92 - Fights!

Everything is over! My love, my wedding, my life.......everything is gone.

Now it's only me and my family!

Sonakshi Bose is back!

----------------

It was morning nine a.m. and the environment in Sonakshi's house was so tensed. Her parents had finally decided to have an one to one conversation with her. Sona was sitting and having her morning coffee when the doors began to bang. The voice of Dev raised to a crescendo of rage, making everyone panic.

Asha and Bejoy got stunned by the sudden noise while Sonakshi barely blinked. She was already expecting this reaction from Dev. Without saying anything, she picked up her coffee mug, phone and walked back to her room like she was not even aware of anything. Elena who was gawking the whole scene, quickly rushed and opened the door which was now at the verge of breaking.

Once the door was opened Dev marched in with a few papers. His face exploded with unrestrained fury and he looked dangerously intimidating. His hair was messed up and he was dressed in his casuals instead of his formal suits.

"Where is Sonakshi?" he gritted as Bejoy got irritated and walked towards Dev.

"She is exactly where she is supposed to be... and mister, this is not your house to walk in like this! She doesn't want to meet you. So, I would appreciate if you leave right now!" Bejoy spoke as Dev's anger reached to its peak.

"I want to talk to MY WIFE! YOU GOT THAT? And no one can stop me from talking to her......" he said and turned towards Asha who went speechless over the situation.

She clearly didn't know how she could deal with this situation, especially between Dev and her husband. Both of them were equally stubborn and supporting just one of them would cause a great dispute in the family.

"Maa, I need to talk to Sonakshi! Now...."he spoke as she looked at Bejoy then turned back to Dev.

"Dev.......... I think this isn't the right time-"

"If this isn't the time, then there is no more time left. How could you support her?" he asked as Asha stood stunned looking at his hard staring eyes that never blinked.

"Dev.... What are you talking about?" she asked confused.

"This! I am talking about THIS!" he said shoving the papers harshly on the dining table. Before she could take a look at the papers, Dev dashed across her and made his way to Sonakshi's room.

When Bejoy went to stop him, Asha glared at him and said,

"Don't..... just let him go! This is between them. Let them handle it. If you stop him now, then maybe you will regret this for lifelong...."

"But Asha.... What if he hurts our daughter again? You already know her condition na? And this man...... He has no control over his temper! Did you see how he behaved?" Bejoy exclaimed.

"Yea.... He was throwing tantrums because his life is at stake. He is broken beyond repair...... because our daughter has sent him these divorce papers!" Asha's voice trembled as she handed Bejoy the legal notice that Dev had just handed her.

"What..... Divorce?"

-----------------

"Sonakshi! Open the damn door....... I am here to talk. Not argue or anything! Can we spend like ten minutes to talk like mature adults?" Dev gritted through his teeth, trying to control his anger but he just couldn't.

Ever since he saw the divorce paper, he felt emotionally bankrupt. His hopes and dreams were annihilated with the stroke of a pen. The news passed through him like a hurricane He never thought that Sonakshi was serious about the divorce when she told him about it. But the moment, the legal notice landed on his doorstep, reality hit him. She wasn't speaking out of anger. But was dead serious about leaving him. However, this time he wasn't going to lose her. Not even if it was her decision.

After ten minutes of constant knockings, the door flung open to reveal an extremely angry Sonakshi.

"What the hell? Do you want to leave yourself or let me call the police to file an abuse case on you?" she screamed as he stood stunned.

"I said I wanted to talk. Simple as that.... What's there to abuse?" he huffed as she tried to close the door on his face. But Dev was stronger than that.

He pushed the door and walked inside the room forcefully making Sonakshi irritated by his presence. Dev made his every move with care as he knew that Sonakshi was still under depressed state.

"So, can we talk like adults now?" he asked folding his hands.

For the first time, Sonakshi looked into his eyes and she immediately regretted. His eyes displayed such an intensity which she had never seen in him. Her blood drained and heart hammered erratically. She was never afraid of his anger which came like a fire to burn her down. She was deathly afraid of his cold and unpredictable look. He wanted to have that conversation by hook or crook.

"Look....I know you are upset but-" she was stopped by Dev.

"Upset? Upset is an understatement. I am not even sure what I am feeling right now.... This has got to be a joke because I know that you are not that type of person who could take such a decision which is so unreasonable and tragic!"

"I have got no choice other than this.........because I don't want to live with you!" her words came out harsher than what she had expected.

"That hurts, Sona. But I am not forcing you to come with me right away. Take your time. I don't care..... Even if it's a year or so..... But divorce is not a joke, Sonakshi." he spat.

"I never said it was. I took our marriage so seriously and that was the only reason I didn't leave you the moment your family accused me of a middle class, gold digger!" she said as rage was evident in her eyes.

"So now, it was all my fault isn't it?" he asked as she raised her eyebrows.

"Is it not? Tell me, Dev?"

"Sona-"

"You suspected me Dev.... With who? Neil? Didn't you know how much I loved you? You went that low to prove your point, didn't you? You believed some random pictures, your cousin, your mother, your mami, the office colleagues and useless proves..... But not even once..... Not even once" she choked and continued.

"You didn't even listen to what I had to say!........... But now, I am not going to commit the same stupidity. I will listen to everything you say because I know how it feels when you are not heard out." she spoke as Dev stood rooted at his place. His heart hurt so much when she spoke that way.

"I know.... I did wrong back then. And I truly regret it Sona. I know.... Saying a small sorry won't change anything. I know it wouldn't heal the pain in you. But can't we at least try? Why divorce? I mean.... I am ready to do anything you say. I even filed a case against Nisha. I have stopped talking to my mum ever since your accident. I am willing to do anything to make our relationship work. Just give this a chance please. Don't take such a big decision in haste...." He pleaded as Sonakshi stood unmoved about the situation.

"No. I can't live in that house with you anymore-"

"Then let's move out." He finished as she looked at him with wide eyes.

"That wouldn't change the anger and hurt I have against you..." she said softly as she turned behind facing the wall.

Dev noticed the change in her demeanour and knew that this would be the best time he could convince her. He didn't want to force or drag her back by force. All he wanted was to apologize. But she wasn't even letting him see her.

"You don't have to change anything.... I am not even asking you to forgive me..." he spoke although it pained him to say those words.

"I can't do that even if you ask me to....... Because of your anger and blindness, I lost my child," she said as her voice broke into small sobs.

"Our child....." he said clenching his eyes.

"You have no rights to say that anymore! Where did this 'claiming' attitude go, when you accused Neil as my ex-boyfriend? Thank god you didn't know about my pregnancy earlier... I can't imagine what else you could have blamed me.... Maybe you could have blamed that this child-"

"Stop just STOP!" he roared.

He grabbed her shoulders and squeezed them tightly in his anger as they burned holes into each other's eyes. His own glistened over fresh tears as he let her go.

"Don't you think I've replayed that day over and over again in my mind for the past few months? Why are you trying to push me so much? Don't you think you held at least one percent of fault in those events? If you would have confronted me about Neil and everything way before things have gotten worse, I would have stayed with you through thick and thin. But what did you do? You hid things! You kept hiding until those evil ladies in my house set up a perfect plan!" Dev yelled as Sonakshi just cried with her eyes casted on the floor.

"I wasn't hiding.... I was just scared...." She cried, sounding utterly vulnerable.

"I know... I am just dumb. Please come back." he spoke softly, hearing her voice break.

"Please go away Dev. Just go. I can't stop loving you. You betrayed my affections and left my heart in a shattered disarray of pieces. Every single time you stole a part of me, and you make it impossible for me to put myself together. And yet, I always come back to you. Why? Perhaps I hoped that you would return what you've stolen. But you never do that. You just take more. And for you, more is never enough. I am alive now... yet vulnerable to any gust. I still feel the pain........ So much raw pain and I can't be broken anymore."

"Don't say that...."

"It's the truth Dev.... Maybe we were never meant to be together. You should marry someone your mother likes.... Or maybe Nisha herself. Because until she is alive, she won't let anyone take the place as your wife.... Why make others suffer?" Sonakshi scowled as she walked to him and pushed him towards the door.

"No, I hate that witch Nisha. Don't push me away..... Please don't say that. I know I did a grave mistake. But it wasn't intentional. You know how much I love you right?" Dev pleaded.

"No, I don't Dev. In fact, I don't know you at all. The Dev who once loved me is gone long time back. The minute he abandoned me alone, I had lost him. And I don't think I will ever see him again. " she yelled and turned away. But the minute she turned, her eyes went wide.

Suddenly there was a sharp pain that shot up her spine, which made her gasp and hold the headboard of the bed. Her eyes shut in pain as she felt her whole body shaking. Her muscles felt as though they had been burned with acid from the insides. Dev who was watching this, was completely shocked. Before she could sit down on the bed, Dev suddenly pulled her into his arms, taking her by surprise.

"Dev what the-"

"Shhh....just relax..." he said as he gently rubbed her back. As Dev stroked her hair, her breathing slowed. He gently massaged her back up to her shoulder until her pain fully subsided. That simple touch was enough to send a wave of butterflies coursing through her veins, fluttering their wings and easing the dread that had settled inside her. But she decided to ignore those feelings and slowly pulled away from his embrace to look up at him.

"What happened?"

"That's the back pain you get when you exert yourself too much. You used to get this sometimes after your accident... I think you got it now, because you didn't take your medicines for quite some time...." He said giving her the worried look.

At that moment, she just knew..... No one could understand her more than him. He knew her more than himself. The amount of attention he gave her was something no one could ever replace in her life..... and just that reality, made it so difficult for her to proceed with her thoughts.

"Ouh.....Okay.... Thanks for taking care of me all this while. Now you can go." She said heartlessly as he gave her a pained look.

"What?"

"Don't make this difficult for me Dev... Just go"

"What do you mean by go? Where do I go? I don't want to go anywhere...... In fact I don't want that divorce at all. Look Sonakshi.... I am damn tired of fighting with the whole world for the past five months.... It's too much for me. Look, even when we had disputes, I agree that I walked away from you like a coward. I ran away from the problems, ran away from my house...... But not even once, I thought of divorce. Hell, it didn't even cross my mind at any point of time." He said with a burning intensity

"What do you want then?" she asked with tears in her eyes. She felt too exhausted and irritated with him. She felt like she couldn't even express her feelings to him properly as she was still intimidated by him at times.

"I want you to come with me and start a new life..... Start all over. I will give you the happiness and freedom that you have always desired. I swear, I will trust my life upon you. I will listen to anything you say as long as you just give us a chance... No divorce please. Giving you a divorce is equivalent to killing myself." he said desperately trying to convince her.

"How do you expect me to forget everything and start a new life with you? Aren't you selfish? You are always thinking about yourself. Isn't this always about you?" she exclaimed, kneeling down and covering her face with her palms. She sobbed uncontrollably until her whole face became red.

"Please leave me..........I don't want to live with you anymore....... This is the only thing I am asking you! Won't you grant me at least this much of freedom?" she cried as it was getting difficult for Dev to control his emotions.

Dev sighed as he knew all these words weren't hers. She was too depressed and wasn't thinking straight now. He didn't want to disturb her more. She was already crying too much till her tears had dried up and her face was swollen. If he allowed her to cry more, then her health would be at a greater risk.

"Ok fine............ Stop crying. I will leave." He said emotionlessly.

All his anger vanished once he saw the poor soul crying at his feet. He didn't want to force this relationship on her anymore. If she had taken this decision so strongly, then she should have definitely thought a lot about this. If she didn't want to be with him, then he wasn't going to force her anymore... he had tried his best. He should have treasured her when she was with him but he took her for granted. Now it was just too late.

Now, he was being punished for his sins.

Sonakshi's face became rigid. She didn't know whether she heard him right or not. The usual Dev she knew would have displayed his anger by maybe breaking things, but the person she was seeing, didn't do anything. He stood there like a broken soul.

His lethal stare felt painful and piercing, as if his glare was tearing her heart apart with a blinding teal light.

"What? I mean.....you-"

"I will give you the divorce if that's what you want. I am sorry for all the troubles I had given you so far. Please forgive me......if you can....." he said and left the place.

Sonakshi's eyes widened as she couldn't believe what she was hearing. He had given up.... Yes he did and she should be relieved right? But she wasn't....

Wasn't that what she wanted? For him to leave her? Yes. She had taken the decision to leave him so that she could move on from her bitter past and become a strong person again. With him, those memories would forever haunt her and she could never become the old person she was.

'Leaving him was the right decision...' she muttered to herself. She tried to brush away unnecessary thoughts but no matter how much she tried it pricked. The fact that he really left, stung hard.

Her dark lashes brimmed heavily with tears as her hands clenched into shaking fists, desperately battling against the grief.

Have I done the right thing?

--------------

Dev walked down the stairs while Asha and Bejoy were sitting there in a dilemma. By his expressions and the chaos which happened, Asha knew everything was not right but somewhere, she had faith in Dev.

"Dev..... Did you talk to her? What is she saying? Did you try explaining everything to her?" Asha inquired impatiently.

"No maa..... Everything is pointless. She wants a divorce and she is firm in it...." He said as his voice was shaky.

"What?" Asha gasped as Bejoy was also in shock.

"Yes.... So I have decided to give her what she wants. I don't want her to hate me more than she already is...." He said slowly kneeling down to pick the divorce papers.

"So, are you going to leave my daughter alone again?" Bejoy asked with a stern tone. He was angry with Dev. But somewhere deep inside, he too did not want Dev to proceed with the divorce.

"Isn't that what you wanted uncle? You always said I tortured her and gave her miseries..... Now she wants to become free from her miseries. So, I am just going to sign this." He said trying to make a joke out of his grief.

"Dev.... What madness is this? Sona is talking nonsense because she is not thinking straight. Give her some time..... Let us talk to her as well." Asha said but Dev gave no heed. He quickly took out a pen and signed the papers before he could completely break down.

"Here maa, just give these to her. At least after this, she will be happier..." he said as Asha just gave him a disbelieving look.

"Dev..... I thought you would convince her? Why did you do this?" she asked as Dev just smiled.

"This is the only thing she ever asked me since the time she married me......"
