Chapter Fifteen

Chapter Fifteen

[Selena's POV]

"Justin! Where are you?" I call out as I search the house for him, my legs about to give out on me because of how badly they're shaking.

I'm terrified.

"Justin?!" His name fills the empty house over and over again with the same response coming back; nothing.

I turn the corner in the house and stop dead in my tracks with a gasp escaping my lips. I thought my heart beat was beating rapidly before, but now my heart was beating so fast I thought it was going to burst out of my chest. I back up, stumbling on my own two feet, as I keep my eyes on the man who stands before me.

"What's wrong, Selena?" Liam asks, a devil smirk plastered across his face.

"What do you want from me?" I stutter my words and they come out jumbled together. Liam takes a few steps towards me, closing the gap that is in between us. My feet quickly move backwards and my back hits the wall. "Stay back!"

A deep chuckle leaves Liam's lips. "Or what? You're not going to do shit, you and I both know that."

"Justin!" Liam laughs as I call out for Justin's help once more.

"Do you really think he would actually save you?" Liam asks, humor in his voice because clearly he thinks this is funny. "You don't mean shit to him. He was never going to protect you." His words were like knifes stabbing me in the chest. "I thought you were smarter than that, Selena, than to rely on some kid to protect you. But I guess I was wrong."

I helplessly watch Liam close the gap that was once between us. Instead of trying to fight myself away from him, I stand there and let him drag me outside the house to his car.

"You promised that you'd always protect me," I say to myself with a tear slipping down my cheek.

I can't believe I trusted him.

I shoot my eyes open and sit up quickly in the bed. I look around at my surroundings and realize I'm still in my bedroom. My fingers run through my hair as my chest heaves up and down, my breathing heavily, and my body is shaking with my heart pounding.

"It was just a dream," I say to myself to try and calm myself down. "Only a dream."

I flench when I feel Justin's hand on my back. He rubs my back gently as I look down at him.

"What's wrong?" Justin asks. He's half asleep, barely having his eyes open.

"Nothing, it was just a bad dream." I say, taking in a breath. "I didn't mean to wake you."

"Come here," Justin holds his arm out, gesturing for me to lay back down next to him.

I lay back down in the bed with my back towards Justin and he spoons me. The memory of the dream fades from my mind almost instantly. Justin holds me close next to him, his arm wrapped tightly around me. I feel his lips press against the back of my shoulder.

"What was the dream about?" he asks, his voice raspy.

"Liam," His name escapes my lips as a whisper and I don't even think Justin heard me. "And you."

I feel Justin's body tense when I say that the dream was about him as well. "What happened?"

"Liam was in my house and I tired calling out for you, but you didn't come. Then Liam was telling me how you never planned on protecting me and that's when the dream ended." I say, not giving all the details because I didn't want to think about it or have to relive what happened.

"Don't let that dream scare you." Justin says, his voice stern.

"It doesn't." I lie. Of course the dream scares me. And I can't help but have this weird vibe that maybe this dream was trying to tell me something. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

"Go back to sleep, it's alright." Justin says after a few moments of silence had fallen upon us.

"I'm scared I'll have another dream like that," I admit.

Justin surprises me when he grabs my hand and holds it in his, our fingers intertwining together. He places a kiss on my cheek and brushes his thumb back and forth against my hand.

"I've got you," he says.

I gently squeeze Justin's hand. "Thank you."

"When I promised to protect you, I meant I would protect you from anything. Including when you have bad dreams. I won't let anything happen to you, Sel." Justin's voice fills my bedroom after a long while of silence between us.

A smile forms across my face and I can't help but repeat his words over and over again until I have drifted back off to sleep.

I wake up a few hours later.

Justin still holds my hand in his with a strong grip. I find myself smiling at our intertwined fingers and my eyes travel up to his face. His lips are slightly parted with a light snore occasionally escaping past them. His hair is sticking up in different directions, but somehow it still manages to look perfect.

I slowly untangle my fingers from his and climb out of bed. I head downstairs and into the kitchen. Grabbing a random box of cereal from the cabinet along with a bowl and the carton of milk from the fridge, I sit down at the table. My stomach is growling like I haven't ate in days.

I'm about to fix my cereal when the doorbell goes off and there's multiple loud bangs on the door.

I feel my heart beat quicken.

What if it's Liam?

I make my way over to the door and take a peek outside the window to see who it is. I feel myself relax when I see it's only Nick.

What is he doing here?

I unlock the door and open it. Nick's eyes meet mine and they're dark. They usually have a light shade of color to them maybe even a sparkle in them. And I know immediately something is wrong.

"What's wro-" I get cut off by Nick's hand grabbing my wrist as he barges his way into the house.

"I need you to see something." Nick says, pulling me into the living room.

When we reach the living room Nick lets go of my wrist and makes his way over to the television. He grabs the remote and turns television on, quickly changing the channel to the news.

"Nick, what is this all abo-" I get cut off again.

"Look!" Nick points his finger at the television screen with his eyes locked on me, fire now burning in his eyes. I look at the television and see a breaking news broadcast.

"Yesterday, John Davis was found murdered in his own house at around seven o'clock last night," the newscast lady says into the camera. "He was shot right through the heart, killed instantly. We've seen sights like these for the past couple of months and police are saying they have an idea on who the murder is."

A photo of young boy pops up on the right side of the television screen. The young boy has long brown locks that lay perfectly on top of his head with dark brown eyes. The newscaster is saying he's sixteen, but he looks more like kid than a teenager. I stare at the photo of the boy until realization hits me. I've seen those eyes and those features before.

Oh my god.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" I snap my head behind me and see Justin standing in the living room staring down Nick.

"Showing Selena who you really are, Jason." Nicks hisses, a smirk on his face and a raised eyebrow.

"What the fuck did you just call me?" Justin shouts, his fists tightened into fits and his jaw clenched as he steps towards Nick.

"You heard me, murderer!" Nick yells.

Justin looks at me. There's fear in his eyes mixed with anger. And just like Nick's, his eyes are dark.

"Selena, I-" I cut him off quickly.

"Who the fuck are you?" I shout, but my voice is shaky and I can feel the tears starting to build up in the corner of my eyes.

Justin has his hands stuffed deep into his front jean pockets with his head hanging low.

"Tell me!" I find myself yelling at him when he doesn't say anything.

Justin looks up at me, his eyes meeting mine.

"I'm Jason McCann."
