You were lying in your bed when there was another knock on your door. You had been lying in your bed for the past two hours, but you couldn't fall asleep, so you crawled out of your bed, and walked downstairs.

When you opened the door, you saw Damon there and you both looked at each other lovingly. "I thought you were asleep," he said. "No, I can't sleep after what happened tonight," you replied. "Can I come in?" he asked. "Yeah, come on," you replied, taking his hand and leading him upstairs to your room. You sat down on the bed and he sat down next to you.

"Y/N, you know that when I said those things, I didn't mean them, right? It was just to protect my own heart," Damon told you. "I know Damon, and I'm sorry I hurt you. I was just trying to not hurt my friends. I guess I didn't realize what it would do to you," you responded.

"I know, and I get that. You are so amazing, you would put the feelings of your friends above your own feelings," Damon said, and you just smiled at him. "If I say something, promise me you won't freak out," Damon told you. "I promise," you replied.

He nodded his head, and said, "I love you, Y/N." You were stunned. You knew that you and Damon hadn't known each other for very long, but from the moment Caroline had brought him to the field, up until the kiss at the Grill, you knew you felt the exact same way. Damon looked down, expecting you to say that it was too soon, or something like that.

But instead, you rested your hand on his cheek making him look up at you, and you leaned in for a kiss. Each kiss was like the first. The way your mouths fit together was like puzzle pieces, and when you finally pulled apart, it was only because you needed a breath. "I love you too," you told Damon with a large smile, and he pulled you into another kiss.

"This scares me," Damon told you honestly. "Why?" you asked him. "Because, I really want us to work; I've never loved anyone this much before, not even Katherine, and I can't lose you," he explained.

You just smiled at him and said, "You will never have to worry about losing me, Damon, I promise. I will always love you, no matter what crazy thing you do." Damon smiled at you, and you said, "Stay with me tonight." He looked a little bit shocked but then said, "Always."

He then got up to turn the light off, and you crawled under the covers. Damon soon joined you on the bed, and you kissed him goodnight. This was the first night of many nights. The first night of forever.
