the side where a carriage arrived.
She followed Hange’s gaze and saw Jean, and the rest of Levi’s new squad- their faces held the same expression as Hange. Even Sasha and Connie had expressions different than that of the first time that they encountered the titans.
She ran towards them, hoping to greet Levi once she sees him.
“Wait!” Hange called out, running behind her.
Jean saw her running towards them and got off his horse to greet her.
“Hey.”
“How was it?” she asked him, panting from her run.
He looked away and turned around to look at the carriage behind him with an exasperated sigh escaping his mouth.
She walked past him and looked at the carriage, Hange catching up behind, grasping her shoulder as she looked inside.
Her heart sunk upon witnessing the sight that she never wanted to see.
Levi lay inside the carriage, hardly breathing. All of his limbs were still intact, but she could tell that he was horribly injured and unconscious. Copious amounts of blood were seeping through the cape that was set on top of him.
She looked around to see the faces of the rest of his squad- all mortified and exhausted, losing hope because their strongest soldier was fatally injured.
Could it have been because he had a completely new squad he had to work with?
She reached over the border of the carriage and held his hand, tears refusing to leave her eyes.
“How’s his condition?” She asked coldly. Although she had no reason to be angry at everyone, she couldn’t resist it.
Everyone remained silent and lowered their heads, hoping not to witness the oncoming glance of dejection in her eyes.
“You should have taken care of him, you useless fucking people.”
She kissed the back of his hand and grazed his forehead with her hand and walked away. Preventing the tears from streaming down like a leaky faucet.
Hange followed behind with a considerable amount of distance between them, stopping Jean who ran behind.
“I don’t think right now is the best time to run after her.” Hange held out her arm to stop him.
Her throat stung her as she walked, trying to get back to her room as soon as possible to let her emotions run loose. Her head felt heavy, her vision was spinning. She couldn’t believe what she just saw. This was the last thing she wanted. She put so much trust in him that she did not even put the picture of him dying into her mind.
She wanted to vomit. The atmosphere felt repulsing to her. It just made her feel like she was lingering in the image of his lifeless body made her feel sick.
Everything felt heavy. Her legs felt like lead- barely doing its job of making her walk.
She collapsed on the floor- the last thing she felt was the cold grass hitting her body.
“(y/n)!” Hange and Jean called out in unison, running over to her, along with the rest of Levi’s squad.
She jolted up from her bed- beads of sweat running down her face and her neck- panting, feeling the hot tears on her cheeks.
She looked around her room, trying to adjust her eyes to the brightness of the morning sunlight.
Her phone buzzed, startling her with her everyday morning alarm, feeling a small package on her table as she reached for her phone.
A letter on top of the package had been addressed to her.
With a questioning look, she opened the letter, seeing Hange’s familiar handwriting.
Dear (y/n),
I am very sad to inform you that I have taken away your key as a result of your wellbeing. I did not want you to have any more recollection or reminder of what has happened, therefore making this a justifiable reason for me to keep you in your world.
I’ve left Levi’s uniform on your bedside, I hope that you keep the good memories you had with him forever in your thoughts.
I hope you know that the man you loved served well in the military and saved his squad from a dangerous threat. He did not die in vain. Please remember him as he was as a person and not linger around the memories of his death.
I’m so happy to have met you, thank you so much for being my friend and showing me all the great things that your setting contained. It was a great adventure and I had tons of fun.
But unfortunately I have to say that this is where it might end for us crossing each other’s settings. I’ve learned my lesson of not messing with something that is beyond my own.
I’ve dropped you off here with Armin when you fell unconscious. Sorry for having to leave you, but I think that it’s best that you don’t strain yourself after Levi’s passing.
Please take care.
Hange.
(A/N) Hi!
This was really difficult for me to write because I can't write sad scenes for shit I hate myself.
No, it is not the end. She still has to see Levi in her world remember?? So yeah eheh.
---- just a small rant, skip if you must----
Uhh, I'm not sure why it's a thing here but I've seen so much books about people who complain about other fanfiction writers because their stories dont meet up to their expectations or something. And I really don't want to start a flame, but uhh I just feel like it's not very nice?? I mean yeah, you're entitled to an opinion and criticism but there is a fine line between constructive criticism and being just downright rude. Not that i've been in that list- at least not that I know of- but I myself have read stories that aren't Edgar Allen Poe quality and the only thing one should really do is give constructive criticism and encouragement because writing takes a lot of time and its sometimes a hobby and their expression of inner feelings so it's not very nice to do that to people. Sorry I just noticed it and I was kinda bothered. Sorry if I've offended anyone in any way, I'm out of line here uhh but please just be kind to each other.
-------- END OF MY WHINING --------
Anyways, thank you so much for being patient with me. I have writer's block all the time and it's difficult to get rid of it.
Thank you for reading, commenting, following, and adding this story to your reading lists. It means so much!
Have a great day/night!
