You went to bed that night thinking about Damon. You didn't know what, but there was something about him that drew you in...something different. When you woke up the next morning, you were surprisingly motivated to go to school. Maybe it was because you wanted to see Caroline, or maybe it was because there was a possibility that if you went to school you might see Damon again. Either reason was the perfect motivation to go to school.

You got up and completed your morning routine before getting into your car and driving to school. You walked into the school building and immediately spotted Caroline. She was wearing black jeans a white shirt and...a scarf?

You walked over to her and she greeted you with a warm smile saying, "Hey, Y/N." "Hey Care, what's with the scarf? It's like 70 degrees outside," you replied. "Scarves are very fashionable," Caroline responded with a smile.

You laughed and Caroline told you, "I need to go fix my hair in the bathroom, want to come with me?" "Yeah," you replied, walking to the girls' bathroom with her. Caroline began tying her hair into a bun, and that's when you noticed something on her neck. "Caroline, what's on your neck?" you asked, taking her scarf.

There were bite marks all over Caroline's neck, and they looked bad. Caroline stood there shocked and you asked, "Caroline, what the hell are those?" "Love marks," she replied simply. "No, those are way worse. Did Damon do this?" you asked her.

She rolled her eyes as she took the scarf back from you and wrapped it around her neck. "Just leave it alone, Y/N. It's not your business," she told you. "Not my business? Caroline, you're my best friend, and he hurt you. Of course, it's my business!" you responded. Caroline just walked out of the bathroom, not saying a word to you. You were going to go after her, but the first bell rang.

You let out a sigh as you left the bathroom and began walking to your first class, but you only got as far as the door before you decided on instead going to confront Damon. Stefan had mentioned where his house was, and Damon was hurting your friend.

Before the teacher could see you, you walked back into the hallway, and out the school's main doors, to your car. You got in your car and started driving to the place where Stefan said his house was. You didn't know exactly where it was, but you knew the general area of where it was, and you knew what it looked like because Stefan showed you a picture.

After a little bit of driving around, you finally found it. You parked your car and started walking up to the porch. You took a breath in and then knocked on the door. Damon soon came and opened it, and, shocked, he asked, "Y/N? What are you doing here?"

"Stay the hell away from Caroline," you told him. "What are you talking about?" he asked you. "I saw the bites on Caroline's neck. What are you doing to her?" you questioned. "You don't know anything about what's going on between me and Caroline," Damon stated, appearing to be getting angry. "I know that the bites on her neck aren't normal. What the hell are they?" you asked.

"You want to know what they are, fine, I'll show you," Damon replied. Then, his face started transforming. His veins began popping out on his face, his eyes were red, and his teeth were fangs. You took a step back, slightly scared, but at the same time intrigued.

You didn't run away, you just stayed there, looking at Damon until his face returned to normal. He looked at you strangely for a moment, and then said, "You didn't run away." "I didn't need to," you replied. "You don't know me," Damon responded. "Then tell me about you. Tell me everything," you told him. He gave you a small smirk and then said, "Why don't you come inside."

You nodded your head and then walked into the house. It was huge and very fancy looking. Damon led you to their parlor room, and you sat down on the couch. Damon sat down next to you and gave you a small smile, "Are you sure you want to hear everything?"

You nodded your head and Damon began his tale of how his father was a part of this group of people who hunted vampires, and one of the vampires who his father was hunting was a woman named Katherine. She made him and his brother fall in love with her. She was the reason they were turned into vampires. He loved her, but Katherine was put in a tomb when Stefan told their father about his love for Katherine.

You listened intensely as Damon told you about his life story. It was so interesting. He was so interesting. Your eyes never left Damon's as he spoke, and you honestly felt bad for him. When Damon had finished his story, he gave you a small smile and told you, "So that's my story...ready to run for the hills, yet?"

You shook your head no and smiled at him. "Why are you back here in Mystic Falls?" you asked him. "Well, at first, it was to find Katherine. But now...," Damon replied. "But now what?" you questioned. "But now, I think I'm starting to get over her," Damon responded with a smirk. You tugged your bottom lip in between your teeth to suppress a smile and looked down, but only for a short moment before you returned your gaze into Damon's eyes.

"Damon, you know that you can't see Caroline anymore, right? You can't keep hurting my friend," you told him. Damon sighed and said, "Fine, I'll break it off with Caroline tonight." "Really?" you asked him, with a small smile, and he nodded his head.

"Thank you, Damon," you told him. He smiled back at you, and you noticed how cute Damon was. But, you couldn't feel that way. First of all, Caroline was completely hung up on, and she was your best friend. Not to mention the fact that from what Stefan told you, Damon was a complete player.

You stood up from Damon's couch and gave him a small smile. "Thanks for telling me all of that stuff about you and your past. And thanks for breaking it off with Caroline," you told him.

Damon nodded his head, and replied, "You're welcome." You then began walking towards the door, and Damon followed you. You were just outside the door, when Damon said, "When can I see you again, Y/N?" "I don't know. We probably won't be seeing much of each other after you break things off with Caroline, but I'm also friends with Elena, and since she and Stefan are together now, you'll probably see me around," you responded.

"I hope so," Damon replied, and with that, you left the Salvatore Boarding House. You avoided school for the rest of the day, and instead went home, wondering how Caroline was going to take the break up.

Damon's POV:

I woke up this morning next to Caroline. She was becoming so attached. She had bite marks on her neck from me feeding on her and they had darkened a bit, so I made her wear a scarf over them, compelling her not to tell anyone about it. I spent the next hour fixing a drink and just hanging around the house when there was a knock on my door.

I opened it to reveal Y/N standing there. I was so shocked to see her there, mainly because I had no idea she knew where I lived, or that she would come to see me willingly. She looked angry and started asking me questions about Caroline.

After she continued to ask me what the bite marks were, I decided to show her, by showing her what I was. I expected her to start running as soon as I did what I had done, but she just stayed there staring at me. It was as if I had finally found someone who saw me as a person even though I'm a monster. After a moment, my face returned to normal, and I just stared back at Y/N, in awe of her.

"You didn't run away," I told her, still surprised. "I didn't need to," she replied, and I looked at her with my eyebrows furrowed. "You don't even know me," I stated. "Then tell me about you. Tell me everything," she responded.

I gave her a small smirk. There was something different about this girl – something special. I gave her my casual smirk as I invited her inside my house. I sat down with her on the couch and told her everything. I expected her to intervene at any moment, telling me that she didn't want to hear anymore or to freak out, but she just stayed there, listening to my story.

At the end, I told her, "So that's my story...ready to run for the hills yet?" She just smiled at me, a smile that made my heart melt, as she shook her head no. "Why are you back here in Mystic Falls?" she questioned.

I had to think about an answer. There was something about her that reassured me that I could trust her with my secret plans, but were they even plans anymore? I felt like everything I had felt for Katherine was slowly going away and it was being replaced with feelings for Y/N. So I decided to tell her just that. "Well, at first, it was to find Katherine...but now," I began, pausing for a moment.

"But now what?" she asked. "Now I think I'm starting to get over her," I answered. I gave her a small smirk, and she looked down in an adorable, shy way, but her eyes didn't leave mine for too long.

"Damon, you know you can't see Caroline anymore, right? You can't keep hurting my friend," she told me, defending her friend, another thing to add to the list of things I admired about her. I let out a sigh as I thought about it. I needed Caroline to use Bonnie, but did I even need Bonnie anymore? The only reason I even needed Bonnie was to bring Katherine back.

It didn't matter anyway. The need to make Y/N happy was more important to me than using Caroline anymore. If I still decided to bring Katherine back, then I will just have to find another way to use Bonnie.

"Fine, I'll break it off with Caroline tonight," I told Y/N. "Really?" she asked with a small smile, and I nodded my head back at her. "Thank you, Damon," she replied, and I just smiled back, relishing in the way my name sounded coming from her lips. She then stood up from the couch, and said, "Thanks for telling me all that stuff about you and your past, and thanks for breaking it off with Caroline."

I stood up as well, and smiled at her, replying, "You're welcome." She then began walking towards our front door and I followed her. She took a step out of my door, and I didn't want her to leave without saying something else. So I asked, "When can I see you again, Y/N?"

"I don't know. We probably won't be seeing much of each other after you break things off with Caroline, but I'm also friends with Elena, and since she and Stefan are together now, you'll probably see me around," she answered. "I hope so," I replied as I watched her walk away.

I happily went back inside, thinking about Y/N for the next few hours, but then I realized the time. It was six o'clock, and I had told Caroline I would come over to her house at six-thirty.

I sighed as I rubbed my hand over my face before getting into my car and starting to drive to Caroline's house. When I got there, I reluctantly knocked on her door, and she greeted me with a warm smile, so I attempted to wear a fake one. She grabbed my hand and pulled me up to her room.

"Hey boyfriend," she told me, kissing me. I pulled away though and looked into her eyes. "What's wrong?" she asked me. "We can't see each other anymore, Caroline," I told her. "What? No! We can work this out Damon, whatever it is," she replied, and I shook my head no. "I'm sorry Caroline, I just don't have feelings for you anymore," I replied.

"Damon please, I really like you," she told me as a tear ran down her cheek. "I'm sorry Caroline. It's over," I told her, before leaving her house. I felt a little bad for hurting her, but I was never looking for a relationship with her. I wasn't looking for a relationship with anyone, except Katherine. Who knew Y/N could change that.
