Please Explain

She ran off to the bus stop after grabbing her coat, feeling the cold air hit her burning face.

The trip to the hospital felt like it had taken years, making her anxiety and anticipation rise to an immense rate. She uncontrollably shook her leg, getting ready to run for the door as soon as she arrived to her stop. People looked at her, for she had tears running down her cheeks and her impatience created tension among everyone.

She ran out, nearly tripping on other passengers, and earning a few curses towards her.

"Levi, Levi Ackerman, please," she pushed her hair out of her face, not feeling the exhaustion of running to the hospital.

"One moment, please." the woman at the front desk replied, smiling unusually at her. She watched her fingers tap the keyboard, unsure of whether she was actually pushing them or just tapping them.

After seconds have passed, the woman who had been smiling now frowned and looked at her.

"I'm sorry he isn't here." she smiled after responding, looking back into her screen and tapping the keyboard infront of her.

"No, you're lying. He has to be here, he just died a few days ago." she blurted softly, unaware of how strange her statement must have been.

"I'm sorry ma'am but he hasn't arrived yet." the lady maintained her smile, accepting her statement completely."You're the entrance for what book?"

"What do you mean? When is he coming back?" she raised her voice. People looked at her and some shook their heads.

"Shhh!" a woman replied from the side, waiting.

"Ma'am, he will arrive in a few days, weeks even. It depends on how badly his injuries were when he died. If it was a natural death, it should take a few days, if it was a tragic accident, then I do believe that it will take a little longer because of all the injuries that have to be healed. What entrance are you?" the lady asked again.

"What...?"

"What book is your character from?" the lady asked, still surprisingly patient.

"Uhh," her mind blanked out for a moment, "Attack on titan."

She watched as the happy expression disappeared from the lady. "Oh."

The name obviously has a reputation for horrible deaths.

"What do you mean entrance?"

"Well," the lady took her hands off the keyboard and set them on her table, "You were assigned an entrance from the moment you read your book. As surprising as it might be, you are the only one who knows about this book because we can only assign one entrance. But you aren't supposed to know just for the sake of keeping everything under control, people go crazy with fictional characters, you know. Only the characters from within the book can open the entrance when they discover it, but other than that, the entrance remains closed." she grinned. "Once they pass away in the book, they appear here where we can assign them new lives." she smiled and picked up the phone that had been ringing for ages.

She looked around, all the people waiting might have been waiting for their characters to arrive.

She hit the desk with her fist, "Thanks."

Utter confusion and an overwhelming sensation took over her. It was too much to understand.

She walked back home slowly- refusing to take the bus- trying to stall herself from getting home and crying on her couch again.
"I'm sorry ma'am but he hasn't arrived yet." the words continued to ring in her head.

"Hasn't arrived... yet." she muttered.

It was already proved that he would come back- she had solid proofs of them living in her world and recalled parts of their previous life. It was the wait that killed her. She wasn't sure of when he would arrive or whether she would even find him in her world.

For now she could only really try to do one thing.

She ran to Chris' house, remembering something that she saw a long time ago from Marco.
"By the way... I have this key that was on my bedside table when I woke up- they told me that it was mine, but it doesn't seem to work anywhere in my apartment." she recalled him saying. Although she wasn't too sure whether it was the key she looked for, she was desperate to know what its purpose could be.

She violently knocked on Chris' door, feeling restless as she waited for him to answer it.

"Jeez, (y/n), relax with the knocking!" Chris answered, shouting from the other side of the door, immediately identifying that it was her. "What is it?" he swung the door open.

"Is Marco home?" she asked, losing her breath even more with each word.

"Yeah, come on in." He opened the door wider and walked in with her following behind. "Marco! (y/n) is looking for you!" Chris called out with his voice echoing throughout the living room.

Marco walked out of his room seconds after, surprised to see her visiting.

She waved at him as he entered.

"Hey, (y/n). What brings you here?" he said with a cheerful smile. There was a slight look in his eyes that hoped that she brought good news.

"Come with me. And bring your keys, I might be able to make you remember something."

Chris looked at the both of them, feeling left out.

"Alright, I guess I'll just... watch TV then, because apparently two of my friends made plans without me." he pouted at (y/n) as he made his way to the couch.

"Shut up, Chris. Stop being Jeaous." she chuckled and shook her head.

"Okay, let's go!" Marco headed for the door, eager to get out.

---

"Can I see your key?" she asked, holding out a hand towards Marco.

He searched for the key in his pocket and handed it to her, the metal surface feeling familiar on her palm for a strange reason.

"I still haven't figured out where it works." he scratched his head.

"Hmm." she led him towards her apartment door and put the key in lock, feeling it unhitch as she turned it.

She looked at Marco as she heard the lock click open.

"Why does it work here?" he asked.

"I think my house is the only place you can use any key of this kind... Some lady told me about some entrance today." she didn't elaborate. He still had more important things to understand.

She opened the door, and saw the familiar bright flash of light into her room. A sigh of excitement exited her mouth. She wasn't supposed to be back, but she couldn't help it.

Marco tried to put a finger into the space before them, and just like what happened before, it wouldn't allow him to cross.

"I'll be right back. You can sit in my living room. I promise I'll be back in two minutes. I've just got someone to talk to. Okay?" he nodded.

She took another deep breath as she stepped in, waving back at Marco who was waiting patiently on the other side.

A blast of different emotions took over her. It was a bittersweet feeling.

Quickly changing into her uniform, one that she hadn't worn in what felt like ages, she ran out of her room to look for the person she needed at the moment.

"Jean!" she called out to him who walking right past her door at the right time. She grabbed onto his arm and dragged him into her room, shutting the door behind them. "I missed you!"

"(y/n)? I thought you were sent home, did you come back to the Survey Corps?" he asked, blushing.

"I'll explain later."  she grabbed him towards the door to her closet, taking off her jacket and throwing it on the floor.

"Woah, woah, woah, (y/n)," he quickly halted, "Whatever, we're doing in there, I'm telling you right now, it's more comfortable on the bed."

She looked at him questioningly, "Didn't ever think of that."

He flinched and looked away, embarrassed.

She took her keys and opened the door to her closet with the blinding light shining once again.

"What's going on?" Jean shielded his eyes.

"Come with me." she pulled on him.

"No, what the hell?" he stopped her, pulling her back. "What if that's dangerous? How did you open that anyway? Do you live in this closet?"

"It's where I come from. Just please, ask questions later, come on. I want you to meet someone... again." she whispered the last word, hoping to keep the surprise from him.

"If I die, I'm going to haunt you." he warned her. As sketchy as it seemed, he still trusted her which made her feel better.

She let out an exasperated sigh, pulling on his arm, "You won't regret it."

"Fine. I trust you." he willingly entered the door from her room in his setting to her living room, closing his eyes shut and hoping for the best.

She looked at him with is eyes still shut as they stood in front of her bedroom door, "You can open your eyes now." she let go of his sleeve.

He opened his eyes and looked around, absorbing the different things she had in her house that he had never seen before.

"(y/n)? You're finally bac-" Marco walked in, and stopped midway of his sentence.

She could hear Jean's breath stop for a second, unable to say anything.

"Who's this?" Marco pointed at Jean, looking at (y/n) who, at this point, had been contemplating whether it was a good idea to bring Jean along. "Hi, I'm Marco" he held out a hand.

Jean looked at her, infuriated "... is this a joke, (y/n)?" he slapped Marco's hand away. "You are fully aware of how I feel about Marco's death, I don't need you to remind me and make a damn joke about it." he turned around to open the door behind him but found that it was just another room. "Take me back."

"No, just listen, please." she grabbed onto his forearm. "Look, it's really hard to explain, but this really is Marco. He just doesn't remember who you are, or his past life. So I brought you here in hopes of him recollecting them."

He turned back around. "This doesn't make sense. How is he alive? Please, elaborate."

"It's quite a long story."
