Chapter Twenty-Nine
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Justin's POV
I wake up early the next morning. I yawn softly and turn my head to the side to see my arm wrapped tightly around Selena with my body spooning her. Leaving a soft kiss on her cheek, I slowly unwrap my arm from around her and climb out of bed.
I head towards the bathroom when I hear Selena shifting on the bed. I look back at the bed to see that she's still asleep and now sleeping in a different position with my pillow held tightly in her arms with her face buried into it. Smiling, I go into the bathroom and clean myself up a little.
Today was going to be nothing but me trying to think of a plan that will help keep Selena safe. Not only do I have to worry about her safety, but now my parents safety as well. I knew coming here would put my parents into danger as well because if Liam finds out where I am, he won't hesitate to kill one of my parents. In fact, he won't even think twice about killing the first person he finds or gets in his way. But I can promise this right now, I'm not going to let anyone get hurt. I'll be the one to put a bullet through Liam's chest before he even thinks about hurting my parents, or Selena.
I walk out of the bathroom – taking a quick glance at Selena to see her still cuddling with my pillow – before I walk out of the bedroom. I walk quietly down to the end of the hallway and step foot into Jeremy's bedroom.
"Jeremy," I whisper, shaking his shoulder a little.
He stirs a little and slowly flutters his eyes open, his eyebrows furrowing together once his eyes land on me. "What is it, Jason?" Jeremy hisses, his voice groggly.
"Get up." I snap, my tone sharper than intended, but it pisses me off every time he calls me by my real name. "You're coming with me to help take care of something."
"If you're going to go kill another innocent person, forget it. I'm not going." he says, turning in the bed to where his back is turned towards me.
"You're coming whether you like it or not," I grab the bed covers and yank them off of him making the cold air hit him causing goosebumps to become visible all over his body. "And I'm not killing anyone."
He gives me a glare as he sits up in the bed. "Then what exactly are you doing and why do you need my help?"
"I need to get rid of my van. The cameras at the hospital most likely got a picture of my license plate, and if they're able to track down the van they'll find me." I explain.
"Okay...how are we going to get rid of the van? Just drop it off somewhere?" he asks, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
"I'm not sure just yet. But, I need you to drive your car and follow me so I have a ride back." I look over my shoulder and check the hallway to make sure Selena hasn't woken up yet. "Hurry up and get ready, okay?"
"What's the rush?" Jeremy asks after a yawn.
"The police are probably already on the search for the van and I would like to leave the house before Selena wakes up or else she'll want to come along. If anything goes wrong, I don't want her to get hurt." I talk quickly, but softly.
"Okay, okay. I'll get ready then we'll go, alright?" he says, slowly standing to his feet and walking into the bathroom.
➰
I turn down a gravel road and check in my review mirror to make sure that Jeremy is still following behind me.
We've been driving the past hour and half as I've been trying to think of where to ditch this van. It has to be a place where no one, or the police, will ever find it. So I can't exactly just leave it out in the middle of nowhere.
I continuing driving the road when something catches my eyes. I turn my head and look out the window to the left to see a fairly large lake. Then that's when my idea comes into mind.
I drive off the gravel road onto the tall, thick grass. Jeremy is probably wondering where the hell I'm going, but nonetheless continues to follow me.
When I'm a good twenty yards away from the lake, I being the van to a stop and put it in park. Jeremy parks his car beside the van then steps out of the car as I do the same.
"What are we doing?" Jeremy asks, walking around his car to where he's now standing in front of me.
"I figured out a place where the van won't ever be found." I reply, stuffing my hands into my front pocket.
Jeremy looks out at the lake then looks back at me with and laughs. "Am I thinking what you're thinking?" he asks.
"If you thinking about sinking my van into that lake, then yes. You are." I say.
"Are you serious? Someone could easily see us!" he says, his voice lowering as if there is somebody watching us.
I shake my head. "Look around. As to what it looks like, there's nobody within a hundred yard radius of this lake. Plus, we're surrounded by woods. Nobody is going to see us." I explain.
Seeing Jeremy being so alert about this makes me think about me when I younger. When I started robbing banks and setting off those bombs - which I regret doing all of that - I was always scared that somebody would see me and that I'd get caught. After the first few times though and I got an idea as to what I was doing, the police catching me in the crime never scared me anymore. I just did it without giving a fuck because I knew I was too skillful to let the police even get close to putting me in handcuffs. And I still am.
"But how are we going to get in the lake?" Jeremy asks, checking around us to make sure nobody is around. He's paranoid now.
I look out at the lake and bite my lip. How are we going to do this? Maybe I didn't think this all the way through. I scratch my chin as I look down at the ground and that's when my eyes land on a large rock. I raise an eyebrow.
"Here," I say, leaning down to pick up the large then handing it over to Jeremy. "Hold that for a minute."
I slide the van door open and get climb inside. I gotta make sure there isn't anything in here that I'll desperately need before this van vanishes into the lake.
"What is the point of me holding this rock for?" Jeremy asks, groaning a little at the heavy weight of the rock.
"You'll see." I reply.
I find a few packages of unopened bullets in the back and stuff them into my coat pockets. Those will be useful for when I use them to fire them off right at Liam's chest. The thought of him just makes my blood boil. I take a deep breath to calm myself then climb out of the van.
"What made you come to us for your help?" Jeremy blurts out.
"What?" I ask, slightly confused by his question.
"Your mother and I. Why'd you come to us for help?" he questions.
I run a hand through my hair. "You guys were the last option I had left in any hopes of keeping Selena safe." I say. "But let's make this clear," my voice lowers and is filled with venom, "I'm still fucking pissed at you two for kicking me out and don't even think that I want to be called your guy's son again, cause I don't."
"We told you we weren't going to a have criminal living under our roof." he says, putting emphasis on the word criminal.
"I had nowhere to live! I starved for a week and if it wasn't for Alfredo and Ryan finding me out on the streets when they did, I probably wouldn't be here right now." My nostrils are flaring in anger with my blood rising again and my heart quickening. "Not that my own parents would have cared."
"Is that what this is about? Do you think that we don't care about you, Ja-Justin?" Jeremy asks, and I mentally thank him for not calling me Jason.
"That's what it looks and feels like." I reply, taking the large rock from his hands. "But I don't care. I've been over the fact for years now that my parents don't care about me. Besides," I open the driver's car door and set the rock on the seat, "I've got somebody else that I know cares about me."
"Oh, really? And who's that?" he asks. Although my back is turned to him, I can feel his eyes burning into my back.
"Selena." I say.
I hear him chuckle. "You don't think for a moment that she won't leave your ass?" he says.
"No, and that's because I know she won't." I turn around and face him to see his arms now crossed against his chest. "She knows what I do and who I am. Hell, she saw for herself, in person, what I did back at that hospital. If she hasn't left me yet, I know she's not leaving me anytime soon. So I'm not worried."
"You say that now, but one day, realization is going to finally hit her and her eyes will open. She'll leave you, and let's just say I'll be the one who told you so while you're ass is crying over her." Jeremy says, his voice filled with hatred.
I feel my hands tighten into fists by my sides. "Fuck you!" I shout.
From that point on, everything happens in a blur due to the anger that rushes throughout my body.
I put the keys back into the ignition and start the van. I hold the rock in one arm and with my other arm I position the steering wheel to where the van will drive off straight into the lake. Once it's positioned correctly, I reach for the handle to put the van in drive. In a swift movement, I drop the rock down on the gas pedal and the van jolts forward causing me to take multiple steps backwards. I watch as the van speeds off into the lake before slowing down as the water slowly starts to engulf it under.
At least now I have one of my problems taken care of.
Without saying a word, I brush past my dad. Purposely shoulder checking him before climbing into the passenger seat of his car.
I wasn't planning on saying a word to him the whole car ride back to the house. And hopefully, if I turn the radio up loud, I'll be able to even forget about his existence.
All I really wanted right now was to be with Selena. I wanted to just be in presence. To see her smile or just that sparkle that she always has in her eyes. Just thinking of her was calming me down and suddenly making me forget about what had just happened between Jeremy and I.
But that doesn't change the fact there this a slight pain in my chest from where his words have caused damage. I can't help but admit to myself that what he was saying, could be true. Well, is true.
And I hate the fact that he's right.
