☾0.3| Family Legacy
"I love it here." Salem gushed as she spoke loudly over the crowd of people, standing in the middle of the Weasleys shop the trio had taken her to. Salem's eyes danced with so much joy it was easy to confuse her as somehow who was having a sugar high despite the only thing she'd had was a few of the twins treats they'd basically stuffed down her throat the moment she arrived.
"I don't know what it is you're going on about, Harry, don't you remember us learn about her mother last year? Salem has no choice but to be a Slytherin." Ron said as he grumbled at the end, " A shame that is, I was just starting to like her."
"But she's scared of snakes, deathly afraid as she said." Harry spoke to his taller friend, staying close by as the three searched for her through the large crowd.
"Wasn't her father a Gryffindor? You do realize she could easily be on our side. Honestly, where is your common sense, Ronald?" Hermione asked with a scoff as they spotted the girl spinning in the slightest.
"Having fun?" Harry asked as Salem looked his way, her eyes wide, making them appear even eviler then they usually were.
"The best, Ron, I adore your family." Salem said as she linked their arms, looking up at the bright lights .
"So you've mentioned." Ron said with a eye roll as Hermione smacked his arm.
"Give the poor girl a break, she's new to all this." she scolded them as Harry lead the three out.
"Hi, Ron." a voice spoke, making Salem and Ron come to a halt to look back at a girl with spiral curls, giving the Weasley boy a sweet smile.
"Hi." he said back softly before the two were off again.
"She was so beautiful." Salem gushed as she smacked Ron's shoulder making him give her a crazy look.
"Bloody hell, what was that for?" he asked while unlinking their arms to rub the area.
"Are you as dumb as a box of rocks? She fancy's you." Salem spoke to him in a hush tone while the newly bonded duo caught up with Harry and Hermione not to far before them.
"She does not." Ron argued with her as Salem gave him a look of disbelief.
"What are the two of you going on about now?" Hermione asked, hearing to much of the back and forth between the two recently.
"Nothing, darling, simply pointless bickering." Salem waved her off as she hummed, giving Harry a grin as he held the door open for them.
"That might have been the most delightful atmosphere i've ever been in, truly, I'd rather be there then in my lovely dreams were I take a dive into a pool of biscuits." Salem spoke as she waved to the shop, Hermione not being able to hold back her laugh as Salem turned to her with raised eyebrows.
"Pool of biscuits?" the Granger girl asked as Salem hummed and nodded her head.
"Yes, right next to a lake of tea, honey roast I believe it was." Salem said as she tried to recall her memory.
"This is all you dream?" Harry asked with a chuckle as the four made their way down the small ally.
"Rarely, this was a once in a life time experience, meaning it was my favorite place until you lovely people took me here." Salem spoke as she walked between the three, her sleeve brushing against Harry's elbow every time she'd take a step forward.
"Oh no, everyone got their wands from Olivanders." Hermione spoke sadly as she looked up at the shop that was closed down much like everywhere else was. Salem looked up at the place, making out how it clearly was once a nice shop to be while it was now dark and shut down, dark like her eyes as Harry would say.
The Potter boy lead the three into the store, the door creaking as he opened it. Salem's eyes looked around the room, the golden specks dancing within them from the Weasleys shop now flattening to nothing but sadness as she peared around the once wand shop.
"Seems like it was once a lovely place, truly." Salem said as Hermione put a hand on her back to pull her along. Salem's feet drug on the floor, following after her new friends that she adored more then anything at the moment. The truth was the girl never really had friends, always being taught from home by her Grandfather and never staying in one spot long enough to befriend anyone. But she managed to have three along with the twins and Ginny in less the twenty four hours, Salem assumed she would be more then happy with the six in her life and knew she wouldn't necessarily need anyone else.
She did know her grandfather always talk to her about love and how she would want it sooner or later. But he was wrong, Salem always wanted to find the idea of love somewhere, someone to take up her time and put all her energy into. She did want that as well, but who's to say she could ever actually be loved in that way, she didn't know, nor did she know if she'd even find someone that clicked with her the same way her mother and father did despite how different the two were.
"Harry?" Ron spoke up as he stood near the window, getting the other threes attention as they looked over, "Is it me, or do Draco and Mummy look like two people who don't want to be followed?"
"Isn't he stunning." Salem said with a laugh to herself, looking out the window as the three gave her a look.
"Salem, no." Ron said with a dumbfounded look.
"He's cruel and vial, no one you should find stunning." Hermione said in disbelief as she pulled Salem from the window.
"Far from your type, believe me." Ron added in as he looked down at her as if she were a child.
The four made their way out of the shop quickly, hurrying after the two but keeping their distance incase they happened to turn. Salem looked around scared, hearing the faint yells of people in pain sending a chill down her spine. Salem was never good when it came to see others in pain, she hated the idea of it, hated how it haunted her mind no matter who they were to her. Hated how much it reminded her of the night her parents died.
The three stopped at the end of the ally way, watching the two figures walk into another shop quickly. Salem couldn't help but frown her eyebrows at the look of dread that was on this so called Dracos face. For someone as terrible as Hermione and Ron explained him to be, he seemed rather scared.
"You aren't scared of height, are you?" Hermione whispered to Salem as the four climbed the side of the building in hopes of seeing what was so important inside.
"I don't suppose, but you know... learn something knew everyday." Salem said uneasy as she tried not to look down, gripping the bricks as she climbed to the top with the trio, to afraid of telling them she was far from comfortable with doing this.
"Is that a normal thing for students at Hogwarts to do? I'm afraid it's not something i'm quite into." Salem said as she looked through the dusty window, watching the platinum blonde boy put his hands and face on a cabinet as if he was listening to something.
"Far from normal." Ron said to her as Harry shhed the two. The sudden figure that was infront of the windows back was to them, startling the four as they ducked down rather quickly, knocking a vase to the ally ground loudly. Whoever the man was must have became suspicious, pulling the blind down incase.
Salem's imagination was rather large, she only assumed that if she looked at things on the bright side that maybe life would be a little better. She was wrong though, life was far from better even with her imagination being the way it was. She was filled with so many weird traits, so many weird things that multiple people thought were rather different and unique.
The train ride wasn't something new to Salem, she'd gotten the train more then a lot and taken off to who knows where. The orange leafs danced before her eyes out the window, zooming past faster then she'd wished they would. She looked like a child with her hand on the window, marking her finger tips as a smile slowly formed, knowing where she was going.
"So what was Draco doing with that weird looking cabinet?" Harry asked, pulling her out of the nature trance she was in, "And who were all those people? Don't you see? It was a ceremony, an initiation."
"What would You-Know-Who want with Malfoy?" Ron questioned confused as he looked at Harry who was seated next to Salem, her multiple bags she'd insisted on coming along crammed on the ground under them.
"Well, then what's he doing in Borgin and Burkes? Browsing for furniture?" Harry spoke, a bit of sarcasm in his voice as he looked at the two. Salem was rather confused on the situation, trying to keep up as much as possible as Hermione gave her a grin, noticing.
"It's a creepy shop. He's a creepy bloke." Ron said with a shrug of his shoulders, not reading into it nearly as much as Harry was.
"Look, his father is a Death Eater. It only makes sense." Harry said as Salem looked over quickly, her honey locks hitting Harry in the face slightly.
"Death Eater? Grandad said my mother was one of those before she died, could that help you any?" Salem suggested, not getting to much information on the topic considering her grandfather didn't like speaking of her mother much, it would cause to much sorrow for his only daughter who was now dead.
"Salem, you say your mother was a Death Eater?" Hermione asked her, her dark eyebrows frowning together.
"Yes, she was the only one of are little family to be though... because of her bloodline." Salem spoke as she saw Harry look to her in the corner of her eye, causing Salem to turn and look at him back.
"Bloodline?" he questioned, wanting her to go on.
"Her whole family were Death Eaters, it wasn't much of a choice for her to become one." the girl spoke as the trio shared a worried look, frightening the girl as she questioned them on it.
"That doesn't mean you will also be next in line?" Hermione asked her worried, a hopeful look on her face, not being able to imagine the same girl who talked her ear off all last night could possibly ever be something so evil.
"I don't guess, my mother isn't here to force it on me, is she?" Salem said as Hermione blinked and nodded, a small sigh of relief.
"Suppose not." she answered before Harry spoke up again.
"I need some air." he sighed while standing quickly, grabbing something from his bags before him as he suddenly stopped, "And I need you."
"Touring the train with my new best mate, Harry Potter." Salem said as she grabbed left her bags, sending a wave to the duo before the two walked off.
"I need your help with something." Harry said as the two got away from Hermione and Ron, pressed close together in the tight squeeze of the hallway.
"What can I help you with, fair maiden?" Salem said as she faked a bow as Harry shut his eyes for a moment while Salem laughed at herself.
"I'm not sure it's the best idea but..." be trailed off, watching her straighter eyebrows frown in confusion, "Slytherins would do absolutely anything for your mother."
Salem had agreed to Harry's plan, slightly nervous only because of the things she'd heard about Draco Malfoy. She tried not to judge someone she didn't know even though it was rather hard for her after Ron and Hermione told her so many stories on the train ride. But Salem was trying, messing with her fingers as her and her bags sat on the bench outside of the train the moment it stopped. She watched everyone leave the train, overly confident she'd be able to spot platinum blonde hair out of the groups.
Everyone had passed, making their way toward the school. Salem panicked, thinking she'd missed the boy, thinking she was to confident in herself. Standing she tried to look toward everyone walking, hopes of seeing him, worried she'd ruined Harry's plan. That was until she ran straight into a figure that was getting off the train.
"Do you not watch were you're walking?" he snapped at her, Salem sighed in relief as she looked up at Draco who stood around only three inches taller then she did, his hands on her biceps as they collided.
"Rarely, actually." she said honestly as he rolled his bright eyes, moving her aside and walking away. Salem's eyes widened, hoisting up her bags as much as she could before she jogged after him.
"Ugh, do you go to Hogwarts?" she asked, scolding herself for the first question that came to her head. He didn't answer her, simply continuing to walk as she attempted to stay by his side.
"Yeah, me too. Well this is my first year actually but I didn't get to go six years ago like everyone else because I couldn't get a lot of stuff down, still can't really but gotta get here before time runs out right?" Salem went on, rambling until she had to stop, dropping her heavy bags as he continued to walk, speeding up before she could catch up to him.
"I'm Salem!" she called out, her first name not seeming to click to Draco, "My mother was Emilia Slughorn!"
That made him pause, stopping in his tracks before slowly turning back to her. Draco scolded himself slightly, should have picked up on the eyes immediately but in his defense, he wasn't looking into them until now, from ten feet away, "Emilia Slughorn is your mother?"
"I don't suppose you could lead me to where i'm needed to be?" she asked as Draco stared at her, his expression different now that he knew where she came from.
"Most of the first years are young ones, you'll stick out but i'm sure they'll let you up front as long as you tell them your name. Once you get sorted into Slytherin, you just take a seat at the green table and after that you'll be lead to your room, I assume they've given you a private one." Draco spoke as took Salem near the hat where everyone was crowded, a few other Slytherins taking her bags after he informed them who she was. Salem watched the ones in green whisper about her, smiling as she met their eye.
"Their big fans of Emilia, you look like her." Draco spoke as Salem looked at him again and nodded her head.
"Right, so I just stand with all these ten year olds in front of everyone and wait." Salem spoke rather to herself as she rubbed the bruises her bags made on her forearms, attempting to ignore the way people spoke about her as if she was so important when non of them knew the first thing about her.
"See you soon." Draco said as he pushed her slightly toward the line of students, a single nod from his head as he headed off quietly and quickly.
Salem feared he wouldn't have nearly as much respect for her if she didn't end up in Slytherin, how no one would. Though she wasn't a fan of people treating her differently because of her mother, she didn't fancy anyone being horrible to her if she didn't continue her legacy like everyone was expecting her to. Salem tried not to let it consume to much of her mind, knowing she'd always have Harry, Ron, and Hermione at least. But it was hard on her, already having the pressure of living up to her fathers smarts and her mothers power, when in reality she could barely hold her wand correctly.
