Easter
A poem about Easter.
On this day, Easter day, many things come to mind.
The laughter of children, little bunettes, searching for their find.
In the gayety of the young, of candy baskets and colored eggs, a tear escapes my eye.
Longing for the naivete I once possessed, I wish to stay young, never to decay and die.
I see a chocolate bunny buried by a mountain of sweets.
Its eyes peek out at me, wishing to be in my seat.
I lick him up, my hunger not physical.
He becomes real, he movement too whimsical.
He is no longer the bunny, but the great rabbit of valor.
Shame flees my soul, no longer am I in squaller.
He is wise but ignorant all at once.
Bringing me peace and contentment until my time is done.
I close my eyes, consumed by his light.
I am blind to his absence, gone with my sight.
Goodbye, great rabbit of valor,
But the sun still shines on this new world of color.
Everywhere I look, I see his presence filling me with joy.
In this I have no sense.
I am now a child again, if only in my heart.
A rekindled truth comes to me, one I have known from the start.
Easter comes, and Easter goes.
But it stays for always in each of our souls.
