Chase
She sat on the floor, falling into a daze. Her mind was being occupied by the thought of her two friends; now gone and will probably never come back. The thing she feared the most happened as though a higher being had specifically chosen her and doused her in horrible luck.
Tears were drying up on her face as she was idle for minutes, hoping that they would come back.
And it was not only the result of them leaving unexpectedly, it was also because both her and Levi never resolved the problem. She never got to apologize to him for reacting horribly. Her heart imploded at the thought of it. It was all her fault; the reason that he left and will never come back was all on her shoulders. She felt like it was all a dream- from the moment she met him, up until she woke up that morning. Her life had to continue as it was before she met him.
She got up from the floor as soon as she was able to finally come close to composing herself, wiping the remaining tears off her face with the back of her hand; her cheeks getting irritated with the friction. Her eyes were bloodshot from the tears, considering she had just woken up not too long ago and her eyes were still tired. She slumped her way to the kitchen, basically dragging her feet across the floor, feeling the desolation engulf her. She now had to get used to the life she actually lived.

"What's wrong, (y/n)?" Linda interrupted her from her daze as both were trying to clean up around the store and retuning all the books that ended somewhere else on the store.
"What? What do you mean? I'm fine," she quickly responded, crouching down to get more books.
"Well you seem to be quite distracted today, and you put a cannibal book in the cook book section." she said worryingly, waving the book infront of her. "You want to talk about it?" Her motherly instincts came into play. "I'm here to listen."
She was reluctant to speak, Linda wouldn't believe the crazy story she was living. She stayed silent, but continued to organize the shelves into alphabetical order according to the authors.
"Okay, what's wrong? Is it about family? The economy? Love..?" Linda dragged on the last part as if she teased her, but it was exactly her problem. (y/n) started crying at the mention of it and broke down infront of Linda. Her eyes have failed her; tears streamed out of her eyes like a leaky ceiling.
"Oh honey, come here." Linda pulled her in for an embrace. "Tell me what happened, let's kick that boy's ass." she rubbed her back.
"No.. no, it's okay Linda, it's... it's not like that," she struggled through her sobs. "It's just, this guy that I'm dating, or dated- I don't know... we had a fight a week ago and I kind of over reacted to it... now he's angry with me and he left." she rubbed her face with her hand.
Linda pulled back and gripped onto her shoulders. "Look, okay, okay. What's his name?"
"...Levi." saying his name made her heart drop to her stomach.
"Well, whatever it is that happened, I'm sure you'll get over it- coming from a former single mother- whether it be resolved or not. But my advice to you is that if you really love this Levi kid, you're gonna have to chase after him because I'm sure he's just as sad as you are."
"I would chase after him," she replied, "Just... I'm not sure how to get to him."
"Look, if he really loves you, it's either he'll come back to you or he'll give you a lead to get to him somehow. Sometimes you're the one that's gotta do the chasing." she let go of her shoulders and started helping her with the books. "Like my ex-husband... we had a fight about finances and stuff, and it got kinda serious so we split. And he never really showed me any indication that he was remorseful for fighting with me, and that's how I knew it was best if we weren't together. Now I'm better off with the husband I have now." she smiled.
"Oh yeah? What's his name?" she asked, trying to distract her mind.
"Rick, he's a great guy." Linda replied, trying to find where Oscar Wilde went.
"I'm glad you found someone better," she geuinely smiled.
"The thing is, I didn't think I really loved my first husband, which was why I didn't chase after him. So, if you really love Levi, then chase him. Find every way you can... But don't be creepy, never be creepy. Don't go looking into his bedroom window while he's changing or something." Linda tried to diffuse her sadness.
She chuckled quietly, reassuring Linda that her attempt had worked.
"And done," Linda said, tapping the last book into its place. "Is Levi the one I see picking you up after work?" she said, "the kinda short guy, slightly about your height? Like the one who always looks like he hates being surrounded by giants?" Linda walked away to the back of the store, getting ready to turn on security alarms and she followed behind.
She stifled a laugh, "yeah, yeah, it's the short guy. And he does hate taller people." she slightly lied.
"Ahh, he's cute. I could see why you like him." Linda replied, tapping the code onto the security.
"Yeah, he's really cute... I get the urge to pinch his cheeks but I think he wouldn't like it." she looked down onto her fingers, playing with the hem of her shirt.
Linda giggled, "I know how you feel, Rick's like that too." there was a short silence between them.
"Have you ever... like.. you know..." she said.
"Linda, no! Oh my goodness, we don't think about those things yet!" she started blushing as she followed Linda to the coat rack.
"You innocent things." she laughed. "Well if you need help from me about this problem, or about anything, just tell me alright? Even if it comes down to beating that kid's head in." she put on her coat.
"Yeah, thank you, Linda. Same goes with you... for anything." she smiled at her.
"God, it's getting colder outside isn't it?" she changed the subject.
"Yeah I know, I brought a sweater today since it's too cold to wear just a shirt." she replied.
"Well, Rick is picking me up, so I'll just give you a ride home." she suggested.
"Oh, no! You don't have to, I'm sure he's tired from working or something." she waved her hands infront of her.
"Nah, come on, him? Tired? That man is a businessman, he stays up until the crack of dawn sometimes doing work. This is a nice break for him. Plus you can meet him." she swatted her hand.
"Alright, thank you, Linda." she replied.
They heard a car beep outside of the store.
"That's probably him," Linda walked out and she followed. "yup, it's him. Let's go." she said, closing her coat ready to lock the store.
They got into the car after Linda had locked the store.
"Hey honey," Linda kissed her husband as she got into the car. "we're dropping off (y/n) today, okay?"
"No problem," he said, "Nice meeting you, (y/n). I'm Rick." He added, turning around from the driver's seat to shake her hand.
"Nice to meet you too." she replied.
They talked as they drove on the road, however her mind was still jumbled. She missed him; and seeing such a happy couple infront of her made it feel worse. As much as she liked being around them, she just didn't want to be reminded of what happened.
"Thank you for driving me home guys, be safe." she waved outside of the car, talking through Linda's window.
"No problem, (y/n)" Linda replied. "I'll see you tomorrow. Be safe."
She walked away into her apartment building, trying to avoid staying in the cold for too long.
She sighed upon reaching her door, exhausted from the stress. But she found a slight comfort in her work, not having to think too much about her current situation.
She put her key into the door, and to her luck, it was not the right key. God damn it I always do this, she thought. I need to start marking these. I don't even know how many keys I have.
She tried again with a different key and felt the lock unhitch. "Finally" she sighed to herself as she opened the door.
A blast of light nearly blinded her, like a morning light. She adjusted her eyes and became petrified of not seeing a familiar room. She removed her keys and put it into her bag, nearly missing the pocket from being too distracted by the room.
The room she had walked into was entirely different, she could almost say, old. The floors were wooden and the walls were made of stone and was much warmer than the hallway outside. She could hear people talking outside in the other side of the room where it looked to be the door to the hallway.
When she looked back, the hallway of her apartment was gone. It looked to her like an empty closet. She knew exactly where she was.
(A/N) Hello again! It's me.
So 2.6K reads is CRAZY, really guys. I'm so happy. I honestly did not expect this. I just started writing this fanfiction because it's been stuck in my head for forever and I've wanted to try my hand at writing. I honestly appreciate your comments and votes. It means so much to me and it encourages me to keep writing these chapters.
Sorry it takes forever to update, but I get really conscious since it might not be too good to publish sometimes.
BTW sorry again for making this kind of a filler.
The one shots will be completed soon. Requests are available.
Once again, thank you for reading!
