November 2021 - xMishx

Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author xMishx, who penned the story, The Woman in the Lake.

Dark Fantasy Team: What was your inspiration for this story?

xMishx: The inspiration for the story came from the two words in the prompt, witch and crimes. It developed from there, becoming a story about a woman died without knowing her crime, how much emotion could come from the event and what she could do in an act of revenge.

DF: How did you come up with the title for your story?

X: I'd thought of a few different options but nothing really seemed to fit. While I was doing mockups for the cover, I toyed with a few different choices but decided on this. It's simple and obvious but I liked it so I stuck with it.

DF: If you could meet the character(s) that you've created, what would you say to them?

X: To Winnie, sorry that you suffered at the hands of scared and ignorant villagers and to Maddison, make good on your promise to Winnie. Otherwise, she might return to haunt you!

DF: Do you share your writing with friends and/or family outside of Wattpad?

X: I've told a few people. My mother has read a few of my books. She's an avid reader and loved them. My brother is always offering crazy ideas for stories.

DF: What genre do you think is the easiest to write?

X: For me, it's paranormal romance. The genre that I love to read is the easiest because I know it so well. Everyone will be different and there's no one size fits all.

DF: Is there another story in the works that you would like to share with the readers?

X: I am writing a story as a part of NaNoWriMo that will be coming to Wattpad. Hopefully the first draft will be done during November, then onto revision drafts and editing in the months after. Fingers crossed for early in the new year for the release! My readers will know of my love of vampires so it's only natural that they are a part of the story! It's set in a world that is a little out of the ordinary for me.

DF: What is your favorite quote?

X: "Rule one, you have to write. If you don't write, nothing will happen." Neil Gaiman

DF: What is your typical writing space like? What do you usually need to stay focused?

X: I have a desk, it's large and it's cluttered haha. For me to focus, the internet needs to be taken away from me but research is a part of the process so it's an evil and distracting necessity.

DF: What was one thing that you edited out of your story? Why?

X: Maddison had a friend. They went to the lake together and she helped Maddison figure out how to stop the strange things happening. I removed the friend and the parts where she helped because of the word count cap and it seemed unnecessary anyway.

DF: What are your future plans with writing? Whether be it in or out Wattpad?

X: My future plans will always include writing. There is always a story rattling around in my head so I think that I would struggle if I didn't have this outlet. Winning the Wattys would be pretty awesome! This year was the first time that I've entered and I've enjoyed the process.

Thank you so much, xMishx, for being with us and agreeing to our interview. Check out the story, The Woman in the Lake, to support our author!
