Chapter Fourteen

The air was cool against her skin. She was no longer in her grandmother's home, now she stood in front of a lake. It all seemed so familiar, as if it was a place she had visited frequently. Suddenly she heard a woman humming. She turned and watched as a figure walked slowly towards her.
"Hello." The woman said standing beside her and Kira froze.
It was like looking into a mirror, this woman could've been her twin. Kira was speechless and the woman smiled, as if she knew every thought running through Kira's mind.
"Who are you?" Kira asked after recovering from the inital shock. "Where am I?"
The woman looked at the lake and answered, "I am you, from another time. Or to be more technical, I am a memory of who you once were. You are in Elita's house, but you are also sleeping. You are also in danger."
"I already know that, Amon's brother is trying to kidnap me."
The woman laughed, "That is not important. No..." her eyes grew distant, "You are in far worse danger than that. There are many things you do not know. Many things those who wish to protect you do not know. They might have bits and pieces but..." she looked at Kira and said, "It is time for you to remember. However I need your help."
Kira looked at the woman and asked, "My help?"
The woman nodded, "Yes, that was a powerful spell your mother and grandmother cast to suppress your powers. At the time it was nessecasry so I allowed it. Now it's time for it to be undone. I will help you, but I need you to do it."
"How do I know I can trust you?" Kira asked suspiciously.
This all seemed to convient. This woman who claimed to be her, wanting to help her.
The woman was silent again for a while before she began to hum. The melady relaxed her, made her feel safe.
"Okay." Kira said softly realizing the woman would not be answering her question.
The woman smiled and reached out touching Kira's forehead and closing her eyes. "All I need is for you to remember."
She began humming again and Kira began to feel light headed. And then suddenly the woman stopped humming and her fingers fell away from Kira's forehead. She looked at Kira her expression sad.
"It is time for you to wake up..." the woman said softly.
Kira was now confused. Nothing happened at all. Maybe this was nothing more than a dream. The woman started to hum again and Kira suddenly felt cold creeping over her, settling into her skin as the woman began to fade. Yet the humming remained, surrounding her. Wrapping around her as the cold intensified. Kira suddenly felt dizzy and she feel to the ground. The grass wet against her skin. She felt as if she were dying and she somehow managed to roll over, her eyes staring at the sky as ran began to fall and beat against her skin. She closed her eyes and suddenly everything was silent. The coldness remained and she kept her eyes shut. The image of a door appeared in her head, a door covered in chains with three locks. The door was dark, and old. Yet the chains and locks glowed yellow and gold. Suddenly the locks opened one by one and the chains that covered the door feel away. Suddenly the door creaked and then began to open, and she felt the warmth of it all. And she began to remember.

Her eyes flew open and she gasped for air. It felt as if she had been drowing and someone had saved her at the last moment. Her breathing was heavy as she felt her grandmother checking her pulse. Worry written in her face. Kira said nothing as her eyes wandered around the room and fell on Amon who leaned against the wall, his eyes focused on her. It did not show on his face but she knew he had been worried as well. She did not remeber everything, but she remembered enough.
Back when she was a child, back when her grandmother helped her banish him from this world. She remebered that she had been scared, that someone had tried to kill her and he had saved her. He head began to throb and she sat up.
"I need you to lay down," Elita began.
Kira ignored her and stood, and stumbled towards him. He pushed off of the wall and appeared in front of her, catching her as she almost fell.
"How long?" She asked. Her eyes never wavering from his.
He grimanced and responded, "It depends. How much do you remember."
The sharp pain cut through her skull but she tried to breathe through it. "I remember a man trying to kill me when I was a child. I remember it was you who saved me."
"Kira?" Elita questioned.
Kira continued to ignore her, the only thing she dared to focus on was him. She saw images, the flooded her mind. She knew the images were the reason for the pain. They were coming back so fast that her brain couldn't process them.
"He came to me after school and I knew something was off so I let him take me to an empty park. He was going to kill me and you appeared and stopped him. He said that I had to die." Kira paused and said, "Because Kushiel had failed to kill me before."
Elita gasped and Amon nodded his head before saying, "Kira..."
"But I did die didn't I?" Kira asked as the memories tried to sort themselves. "He did kill me before."
Amon looked at her as the pain became unbearable. Then she felt something hit her and she was thrust into darkness again.

"Well that was dangerous." Lenwood said as he looked at Amon.
Amon held her slumped body in his arms and said, "More dangerous than blunt force trama?"
Lenwood shrugged, "I'd rather she wake up with a headache, then for suppressed memories to drive her insanse. She's powerful, the fact that she sorted through that much can attest to that. But even powerful witches have their limits. Besides..." he let his sentence trail off as his eyes found Elita who looked as if she had seen a ghost.
"You had no idea?" Lenwood said in wonder.
Elita looked at him and questioned, "But you did?"
"Of course I knew, my..." he paused when realization hit him. Right around the time Elita got it.
She and his mother had once been best of friends. Kassandra was the only witch who knew a spell that could do that. Her sister Kira, the witch with whom her granddaughter thought was a further removed ancestor. That her sister Kira had gone to Kassandra, how Kassandra knew this whole time. Her eyes narrowed.
"Why? Why would my sister do this?" Elita demanded and her son in law lifted his hands.
"I don't know mother in law," he said his temper rising, "Maybe you should ask your sister? Or wait my daughter who is your sisters reincarnation? I'm sure she will explain to you if she has memories of that time."
Elita's frown deepened, it was Kushiel who had been responsible for killing her sister. Elita knew that she had done it to stop the war brewing between witches, demons, and angel's because it was her very exsistence that threatened the existence of man kind. So why would she use magic to cheat death? Her eyes flew to Amon who stood holding Kira bridal style in his arms. He looked at Alina who had been listening to everything out of sight. She returned his gaze. Thousands of thoughts ran through her mind. Yet one stood out. She and Kira were born the exact same day at the exact same time. Not only that, her father had died and she know knew her uncle knew more than he let on. She and Kira were both in the dark about so many things and they probably needed to depend on one another to get the answers.
"You asked me if I would protect her." Alina said, "And I will." 'We will protect each other.' Alina thought to herself.
Amon nodded and said "than come on." She took a step forward and before anyone could react, they were gone.
