November 2022 - AWFrasier
Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author, AWFrasier, who penned the story, Petty Little Monsters.
Dark Fantasy Team: What was your inspiration for this story?
AWFrasier: I've always loved monsters and stories about monsters. Especially werewolves, vampires, witches and banshees. So while going through a bit of a rough patch with writing, I decided to just go wild and write a story with ALL of the monsters and see where it took me. And that's how Petty Little Monsters was born.
DF: How did you come up with the title for your story?
A: I brainstormed it a bunch with friends. I threw out the comp-titles (Pretty Little Liars meets Teen Wolf and Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and together we came up with this. Originally it was titled "Through Fangs and Claws".
DF: If you could meet the character(s) that you've created, what would you say to them?
A: "I'm sorry! But you've got to suffer so the readers can be entertained. Please don't kill me."
DF: Do you share your writing with friends and/or family outside of Wattpad?
A: Nope. None of them are Fantasy readers, and most of my older family members don't know English either.
DF: What genre do you think is the easiest to write?
A: Dark Fantasy. Been writing it since I was a kid and it's like second nature. Even when I try to write something that isn't dark, it uhhhh... Turns real dark, real fast.
DF: Is there another story in the works that you would like to share with the readers?
A: Feral is always close to my heart. It's about shifters as well, has a big focus on mental health and institutionalisation, trying to deal with rage and finding support through all of the struggles, finding someone who silences the noise.
But generally, if you like queer Dark Fantasy stories... That's my whole catalogue.
DF: What is your favorite quote?
A: Take no prisoners.
DF: What is your typical writing space like? What do you usually need to stay focused?
A: I'm usually slung in my sofa with something running on the telly. If I wanna stay 100% focused, like during a sprint, I'll put on big headphones, turn the volume to 100 and blast the live album from Daft Punk. Can't explain why it works, but it just does. And I always end up banging out a tonne of words.
DF: What was one thing that you edited out of your story? Why?
A: I actually haven't edited anything OUT of the story - I'm a complete under-writer so after finishing the first draft I usually add at least 5k words. And as a chaotic pantser, I don't really plan anything that was dropped either.
DF: What are your future plans with writing? Whether be it in or out Wattpad?
A: Right now I'm mostly focusing on just writing. I've been through a really big slump that made writing a chore, and right now it doesn't feel like that anymore, so I wanna stay focused on keeping it fun.
I wouldn't say no to any studio deals or if Wattpad Books came knocking though! I'd also love getting more stories in Paid and on YONDER.
Thank you so much, AWFrasier, for being with us and agreeing to our interview. Check out their work, Petty Little Monsters, to support our author!
