November 2021 - Mystic_Whisperer

Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author Mystic_Whisperer, who penned the story, Rose.

Dark Fantasy Team: What was your inspiration for this story?

Mystic_Whisperer: It was actually a dream I had months ago! My dream was about a mysterious town where the folks of the town were hiding something from me. That dream intrigued me when I woke up and I noted it down in my notebook. After a few days of [procrastinating], I decided to write a novel based on it and publish it on Wattpad!

DF: How did you come up with the title for your story?

M: I named my book after my protagonist. Rose is a mysterious girl and she may look like a beautiful flower at first but if you come near her, you will get pricked. [The] town hid a secret but so did my protagonist and her character fit so well with the name that I decided to title my story after her because the story is about her and it also foreshadows many events later in the story.

DF: If you could meet the character(s) that you've created, what would you say to them?

M: Meeting my characters is like a dream to me. I would be delighted to meet them but mostly I would be freaking out in the inside. First, I would definitely cry and say how surreal this moment is [and] then I would probably ask them how it feels to live as a character in a story and how they feel about me. Knowing it's me who controls their fate in the world I created.

DF: Do you share your writing with friends and/or family outside of Wattpad?

M: Yes! I am part of the writing and book community in Instagram and I have many friends who are Wattpad authors or just authors in general! They are all very sweet and are always willing to read my book to support or spot out errors so I could fix them. But, it's mostly the reviewers and members of Wattpad who I share my writing with because I think we have a lot in common and being in the same platform makes it easier for us to communicate and understand.

DF: What genre do you think is the easiest to write?

M: [I] think the easiest genre to write is fanfiction. Mostly because you already have a proper [worldbuilding] and characters to continue with. I think it's a great way to practice writing for beginners and learn more about the craft of writing.

DF: Is there another story in the works that you would like to share with the readers?

M: Yes! I have two [in fact]. One is tales of horror, which is a collection of short horror stories and The Hidden Vampire. The Hidden Vampire takes place in the same world as Rose but I wouldn't consider it as a sequel because [it] takes place in the past and the protagonist of Rose is not part of the story. Nonetheless, if you are interested in stories with dark fantasy, I would recommend checking them out!

DF: What is your favorite quote?

M: "You could rattle the stars, you could do anything if you only dared." This quote is from the Throne of Glass series and it reflects a lot on your potential and it really inspired me to keep going and not question yourself and your potential.

DF: What is your typical writing space like? What do you usually need to stay focused?

M: My typical writing place is my room. I usually get distracted quite often so I often write with my phone switched off and in my study table with the curtains open. I also cannot write without my writing playlist. It has a lot of songs I selected which are very similar to my book theme and without it, I cannot delve into the world of Rose.

DF: What was one thing that you edited out of your story? Why?

M: I cut out almost the entire last half of my story because I felt that it was not going according to how I thought it would and it also just didn't match what I wanted my readers to remember about Rose. I believe that happened because I decided to start [a] pantser but in the end I just learned it didn't suit me, my story, or the genre I write in. Planning out your story is essential for me.

DF: What are your future plans with writing? Whether be it in or out Wattpad?

M: So far I'm planning to continue writing in Wattpad. The community is awesome and I think Wattpad gave me a chance to find my love for story writing. Maybe one day I might self-publish my story but, for now, I just want to continue writing on Wattpad and explore the craft of story writing more.

Thank you so much, Mystic_Whisperer, for being with us and agreeing to our interview. Check out the story, Rose, to support our author!
