The next day was a weekend, so luckily, you didn't have to go to school, which meant that you would be able to sleep in, or so you thought. You were still sleeping when there was a knock on your door at seven o'clock in the morning. You were the only one home, so you groggily crawled out of your bed and walked to the door.

You opened it to reveal a sobbing Caroline. "Care?" you asked. "He broke up with me, Y/N," she told you. "Damon?" you asked, and she nodded her head. "Come inside," you told her, and she walked inside your house. You hugged her as you helped her walk to your couch.

You just continued to hug her as she cried in your arms. When she had finally stopped crying, you gave her a small smile, and asked, "What happened?" She shrugged her shoulders and replied, "I don't know. I have no idea what I did wrong," she responded.

"Caroline, I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong. Maybe Damon's just going through a lot. Maybe he wasn't even looking for anything serious when he first started going out with you," you told her, trying to make her stop feeling like the break-up was her fault. "It doesn't matter. I really liked him, Y/N," she told you.

"I know, Caroline, but you'll get over him, I promise. There are tons of other guys," you told her. "Yeah, but none of them like me," she said. "That's not true. I bet Matt or Tyler would go for you," you responded.

"Tyler flirts with everyone, and Matt's still trying to get over Elena," she replied. "Maybe you could help each other get over your exes, then," you told her, slightly shrugging your shoulders. She nodded her head and gave you a small smile, but you could tell there was something else wrong. It wasn't just the break-up, something else happened.

"Caroline, is that all that you're upset about?" you asked her, and she just shook her head no. "Bonnie and I got in a fight," she said. "About what?" you questioned. "Well, she never liked Damon, and I had this necklace that was from him, and she called it ugly, and eventually I gave it to her, but when I asked for it back, she wouldn't give it to me," Caroline replied.

"That's weird...but I'm sure Bonnie has a good reason. Besides, the fewer things you have to remind you of Damon, the faster you can get over him," you suggested and Caroline shrugged her shoulders, agreeing silently with you.

You both stayed silent for a couple of minutes, and then Caroline stood up saying, "I have to go help my mom, but thanks Y/N, you made me feel a lot better." "You're welcome, Care. Just call me if you need anything," you responded and she nodded her head, giving you a small smile before leaving your house.

You let out a sigh as you slumped backward into your couch. At least you knew that you could count on Damon to do what he says he's going to do. You stood up from your couch a couple of minutes later and walked up to your bedroom.

You fixed your appearance and then walked back downstairs and grabbed your keys. You got in your car and drove over to Damon's house. You parked your car and knocked on the door, and you were surprised to see both Elena and Stefan there when the door opened. "Y/N? What are you doing here?" Stefan asked, and you must have looked like a deer in headlights as you contemplated how they would react when they knew the reason you were there.

"I came to see Damon," you responded, and Stefan's eyes almost bugged out of his head. "Damon?! Why are you here to see him? Did you not hear me when I warned you about him?" Stefan questioned, and you just shrugged your shoulders.

"Y/N, Damon is bad for you," Elena warned you, and that's when you saw Damon come up behind Stefan and Elena, saying, "Ouch, Elena, that hurts. I mean I expect it from Stefan, but not from you." Elena just rolled her eyes and you let out a small chuckle. You then looked up at Damon and he said, "Good morning Y/N, what brings you here so early?" "You," you replied and he raised his eyebrows.

"Sounds exciting," he told you. He then pushed Stefan and Elena out of the door and grabbed your hand, pulling you inside. "Have fun on your date, Y/N and I need to talk," Damon told Stefan and Elena before pulling the door shut and locking it, making you laugh.

"So, what's up?" Damon asked you. "Caroline talked to me this morning, she was heartbroken," you told Damon. He let out a small sigh and replied, "Yeah, I know, I felt bad for breaking it off with her, but it's what you wanted, right?" You nodded your head and responded, "I just wish she hadn't taken it so hard."

You then looked down feeling somewhat guilty, and Damon used his thumb to push your chin up to look into his eyes. "Are you feeling guilty for this?" he asked you, and you nodded your head. "Why?" he questioned.

"Because you and Caroline would still be together if it hadn't been for me, and then she wouldn't be hurting," you told him, quietly. He gave you a small smile and replied, "Y/N, it's not your fault, if anything you saved her a ton of pain -- pain that I would have caused her, so maybe you saved me too." "How did I save you?" you asked. "By keeping me from becoming a complete monster," he responded, and you gave him a small smile.

"I have to ask you about something," you told him. "Okay," he replied, furrowing his eyebrows in a sort of cute way. "Caroline told me that you gave her a necklace...," you began and Damon let out a small sigh.

"Well, technically I didn't give it to her, but yes, I know what you're talking about," he responded. "You know, Bonnie has it now," you told him, and he nodded his head. "Yeah I know," he replied, sighing slightly. You nodded your head and he asked, "What exactly are you asking me?"

"How important was the necklace to you?" you questioned. "It was a talisman that could have been used to open the tomb that Katherine's in," he explained. "So really important," you stated. "Not anymore," he responded.

"Why are you asking about a necklace?" he asked. You just shrugged your shoulders and replied, "I was just wondering if you gave Caroline that necklace because you actually liked her," you responded. Damon turned his head a little to the side and told you, "No, I never liked Caroline the way she liked me."

"Good," you told him, happy that he didn't have feelings for Caroline. That meant that there was a possibility that something could happen between you and him...not that you were thinking about that. "Good?" Damon asked, knowing exactly how you felt.

You just smirked, and said, "I'll see you later, Damon." You then began walking towards the door, and Damon told you, "Y/N, wait." You turned around and faced him. "Go out with me sometime," he stated.

"Are you asking me or telling me?" you questioned. "Asking," Damon replied. You gave him a small smile, and every inch of you wanted to say yes, but three people popped into your mind: Stefan, Elena, and Caroline. You sighed as you thought about them before responding, "I'm sorry Damon, I can't. I'll see you around." You then left, sad that you couldn't say yes to Damon when that was all you wanted to do.

Damon's POV:

I was upstairs in my room when I heard someone knock on the door. I assumed that Stefan and Elena had gotten it, but when I didn't hear the door shut again, I decided to go see what was going on. I walked downstairs to see Y/N standing at the door talking to Elena and Stefan who were warning her about me.

A smile appeared on my face as soon as I saw Y/N, and I began approaching the door. "Damon is bad for you, Y/N," I heard Elena say as I reached the trio. "Ouch, Elena, that hurts. I mean, I expect it from Stefan, but not from you," I joked, chiming into the conversation, and making Y/N chuckle. "Good morning Y/N, what brings you here so early?" I asked her with my best smile.

"You," she replied, making me freeze for a moment. "Sounds exciting," I stated. I then pushed Stefan and Elena out the door, and grabbed Y/N's hand, blushing slightly from the skin contact, before telling Stefan and Elena, "Have fun on your date, Y/N and I need to talk." I then shut the door and locked it, making sure that Elena and Stefan wouldn't try coming into the house again.

I heard Y/N laugh at my actions and I smiled at the sound. I loved hearing it. "So, what's up?" I asked her. She then told me about how Caroline was upset and she began asking me about the necklace I gave Caroline.

I told her about how it was a talisman that could be used to open the tomb, which she thought meant something, but I reassured her that I was over Katherine. Or at least I was getting to that point. "Why are you asking about a necklace?" I questioned. She shrugged her shoulders in a way that let me know she was nervous to say her next words.

"I was just wondering if you gave Caroline that necklace because you actually liked her," she stated. I turned my head to the side, admiring how cute she looked at this moment. "No, I never liked Caroline the way she liked me," I told her.

I saw Y/N's lips curl up into a smirk as she said, "Good." "Good?" I asked, knowing that she was telling me that she had some kind of feelings for me, but she just ignored my questioning of her words and replied, "I'll see you later, Damon." She then began walking towards the door when I stopped her by saying, "Y/N, wait."

She turned around and looked into my eyes and I told her, "Go out with me." "Are you asking me or telling me?" she questioned making me smirk. "Asking," I responded. She smiled, looking as if she really wanted to say yes, but then her smile faltered. "I'm sorry Damon, I can't. I'll see you around," she replied, and then she quickly rushed out of the house.

I felt hurt that she rejected me, but I knew that she wanted to say yes. I saw it in her face. She said no because of Caroline...and probably because of Stefan and Elena too. Either way, there was one thing I knew: I wasn't going to give up.
