Jealousy

Hange screamed, bewildered. "This is beautiful!" she ran off, feeling the sand on her feet. "What is this?" She picked up sand. Its like powder and rock! I'm taking these back home!" she started stuffing them in to her bag which (y/n) prevented her from doing and gave her a plastic bag to put them in instead.

They walked closer to shore where they set down their things and waited for her friends to come. She made sure to come earlier so if the two wanted to explore, they could before her friends came.

She sat down on the towel on the sand with Hange and Levi sitting beside her.

Half an hour later, her friends arrived.

"Hey, (y/n)!" one of her friends called out.

"Hey guys!" she waved.

"Tch," Levi glared at her friend whom he met in the grocery store; Chris.

She introduced the two to her friends and Levi earned a few flirtatious looks from some.

"That one is the main character of your book." He leaned in to whisper to her. She followed the trail of his sight and looked at her friend who was in the water. It was Rachel. She wasn't surprised. The attention was always on her and everyone liked her company. She was funny and easily made friends. (y/n) hated to admit it but she was envious of her.

"I'm not very fond of her." He continued. She was surprised to recieve such a response.

"Why not?" she played with the sand.

"She's morbidly naive and narrow minded." he rolled his eyes.

"Oh." She paused for a while and started playing with the sand once again. She didn't reply nor did she argue with what he said. She was her friend, but he was not wrong about it. She disagreed with her way of thinking often.

She looked at him and saw him staring into the water. "Do you want to go in the water?" she asked.

He watched Hange fearlessly swimming in the water. He didn't respond but he got up and grabbed her hand. "Come with me."

The water was cold, making him hesitant to step in. She tried tugging on his hand. "Come on, we'll only go up to the knees."

He stepped in, his legs adapting to the temperature of the water. As cold as it was, he liked the feeling of water on his legs- it felt that it reduced his stress. They stayed in for a while until she walked back to land, he followed and sat on the towel under the umbrella.

She sat near the water and played with the sand.

"Hey, (y/n)! I've missed you!" she looked up, it was Rachel. She sat next to (y/n) and hugged her.

"Hi, I missed you too," she smiled.

"You never told me you had a cute friend," Rachel looked back at Levi who was examining the sand.

"Yeah, well you know," she started making a hill with the sand, Rachel helped along.

"Is he single?"

"Yeah." She punched the sand hill.

"Oh, I see... Is he looking for anyone?"

"I don't know."

"Do you think he'd like me?"

"Yeah, who wouldn't?" she replied sarcastically which Rachel didn't pick up.

"Oh, Well, I'm going into the water, do you want to come?"

"No thanks, I just got off."

"Okay!"

Her friend ran off to go into the water. She felt heavy, she was worried that she would charm Levi just like how she was able to charm anyone. Even if he might not like her now, she's able to change his mind effortlessly.

You can't hate her, she is your friend.

"(y/n)!" Hange called out and sat beside her. They started playing with the sand.

"So, I'm getting really close to finding out this walkway thing." she patted on to the sand.

"Oh yeah?" she looked at Hange.

"Yeah, I just need to tweak a few things here and there and we should be able to go back soon." she said. "But not until you kiss shorty over there." Hange nodded towards him.

"So basically, you're saying that you're not going back home?"

"Oh come on, you can do it." Hange pushed.

She was quiet. "Just keep working on the thing Hange. I am the least of your worries right now."

Hange sighed in defeat and just helped her make whatever it was she was making, and eventually, Levi joined in.

"Oh yeah, how's your titan experiments coming along?" She added.

"It's going along well, I just need to work on more experiments with Eren, but I can't exhaust him too much, he might become unable to control his body again."

"There have been too many circumstances when I had to nearly kill that Eren kid because of smart ass over here." He crossed his arms and watched them build.

"By the way, how were you able to mess up my room? There's so much paper in there. I don't even know how you drew that much in the past week." Hange stiffened.

"Because she's insane." Levi quickly responded.

"Well, as long as you are comfortable." She smiled at Hange.

After a while, her friends invited her to swim in the water with them to which Hange and Levi declined to join mainly because Levi thought it was a waste of time and Hange didn't since she was playing with the sand.

Her and her friends played tag in the water as Levi watched.

Chris was the chaer and decided to catch the one in close distance to him which was (y/n). She screamed and tried to swim away but she could not outrun his speed.

Levi heard her laugh as she was tagged by Chris, grabbing her by the waist so she couldn't avoid him. His eyebrow twitched in anger and a click of the tongue escaped his mouth. Hange saw it all and turned her attention to the group of friends.

"You angry?" she said as she went back to playing with the sand.

"Move." was all he could reply and swatted Hange off her spot on the sand. "I'm getting bored watching this shit, I'll just help you make whatever you're making."

He was getting irritated by the sound of laughter and screams from the group in the water.

"Just tell her you like her!" she said, patting the sand with every word.

"Fuck off." he lowered his gaze onto the sand, not even daring to look at Hange with his peripherals. "Our main focus right now is how we're going to keep hiding this from her."

---

She stood outside in her balcony drinking her hot chocolate where she usually sat when she needed a place to think and breathe. The past few days of helping Hange with the experiments have been tedious and somehow has even caused a few minor wounds and injuries, and the beach visit drained her.

Hange balanced her days on doing experiments on the walkway, then she would create theories on titans and study them. Hange was incredibly persistent. However, hard work took a toll on her and she was mentally spent. She immediately went to work on her titan experiments when they arrived home.Tonight she slept early, locking herself in the bedroom where no one could bother her slumber.

"Mind if I join you?" Levi said, holding a cup of hot chocolate through the screen door. The past few days of work have kept them from talking closely to each other and this was the only time they were able to do so.

"Not at all," She smiled at him. "Thought you didn't like hot chocolate?" she asked as he stepped out to stand beside her and lean on the railing.

"Well, I have slightly grown fond of it. I just have to put less sugar." He looked up at the sky.

She found herself staring at him. His eyes shining under the light of the moon. Truly a handsome man. She looked up at the sky as well. "I'm hardly able to appreciate the sky anymore. Everytime I looked up it would be consumed by the sight of titans, I'd forgotten how it looks like." He lightly sighed.

She didn't say anything mainly because she didn't know how to respond. For a while, there was silence between them. It was a comfortable silence- as if both just enjoyed the company of each other.

"Levi," she finally said, he looked at her, but she was looking straight ahead to the building right across. "When you and Hange find a way to create a walkway between our worlds, make sure you come back to visit once in a while. I'll miss you both." she looked down. "I had so much fun hanging out with you and Hange today, even more than my friends."

"Of course." He looked back at the sky. "I would miss you too." she smiled to herself. "And yeah, Hange too." there was another long pause.

"Why did you choose me to be your favourite character?" He asked. "I am nowhere close to relatively interesting. Plus there are other people you could have possibly liked. For instance, there's that brat, Eren. Everyone seems to like him." She gave him a questioning look.

"Is that what you think about yourself?" she laughed lightly and looked back into the building across. "I just think you're cool. I don't know. You're just too unpredictable and confusing." she shrugged. "And you're just badass most of the time, like I always try to be as cool as you, especially when you kill those titans. " She started chopping the air with her hands, causing him to smile lightly.

"And what about me? I have interesting friends and you've met them. They're pretty cool."

"Because." He said, hesitant to continue with his response. She looked at him in anticipation. "Because you aren't as much of a shitty brat as the other people in the book." He said. "And because you deserve more credit than what you actually recieve. I know you're insecure because you feel underappreciated and unimportant from your group of friends." This sounded familiar to her, she was always warned about this. Even her friend, Chris told her she deserved more than she recieves. This is mainly because she hated being selfish and stingy and was taught by her parents that it's far better to give than to recieve.

She set her elbow on the railing and rested her chin in her hand.

"And also because when you talk to your friend, your advice is usually realistic instead. You're harsh when you need to be and don't give stupid illusions." He set down his cup on the table.

"Thank you," she replied. No one has ever really appreciated her for her personality. People were never attracted to her either which would explain why she's never dated anyone.

He looked at her staring off into space being occupied by her thoughts and observed her. She was unaware of the eyes fixated upon her.

"What happened to your hand?" He asked.

She removed her hand from her chin and looked at her hand; a cut was visible on the back of it. "Oh this? I got it from conducting one of Hange's experiments. She needed an sample of my blood. It kinda stings." she glowered at her hand.

"Let me see it." He said, and grabbed her wrist and examined it. "I told you Hange would be dangerous to work with." he lectured.

"Yeah," she laughed.

"Here," he intertwined his hands with her, causing her to blush. She held them back. He stared back straight. She smiled even more, her head about to burst steam like a whistling teapot. Smooth, Levi.

"I must tell you something." He said.

She looked at him. "What is it?" she squeezed his hand.

"Hange and I-"

"Now kiss!" Hange shouted from the other side of the screen door and cut Levi off. She held her hands to her chest and started jumping.

Both (y/n) and Levi were startled and pulled their hands back.

"You fucking shit! I thought you were asleep!" he shouted at her, pissed off. His moment was ruined.

"I needed to use the toilet and I saw that the lights in the kitchen were still open. It's way past midnight, what were you two doing out here?" She put her hands to her cheeks and wiggled her eyebrow.

"Nothing. I'm going to sleep." He said, taking his cup from the table and walking inside.

Hange gave her a thumbs up, "Did you guys kiss?" she whispered, grinning.

"No," she chuckled. "It's time to sleep, Hange. We have things to do tomorrow."

"Okay!" Hange walked back into the room and she followed. She slept on the bed and Hange slept on an air mattress on the floor.

She pondered at what Levi was going to tell her. 'Hange and I'... What was he going to say... she pushed the thought away and went to sleep.
