Chapter Two: Temptation
The only thing he can think about is the package the parrot needed to bring to manage Ratchet's hunger. The night was quiet, no visitors at all, and still it didn't show. Two nights in a row. He specifically said he'd never do this. What happened? Ratchet worried. I hope he gets something here soon, I may not make it another day without... no. I can't do that to her.
A dull pain grew in his stomach. Not now! He held his abdomen and curled into a tight ball as the pain intensified. A strangled sound emitted from his throat as Ratchet held his pose. At last, the pain subsides to a small stomachache, allowing the lombax to relax and spread back out onto the rest of the bed, his breathing heavy.
It's yours only chance at survival, creature. A small and deep voice accompanied him from the depths of his mind. He has abandoned you, leaving you to starve. But now food is just down the hall. Don't ignore me. That's right. Look at her. Sleeping. Peaceful. Full of food. He stood by her door. No. Come now, creature. Eat. You must. No I don't. He turned his head away from her to leave, but his body wouldn't move. Yes. Yes you do. He approached her. Stop! Why? I can't do this to her. If you don't feed soon, you will die. How long do I have? He was staring at her neck now. The voice sighed. Two nights. Good, plenty of time. I will make it very difficult for you, creature. Bring it on. He forced himself away from the bed and out of Talwyn's room, returning to his own.
