☾0.13| I Won't Let Anyone In This World Ever Hurt You

Salem very much missed Harry.

She'd avoided him at all cost, turning the other way when he was around. Apart of her knew she might have overreacted, that she should have given him a better chance to explain things. But she didn't, because she was hurt and angry. And those emotions caused one thing, a horrible thing that had Pansy Parkinson in the hospital wing for a few weeks along with months of detention for Salem.

She wanted to be near Draco.

He understood what she was feeling, why she was so confused and angry all at once. Salem could imagine maybe he felt that way too when he went down his fathers path, but she didn't wanna talk to him either. He'd lied to her countless of times and lies was the last thing Salem ever needed.

So she stuck with people that have never wronged her.

Ronald Weasley.

Hermione Granger.

Luna Lovegood.

Ginny Weasley.

Fred Weasley.

George Weasley.

and Neville Longbottom.

She wanted to invite Blaise, but though the two had formed a very nice friendship, Salem wasn't ready to trust him completely yet... especially not with what she was forming the group for.

"Salem, don't you know your mother was the only one with the telekinesis ability?" Luna asked calmly and quietly from where she sat across from Salem, her bright eyes burning into Salem's. Luna was oddly familiar looking, she resembled Draco in a much girlish way.

"Yes, sadly enough my mother is gone meaning I can't seek her advice, which is why I need all of you." Salem said with a sigh as she stood with the book in her hand.

"Us?" the twins asked in sync.

"Well, you don't see us throwing Slytherins across the Great Hall, Salem, how could we possibly help?" Ron asked, though he didn't intend to make his words come out so sarcastic, Hermione hit him with her books anyways.

"How can we help?" Neville spoke up to get Salem back on topic as she cleared her throat while looking at the group.

"There's hundred of books on my mother, all of which I certainly can't read on my own. While the notes she left me on her power is nothing but why I should use it and why I should not, i'm afraid if I can't get it under control i'll hurt one of you and I really do not wanna do that." Salem spoke with a clear of her throat, her face flushed as they all gapped at her words.

"What section should we look in?" Ginny spoke up as Salem grinned at her.

"Anywhere between Slytherin and Gryffindor, if what everyone says is true about my mom using her powers to dangle my father over the forbidden forest... information could be anywhere." Salem said as the small group all nodded their heads, "Try not to all go at once, Snape has already been paying more attention to me since what happened."

"What do you think they're planning?" Hermione spoke worried as she looked at Salem with worried eyes, her usual soft features looking much determined then Salem had ever known before.

"I don't know, but it can't be good, especially not with what i've inherited." Salem shook her head as they all stared up at her, worry swirling around in each of their eyes.

"You know, you should talk to him." Hermione said as her and Salem sat on the steps, studying together. Hermione had a knowing look on her face while her perfectly filled eyebrows raised in Salem's direction, "He's been sending you owls."

"What am I supposed to say, Mione? That it's okay that the only reason he kept me around for so long is because of my grandfather?" Salem went on with sad eyes while putting her spell book down, "I'm truly over people using me because of my family."

"Harry cares about you a lot, he's worried, every time we see each other he ask us about you." Hermione said as she sat up better to put her hand on Salem's, "But if you mean Draco... well i'm afraid I can't even begin to understand what's going on there."

"Believe me, I can't either." Salem said with a exhale, "And i'll talk to Harry... eventually. But right now i'm trying to avoid getting upset because..."

"Because you threw someone across the room last time." Hermione finished for her as Salem threw a paper ball at her while the two shared a laugh.

Salem had been late for lunch that day, she was busy stalking up with books and lost complete track of time. As she was hurrying back, making her way into the Great Hall, ignoring the scared looks she got, Salem saw something quite odd.

Draco had turned on his heels, fear and panic dancing within the bright blue orbs. Salem was lost as to what he was looking at or what set him off, all she knew was he was hurrying off and Harry was hot on his heels. Salem knew the last thing she should be doing was fallowing Harry Potter who was following Draco Malfoy.

But she did it anyways.

As Salem got closer to the boys bathroom that the two had disappeared in, Salem could hear the zaps and crash of wands going off. She heard Harry say something along the lines of knowing what Draco did, hexing someone, and she even heard her name throw into the conversation one or two times. Salem decided she should walk in once she heard Draco sob with a loud fall. Turning the corner her mouth fell slightly as she saw the boy who she swore never smiling, who taunted and bullied her relentlessly, who lied to her, who brought her into a dangerous household... sobbing on the bathroom floor as water from the pips went everywhere.

"Draco." Salem said, her voice caught in her throat as she watched him bleed terribly. Salem hurried over, slipping on the floor slightly as she was on the ground next to him, "It'll be okay."

He looked up at her, weakness and pain in his eyes as he stared at her. He seemed to be chocked slightly, her hand on top of his as she looked over the multiple blood spots that stained his soaked white shirt, "Just trust me this time."

Snape was before her quickly, a look of fear crossing Salem's dark eyes. She wanted to run away from him, a man that she feared just standing before her. But Salem didn't leave.

She couldn't leave Draco.

"Go, Harry, go." Salem demanded as she looked over her shoulder at the Potter boy. He had regret written across his face, looking at her and then to Draco again. Salem repeated herself once more with a more stern and angry voice making Harry hesitate before running off.

"You've gotta help him." Salem said as she looked up at Snape, rarely wanting to ever speak to the man but know he could save Draco if he tried, "Please."

Snape began to mumble a spell Salem didn't know nor understood. He ran his wand from Draco's chest to abdomen a few times, never stopping the spell leaving his lips until every spot of blood was gone. He looked at Salem, he looked at her and told her something without speaking.

You owe me now.

"Thank you, professor Snape." Salem said as she never let Draco go, getting a simple nod from the dark haired man.

For someone who always looked angry and annoyed, Draco Malfoy looked like a complete angel when he was asleep. His eyebrows weren't knitted together, no angry forehead lines and clinched jaw. He's features where much softer when he was asleep, breathing slowly. Salem knew he'd smack her upside the head when he woke up and found her rubbing a thumb across his pale skin that had a small scar mark under his left eye.

But she did it anyways.

He smelt or black liquorish and green apples. Salem almost forgot smelling it that day in potions class until she was laid up next to him in the hospital wing bed. The nurse trusted Salem, or maybe she just feared her when Salem said she could take care of Draco. With a simple nod and a quick explanation, the nurse was off, leaving Salem to admire Draco for the first time.

She had always found him beautiful, she even said it when she first saw him and was scolded by Ron and Hermione for it. But he was, in her eyes, the most beautiful thing to walk the face of the earth. Salem wanted so badly to hate Draco, to hate him for everything he'd done to her because she had many reason to resent the boy, but the last thing she hated was Draco.

She couldn't hate him after he held her hand on the christmas holidays, walking around Hogwarts as if they were normal and not forced to hate each other after Salem's denial.

His eyebrows were knitting together again, the feeling of her thumb across his face slowly making him wake up. Draco squinted at the faint light, it wasn't bright but it was new. He let his eyes adjust before looking to his left at Salem who laid next to him, propped up on her right elbow and using her left thumb to keep him asleep.

She took it away once his eye opened.

"Feel okay?" she asked as if it was so normal for them to be so close in a hospital bed of all places. Draco ignored her, simply looking around alarmed, "No ones here, I figured you didn't want anyone to know what happened."

"You figured right, surprisingly." he said with a clear of his throat, letting his head fall back on the pillow again while watching Salem form a smile at his words, she was for once happy to hear his critical words her way, "Why are you here?"

Salem didn't answer, a small shrug as she stare back at him, "Who knows at this point."

"When can I leave?" he went on to question her, not moving which gave it away that he might have still been in some sort of pain.

"About a hour." Salem lied, he could leave the second he woke up but she liked laying next to him much more then she wished she did, "I can leave though."

"You can stay." he said and for a second Salem thought he might have actually wanted her to stay here with him just for the sake of comfort, "I wanted to ask you if you've read your mother's book."

"I have, it wasn't much help like you said it would be." Salem said as he rolled his eyes but hide a small smile.

"You're reading it wrong, I should have known you would." he said while Salem frowned her eyebrows, beyond lost how she could read simple words wrong, "The back pages are invisible ink, you have to cast a spell in order to see them."

Salem felt dumb and embarrassed after that, she should have known that, she'd even been learning about the invisible ink in class that week. She felt her face flush while tearing her eyes anywhere from his, "Right, that makes sense."

It was silent between the two for the next few moments, a type of silent that spoke without either of them saying anything. Salem was thanking him for helping her yet again while he thanked her for not leaving him.

"You can't stay away from me." he said, a arrogant and full of himself smirk forming on his face.

"You make just about the same sense as spell books." Salem said as she gave him a raise of her eyebrows as he shook his head.

"You can't stay away, you say you want to but you always come back." he told her, he saw straight through her now. While Salem was once the most difficult person from him to read, he was now seeing things so clearly with her, "Why is that?"

"Like I said... who knows at this point." she repeated herself while shaking her head to get one of the strands of hair out of her face, "Do you remember when we were here on Christmas eve and I asked you what your favorite star was?"

"Vaguely." he lied, he remembered everything from the Christmas Eve they spent together.

"You told me you didn't know much about stars and I said I didn't either." Salem said as he opened his mouth to say something before she cut him off again, "There's one star that comes out when the sky is completely black, only the moon. There's one star somewhere that resembles its love for being alone, it reminds me of you."

"Where'd you learn that?" he asked her, a few blinks to his eyes as he stared as her in shock. While Christmas Eve was filled with moments like this, that simply felt like a Fever Dream to the both of them, but right now was proving that it wasn't, that they still had the little bit of spark between them that could easily start a wild fire if they let it.... not yet.

"Luna gave me a book on astrology, it only happens here, never in the muggle world which I figured you'd like too." Salem said, her words made him chuckle slightly as she stared at him with a faint smile, "Theres suppose to be another star joined it soon, only one from what the statistics say."

"Why would that happen?" he questioned as Salem shrugged, watching his icy eyes stare up at her without a drop of anger or annoyance like they usually had.

"I didn't get that far, I guess it just got tired of being alone in the world." Salem spoke, her words were speaking to him the exact way she wanted them to.... he understood what she was speaking on while using stars as the subject.

"You're probably right." he said before opening his mouth to speak again.

"For once." they said in sync, Salem knew what he was gonna say which made him chuckle and hide a smile. Her hand was suddenly on his face again, rubbing slightly under his eye like it was when he was asleep. He didn't say anything, relaxing in the slightest under her touch.

"I know you want to hate me." Salem began as she stared down at him, the warmth of her thumb on his ice cold skin gave the both of them, "But you don't, I can see it."

"You don't know anything." though his words were harsh, his tone was low and softer as he didn't blink once while stare up at her again, "You don't know the first thing about me."

"I think I do." she spoke up, running her hand to his forehead now, smoothing out the frowning of his eyebrows, "I know you're overwhelmed with something you've been asked to do, I know your decision in life isn't as joyful as you imagined it to be."

"Stop talking." he demanded her as he suddenly grabbed her wrist forcefully, not once breaking eye contact as Salem blinked, a hard swallow as she waited to see what he was gonna do next.

He loosened his grip on her hand to let it lay between the two of them, trying not to make it a big deal that he wasn't ready to let her hand go. Salem could see he didn't want to tell her he wanted it, simply trying to say it with his eyes.

Lacing her fingers with his.

"Draco." Salem began as she stared at him, "If you're in danger or are starting to regret anything... I can help you."

"No, you can't." he spoke while pulling his eyes from her, "It's not right for you to be around me, not after what you decided."

"They can hurt me all they want to." Salem said quickly, she didn't wanna keep talking but she couldn't help it, she was coming to so many realizations late that night in the hospital wing, "I don't want to be away from you."

He didn't say anything at first, staring at her with a unreadable expression. He was conflicted between snapping at her or say something heart felt back.

"But if you really want me to, i'll walk away, for real this time." Salem could imagine she would be a lot less stressed with Draco out of her life, she'd be less confused and her life would go the way she imagined it to be, "Like a husband leaving his wife for the house maid."

But for once she didn't want her life to go the way she planned it.

"No." he spoke after a minute of silents, "You stay while we have the time."

"Would they kill us if they knew about us?" Salem asked, she didn't know what 'us' consisted of at this point but she was okay with the unknowing as long as he continued to hold her hand.

"Yes." he answers honestly, scanning her eyes in the slightest to search for her reaction.

Her reacted wasn't there... Salem didn't even care.

"Do they plan on killing me anyways?" Salem asked, she knew they did, she knew she barley had a chance in the world where Bellatrix Lestrange, Voldemort, and Lucious Malfoy wanted her dead in.

"They want to, but your mother was of great value to each of them... they're having trouble going against her wishes." Draco spoke as he stared at her with a faint shake of his head, "You have to know that I can not do anything, if I do something he'll-"

"I won't let anyone in this world ever hurt you." Salem promised him as she held so much emotion in her eyes, "But I can only do that in you stop pushing me away."

"It's harder then it seems." he spoke with a slight hint of defense in his voice, "Can't you understand that?"

"I do, I promise." she spoke while laying on the pillow completely once her elbow got tired, "You don't have to explain anything to me, never if you choose not to, but I want to understand you in ways you haven't let me."

"You will." he said while scanning her face once again, for reason he didn't know, "Just not now."

"Can you at least tell me how I can help you? How I can keep you safe?" Salem went on to question, her eyes began to worry and fill with salty tears, knowing what he'd say.

"No, I don't think I can." he said as Salem let a tear escape her left eye, dripping down the side of her face. Draco reached over to whip it away, watching Salem's dark eyes shut completely as she leaned into his hand more.

"We could never be safe together."
