Keep Moving Forward
Jean furrowed his eyebrows, looking into her eyes, still avoiding Marco's stare. He didn't want to look at him. Solely for the purpose of not becoming weak as he remembers seeing his dead body. "Does this mean that all of the friends we lost... They're alive?"
"Well... yeah. I guess." she squinted, "Remember Oulo and Petra from Le- his squad?" it hurt her to say his name. "I met them, but they don't remember anything, but they have vague recollections of their past- which leads me to think that they have their memories stored at the back of their mind. Marco's been having dreams about you, for instance, and this might be because he still kinda remembers you. she looked at Marco to confirm and he nodded at her.
Jean flinched, almost unnoticably.
She noticed that he had been avoiding eye contact with the boy sitting next to her the moment they passed through the door.
"Can you look at Marco... please, Jean. He's your best friend." she bluntly pleaded, pitying him- she had a sense of how he felt to some extent. "... I know how it's like to lose someone important to you, Jean, and I'm sorry this had to happen to you. But, stop living in the past. He's here, right now. You can hug him, do whatever. What's holding you back?" her voice let out an urgent, but soft tone.
Silence filled the room for what seemed to be long minutes, "I just... don't want to be reminded of that image." Rubbing his eyes as he leaned forward on his chair, he started crying.
Marco froze, sitting in shock of Jean's suddent break down.
She gestured with her head, telling Marco to do something about it.
Obeying her , Marco rose up from his chair and grasped Jean's shoulder.
"I'm sorry." Marco sat down beside him. "But thank you for being my friend." he patted his back.
With slight apprehension, Jean looked at Marco and hugged him.
She smiled at the sight of the reunion, immediately vanishing, thinking about her own personal worries. There wasn't a day when she wasn't faced with the problems of her own.
"Please, don't leave me again." Jean's voice muffled through Marco's shoulder, his shirt wet with tears, "You were my only best friend."
Marco had a warm smile drawn across his face, "Okay."
They both pulled away. Jean's eyes were puffy, hiding them from (y/n), trying to keep up his "cool boy" look.
"Alright, you two, I hate to break the reunion so abruplty, but it's time to stop being so sappy." she smiled at them, "I'll show you around, Jean, but I will find the time to, just not now. I'll let you meet up with Marco every weekend." she proposed, looking at the both of them, looking for approval.
Jean nodded, smiling. As much as he had to wait, he was content with the idea that his best friend- the person he thought he had lost- was there.
"I hate to cut it short, but its nighttime, and I'm sure Chris wants you home before it gets too late, Marco. Trust me, I know."
"Yeah, sure thing. Thanks again, (y/n)." Marco got up to leave, taking his coat from the couch and swung it around himself.
"Wait... who's Chris?" Jean asked, narrowing his eyes at her. There was no way he was going to let this be just a name.
"No one you should be jealous of," she muttered, but meant for him to hear it.
He raised an eyebrow and put a hand to his hip.
"It's Marco's landlord, relax." she lied. Technically, she didn't consider it as a lie- Marco was paying rent to live in Chris' apartment, so respectively, Chris was a landlord- it was just a matter choosing between truths and keeping some of it secret.
"Okay. Just wanted to ask." he quickly defended, "Just making sure."
She snorted, leading Jean infront of her bedroom door, unlocking the door with her key. "Get out of here before you start crying about it." she put her hand on his back and pushed lightly.
"Alright, alright." he followed her past the door.
"This is the farthest I'll go," she said, standing infront of the closet.
"Okay. Come back soon, please. And take care of Marco." he hugged her.
Before he could even open the door, he stopped dead in his tracks and turned around again to her, seeing her wait for him to leave. "By the way, how are you handling things?"
She was caught by surprise by the sudden, and unprecedented compassionate act of his. "What do you mean?" She tried to play naive, but she knew exactly what-or who- he was talking about. Despite him making jokes about his not-so-secret crush for her, he knew she was suffering about her actual relationship with Levi.
He crossed his arms, "Come on, (y/n). I know you know what I'm talking about. I just want you to know that I'm here to listen to you. Even though I wouldn't really consider myself much of a listener. I know you're still so committed to him." He looked at her straight in the eyes.
There was no way she could look right back. She felt his stare pierce right through her.
"Do you miss him? Do you miss Captain Le-"
"Uh, well. I had a good time." she cut him off, just hearing his name made it seem like she wanted to see him sooner. "I'll visit you again next week, m'kay?" she swayed, turning for the door. She'd been waiting for days, but it felt like months to her.
"Listen, (y/n)" he grabbed her shoulder and turned her around to see tears forming on her eyes. "He's gonna come. Just wait for it. He'll find a way to get to you." he hugged her.
Tears involuntarily left her eyes as she rested her chin on his shoulder.
He rubbed her back, "Shh, it's okay. Just wait for him."
She nodded her head and pulled away, "Thanks." She's told herself that far too many times. Just wait for him. Just wait for him. She repeated in her head in different instances throughout the day.
"Hey, if you need to talk, I'm just a door away." he patted her shoulder.
"Yeah." she said, walking back towards the door, sniffling. "I'll see you next time." Her hand faintly waved at him, and as she smiled with slight insincerity.
"Mhm." He cracked the door slightly and snuck out, trying to go on about his day as nonchalantly as normal.
She also sent Marco home when she went back; she needed some time of her own.
"Bye, I'll see you at work." she waved goodbye to Marco as his silhouette vanished down the stairwell of her apartment complex.
Forgetting the fact that it was 12 o'clock, she sat in her couch, looking at a book before her.
The latest chapter of the series- she thought that buying it would give her closure, but she couldn't be satsfied. There was constant fear in her that he might reappear, but she would never be able to find him.
Her hand hovered over the book for a while as she at in contemplation of whether she should read the chapter or not, seeing how he could have passed.
The book was calling her name, the bolded letters tempted her to pick up the book and to stop being such a coward.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, feeling for the smooth surface of the book and opening to the first page of the book.
Upon opening her eyes, her heartbeat grew faster. There were conflicting emotions of whether she should read on or not.
She flipped through the pages, skipping all the pages talking about the main characters in the story and the current plot, and stopped at the first page in which the plot continued.
The expedition.
The expedition she had hoped they wouldn't lose their greatest soldier to.
She read on and on, but no sign of Levi yet. The chapters consisted mostly of how humanity was once again losing to the titans. No progress from the previous expedition.
As the story neared its ending... she saw him.
The familliar face that she had grown to fall in love with, fatally hit by the hand of a titan, smashed down onto the ground.
Blood rushed out of his mouth, running down his dirty uniform as he laid on the floor, looking at the titan, insulting it to the last of his breath.
Christa, along with Sasha and Mikasa came along to kill the titan but it was too late.
She turned the page one more time to advance further, and as soon as she immediately saw his blank stare on the ground, blood dripping on his usual clean clothes, she closed the book and no longer wanted to see more.
(A/N) Hey! So, I'm a complete butt for not updating sooner. But school got in the way of things, and the past few weeks haven't really been a blast either.
Another thing, just wanted to let you all know that in this book I plan to keep Marco and Jean's relationship just a platonic friendship, so if you dont ship it, then I'll leave it at that, but if you do, then I'll leave it to your imagination as to how Jean feels about meeting Marco again.
Sorry this chapter sucked nuts, but you WILL see Levi in the next, and last chapter of this book. I have recieved requests of a second book, and I have considered and made a plot for it, but the question is whether everyone wants that?
So please kindly leave your comments, and thank you for voting, commenting, and following. Please feel free to message me reminding me to update once in a while or just tell me how you're doing. :)
AGAIN, Sorry for my inadequate writing. And for my tardiness.
Have a great day/night!
