Dolls and trucks
Wrote this my first year of college.
Lost in our grown-up world.
Freedom gone with yesterday.
I vaguely remember the face of that girl,
Lost to love, lost to faith.
How I wish to play again.
In the grove of white horses,
I think of this now and then
Of innocent lives on its courses.
The days of dolls and trucks,
Far in the distance.
The days of feeding chickens and ducks
In the petting zoo far beyond reach.
Left here to work nine to five.
Is the only course to take.
What I'd give to feel alive,
A time when children ran for the promise of cookies and cake.
Come to make, lonely girl,
Your existence not at an end.
Give me the key to enter your world,
To run free through the green meadow once again
Gone to those days of dolls and trucks,
Far beyond the distance.
The days of feeding chickens and ducks
In the petting zoo far beyond reach.
