42 - Wedding Bells!!!
"Hmm....That day.........in the temple, you wanted to say something about my mum right? What was that about?" he asked as I froze on my spot.
Oh my god....No!!!
-----------------------
Sona's POV
"Devvv........" I trailed as I didn't know what to tell him.
"Tell me Sonakshi."
"I can't tell you Dev. At least not a day before the wedding..." I trailed.
"Why not?"
"I don't think you would believe me...." I said although it hurt when the words came out.
"Fine..." he sighed wearily.
"Next question............ That day you were having back pain, right? Was it really because you fell down?" he asked. I realized that Dev was in full form today and there was no escape. He desperately wanted answers. Should I really tell him?
"No..." I said and looked down.
"What happened?" he asked with a gasp. He was now looking more serious.
"Someone pushed me." I said almost close to a whisper..
"WHO???" he screamed. I closed his mouth, fearing that someone may barge in. What was he thinking?
"Dev!!!!" I warned as he ignored my pleas and looked at me with anger.
"It was the same person who claimed herself as Neha" I replied making him freeze. He looked at me for a while trying to get any hints from my facial expressions but when he got none, he spoke.
"Is this a joke?"
"No....... This is my honest answer!"
"And why didn't you tell me about it?" he asked patiently.
"Because I knew you wouldn't trust me... and your accusations might break me even more" I said.
I was confused over Dev's behaviour at this point of time. I really didn't know whether he trusted me or not. But I knew that he trusted Nisha more than me. That was sure! She had been there for him when he needed someone. Revealing about Nisha now would be the worst timing.
"Are you ever planning to tell me everything?" he asked drilling holes through my face.
"Of course, Dev! When I have evidence, I will definitely tell you everything..." I said, squeezing his hands.
He closed his eyes and left a painful sigh. I could tell that he was extremely angry with the answers that he got and this one was just another major truth. I knew all this were too much for him but I had no choice.
"Just remember....Once I get hold of that person, I won't think twice of strangling her to death!" he said and I gulped nervously.
There was a long silence after that. After some time, Dev gave me a weak smile before continuing his questions.
"So urmm.... Next question??" I asked him while he stared at me and nodded.
"Does....Jatin knows about you more than me?" he asked with an extremely cute pout. I couldn't resist from smiling at him. Of course, it took a lot of courage for him to ask me that.
"Yes..." I replied with a smile as he rolled his eyes. I could sense that he was jealous that I somehow shared more things with Jatin than him. But could he blame me for that?
I quickly climbed on top of his lap and made him face me. I scooted closely towards his ears and whispered.
"Dev.... Everyone pour their emotions and tell their deepest secrets to their diaries. But at the end of the day, the diary is just abandoned in some drawer and the secrets are forever etched in your heart...........The diary is just a tool for distraction....and the heart is the permanent place, where more secrets will arise and live forever." I told him as he looked at me confused. Buddhu!
"Dev......Jatin is like my diary........and you are my heart. He knows most of my secrets. However, there are certain things even the diary doesn't know....But you....you are someone who will stay with me forever.....like my heart.... and discover all my secrets even without me having to say it to you." I said softly while Dev gave up hiding his smile and grinned widely.
His arms wrap tightly around my waist as he turned us over on my bed so that now, I was laying under him.
"Ok....so last question......... How much do you love me?" he asked grinning like an idiot.
"Dev..... I love you so much Dev!!!I am completely in love with you! You own every part of me, especially my heart. It was yours even before I had realized it. I've fallen so irrevocably in love with you that there's no hope for recovery! Even if I lose my memory my heart will fall in love with you, again and again.... My love for you is too strong Strong..." I said staring at him lovingly.
His eyes turned the softest I've ever seen, reddening slightly making me frown. As I opened my mouth to speak, he interrupted.
"Say it again..." he whispered staring at me intensely, giving me no choice but to comply.
"I love you...Love you soooo badly!!!" I whispered as his lips stretched into a wide smile and pressed a kiss to my forehead before he got up from the bed and left the place quietly.
---------------------------------
It was a big day for me! Last night's conversation was still playing on my mind as a small smile left my face. I couldn't believe he sneaked into my house like that! It was like a dreamy Romeo and Juliet play!
I woke up earlier than usual as I couldn't sleep. It was officially my last day at my parent's house and I was too nervous about the wedding rituals and procedures. I went to take a shower before the make-up artist and the other guests arrived.
*End of POV*
After a long shower, Sonakshi carefully got dressed. Pooja came early to help her with the saree. The stylists tied her hair in a heavy bun. A heavy solid gold set adorned with rubies were set against the collar of the necklace. The long broad earrings were all gifted from Dev's side. She wasn't a fan of jewelleries. Hence she felt suffocated with the heavy jewels around her neck and hanging from her ears that it almost hurt.
She looked at the mirror after the makeup and hairstyle was done. She looked fine. She did not know why but she didn't feel like admiring herself that day. At noon all her relatives crowded in the house, complimenting her on her beauty. Her mother came inside and laid the heavily designed and veil on her head, thus completing her look. Asha and Pooja's mum came to pick her up to take her to the wedding hall and soon enough, they were being driven to the huge hall, Delhi's famous marriage hall mostly known for the rich ones!
Sonakshi was still moody when the thought of leaving her family crossed her. Her heart jolted at the thought!
Our wedding! My wedding...Oh my god! I'm getting married, I can't believe this! I'm about to lose my freedom. I am getting married in a house where there will be no respect, happiness and peace. A cunning mother in-law, a crazy cousin and weird mami. Should I stop the marriage? Yes, I should....its not too late Sona! Stop this...
Her heart was wrenching. Weird thoughts were corrupting her mind when she was brought back from her reveries by her mum.
"What happened Sona?" Asha asked as Sona just looked at her with pain. She couldn't bring the courage in her to tell her mother what she felt.
When she saw her mother's eyes flashing with happiness and glimmer with delight, she forgot about all the sorrows. She felt guilty. How could she ever think about taking that happiness away from their lives? If getting her married to a man whose family is horrible made them feel satisfied, then she would really try! She will try and make her marriage a real one and work it out.
Suddenly a new confidence formed in her. She was hopeful. There is always a brighter side to every situation, she thought.
When they stepped in the hall, Sonakshi was led to the lobby area where she took the blessings of all the elders from the groom's side. Although all of them had a weird frown on their faces, Sonakshi decided to ignore them and go with the flow.
Sona was led to the stage are. Sonakshi looked around and spotted all the familiar faces around her. Elena, Pooja, Natasha, Riya, their college friends, working colleagues and all of their relatives were surrounding the stage. Her father came to her and gently patted her head.
"My lovely daughter.....I am so proud of you, beta." He muttered to her, his voice gruff and eyes glistening with unshed tears. Sonakshi smiled and side hugged her father.
When the baarat arrived, everyone from Sonakshi's side stood with silent anticipation.
Jatin came forward from the door as Dev entered with his mother and father accompanying him on his sides, while his mami, Nisha and Neha followed behind. He was dressed in a lavish golden sherwani that had light red and silver embroidery in the middle. He looked dashing as his jaw was clean shaven. He looked sexy in almost all the colours. Sona's shoulders tensed as he walked in with grace.
He was led to the stage and he sat beside her while Sonakshi lowered her gaze.
When Dev saw her, he felt that his world would stop. Truly, Sonakshi was the most breathtakingly stunning woman he had ever seen. Sonakshi felt his heated gaze on her face and her cheeks became hot with crimson. Slowly, she mustered the courage to look at him and lifted her head to look at the man who was going to be her husband in a few minutes.
She drew a sharp breath, noticing how handsome the guy she had fallen in love with looked like. He was going to be her husband in a few minutes. Her other half!
Their eyes immediately connected.
It was as if in that moment, it was just the two of them feeling connected just by their gaze. It was feeling unlike anything they have ever felt before. They were so lost until the chants from the priest disturbed them.
Blushing, Sonakshi looked away while Dev clicked his tongue in annoyance.
The priest lit up the sacred fire once they were done exchanging the garland's which was a moment of awe, since Dev bent his head down infront of her even before Sona could fight for it. The priest started chanting the hymns that were binding the two of them together, forever and ever.
"They look so perfect together..." Pooja whispered dreamily linking her arms with Jatin.
"Well... Seeing them, I feel like getting married again too." Jatin teased while Pooja hit his arms, covering her blush.
"Now you may stand up and take the vows..." the priest instructed as both Dev and Sonakshi stood from their places. Dev held Sonakshi's hands tightly as he stepped ahead to take his first vow. After the vows were done they sat down on the opposite direction as it was time for him to fill her partition on the forehead with the vermilion.
Dev pinched from the box that the priest offered. Sona's eyes closed on their own accord like every other girl who waits for the moment where she joins her name with someone else's.
He stared at her face with love and slowly, applied the vermilion on her forehead as a lone tear skipped her left eye. The hall busted with applauds and cheers. Sonakshi felt too many emotions choke her throat as she recalled how much she had anticipated this day.
It was a struggle of so many years.
"Now you may tie the mangalsutra!" the priest announced, bringing Sona back from her reverie.
When Ishwari opened the box to take the black-beaded necklace from the velvet pouch she stood frozen on the spot.
"Where is the mangalsutra?" she asked shockingly, making the entire crowd gasp!
