Prologue
The room was bathed in dim light, shadows dancing across the walls as Kim Taehyung stood by the window, his gaze cold and distant. Behind him, Kim Miso lay in their bed, her heart pounding from the intensity of their shared moment. Their marriage had been a transaction, an arrangement sealed by power and ambition, but tonight had been different—tonight, there had been an undeniable heat between them, a pull neither of them could resist.
Taehyung turned, his dark eyes sweeping over her. There was something unfamiliar in the way he looked at her now, as if he was trying to decipher the woman who had just shared his bed. Miso felt her chest tighten, a wave of anxiety washing over her. It was happening—the fear, the stress. She tried to control it, to keep herself grounded in the present, but her mind was slipping, retreating to the safety of her little space.
She blinked, her fingers curling into the soft blankets, and just like that, she was no longer the fierce, confident woman Taehyung had known. Her demeanor changed instantly—her eyes wide with childlike wonder, her voice soft and innocent. Her once fiery gaze softened, her body curling up under the blanket. The confident woman Taehyung had married disappeared, leaving behind a wide-eyed, childlike girl.
Miso sat up slowly, pulling the blanket to her chest, her fingers trembling. Her once bold, fiery gaze had softened into something innocent and fragile. “Daddy... why am I naked?” Her voice was soft, childlike, her wide eyes staring up at him with confusion. “Are we gonna take a bath?”
Taehyung's brow furrowed, his lips pressing into a thin line. "What?" His voice was sharp, disbelief evident.
Miso blinked, pouting as she glanced around the room nervously. “It’s too dark. Can we keep the lights on, Daddy? I don’t like the dark... it’s scary.”
Taehyung’s jaw clenched, irritation rising. He thought she was playing some kind of game, like those clingy women who acted innocent to win his attention. "Don’t start with this. After all that, now you’re acting like one of them? Like some clingy girl who can’t let go?” His voice was cold, harsh.
Miso’s lower lip trembled, her eyes filling with tears. “I’m not being bad, Daddy... I’m sorry,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “Did I do something wrong? Why are you mad? Are we not gonna play anymore?”
Taehyung’s anger faltered for a moment as he watched her, confusion washing over him. Her tears were real, her fear genuine. “What... what are you talking about?” His tone softened, but the frustration still lingered, unable to shake the feeling that she was toying with him.
Miso sniffled, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. “Did I make you mad because I don’t wanna be in the dark? Are you gonna leave me here alone?” Her voice quivered, sounding so small, so vulnerable, and completely at odds with the bold woman he had married. “I just want to be good, Daddy. I promise I’ll be good.”
Taehyung stared at her, completely thrown off balance. The Miso he knew—sharp, sassy, and unafraid—was gone. This wasn’t an act, but it made no sense. How could someone so strong crumble into a childlike state so suddenly?
His confusion deepened, his frustration battling with an unfamiliar sense of helplessness. He had no idea what to do with this version of Miso—this fragile girl who clung to him for comfort. For the first time in his life, Kim Taehyung, the most powerful mafia king, felt powerless.
“What is this?” he asked again, more to himself than her, unable to mask the unease rising in his chest.
Miso whimpered, her voice soft and broken. “Please don’t leave me in the dark, Daddy... I don’t like being scared.”
Taehyung, for the first time in his life, felt utterly powerless. This wasn’t a battle he could fight with strength or control. The woman who was supposed to help him rule an empire had slipped away, leaving him face-to-face with a part of her he had never known existed.
